wrecked Tesla we've seen. According to
Fortune, ousted co-founder Martin Eberhard suffered further distress when his Tesla rear-ended a truck en route for delivery to Eberhard's home. While the cause of the new accident isn't official, a few eye-witnesses said that Tesla #6 -- driven and owned by an unidentified man -- had gone "unnoticed" as it went "bumper-to-bumper between the cars." Interestingly enough, the
Tesla's air-bags never deployed. One thing seems obvious: we expect to see more crashes from the silent, ultra-low-profile Tesla street-racer as it attempts to compete for space on roads dominated by SUVs, Hummers, and Testosterone.

I love hearing the increasingly absurd justifications rednecks have for driving large trucks. It comes out in every car thread, and they just don't get how stupid they look.. nor how tortured their explanations are of how safe their family is in the Excursion instead of a tin can.
You couldn't pay me to drive some death trap of an SUV with no brakes, no acceleration, and a center of gravity somewhere on Mars. Primitive garbage -- the 1960s called, they want their technology back.
I don't exactly get great mileage, but every time I see a lifted truck with mud tires howling down the road I laugh to myself and almost hope gas prices keep going up.

The airbag would have only hurt the driver more in this circumstance since that old Mercedes rode UP the hood. (There was a wide enough time gap to go from 30-0.)
The air bags not going off isn't that much of a surprise. If you look at the damage, it is to the hood, not the bumper. Normally the air bag sensors are in the bumper, and if that escapes damage, they don't deploy.
I had the same thing happen to me in a recent accident. Both me and the car ahead of me were hard on the brakes. This caused the front end of my car to dip down, and the rear end of his car to rise up. So his bumper went through my grill, missing my bumper and not activating the airbags.
I'd be kinda worried that the Tesla slid under the Mercedes.
I mean... bumpers are supposed to hit... bumper-to-bumper. Not bumper-to-windshield.
If it were any faster the Mercedes would be sitting on top of the Tesla.
Looks like the Tesla needs to go back to the drawing board.
Don't be an idiot...I had a buddy that ran into and under a Honda CRX once in his 911. The CRX ended up on top of his car. Great picture.

My shop is two blocks from Tesla and I see those guys drive like jerks all the time. They pass people in the carpool lanes with only one person in the car, they drive in and out of traffic like teenagers with a new license, they don't signal, and of course, you can't hear the car coming.
Aren't electric cars exempt from having multiple passengers? I know motorcycles can drive in the carpool lanes with only the rider.
As someone who was recently in a very similar accident (low sports car rear ended and pushed into the guy in front) I sympathize for this guy. His car is probably rapidly becoming the least of his concerns because I'm sure the whiplash is setting in and he is in a world of hurt.
