GamePark's GP3X leaked in spy shots, called the 'Wiz'
Apparently, a leaked shot of GamePark's next iteration of the GP2X -- the GP3X (not to be confused with the Pandora project) -- has gone and gotten itself leaked onto the interblogs. According to a post on GP2X News, the new system (which is being called the "Wiz") isn't set in stone, but will contain some form of a system-on-a-chip, and apparently will allow GP2X emulators to run after a bit of recompiling. There's not a whole lot of information available right now, but we'll keep you posted -- in the meantime, enjoy the photo.

The perspective in this photo makes me feel upside down.
NHAnimator @ Jul 30th 2008 12:11PM
...was just going to say that I felt nauseous.
giuliop @ Jul 30th 2008 12:34PM
I'll kill you, damned G-Man.
Matt @ Jul 30th 2008 1:49PM
Nevermind the gadget; I want to know where I can get me one of them gravity-defying tables!
Metkis @ Jul 30th 2008 2:37PM
@Matt:
Well Sharper Image carries... oh wait... nevermind.
d @ Jul 30th 2008 5:15PM
same
linuxamp @ Jul 31st 2008 12:30AM
Actually, the device comes with an anti-gravity feature that was obviously turned on when the picture was taken.
TMFAN @ Jul 30th 2008 12:11PM
Wow my first gen GP32 looks better than this crap. Why the hell are there two d-pads?
Speney G @ Jul 30th 2008 12:14PM
The Wiz will be accompanied by Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
Dillon @ Jul 30th 2008 12:14PM
This has got to be the first "spy shot" I've ever seen of a new gadget that wasn't all blurred and crap quality with a flying saucer in the background.
giuliop @ Jul 30th 2008 3:22PM
The least they could do is put an upside-down picture.
John H. @ Jul 30th 2008 12:21PM
maybe that's right side up and ur just upside down.
Smileypanda @ Jul 30th 2008 9:16PM
I know, the picture looks totally normal to me. Maybe you guys should check your screens. Or your eyes.
The Sniper @ Aug 2nd 2008 12:26PM
@Smileypanda
Oi! So you're an Aussie mate?
Forrest @ Jul 30th 2008 12:21PM
Do you have to play it on the ceiling?
andres @ Jul 30th 2008 1:09PM
i dont visit the ceiling ever since that cat moved in

why are there two d-pads?
Dillon @ Jul 30th 2008 12:32PM
Because d-pads are win.
Ryan Karolak @ Jul 30th 2008 12:58PM
The analog stick on the GP2X was horrible.
gm76 @ Jul 30th 2008 1:29PM
So we can play Robotron and Smash TV with great justice.
a ham sandwich @ Jul 30th 2008 12:32PM
o no not the wiz. the last time i heard somebody mention "the wiz" it was a miserable store that was bought by cablevision and lasted all of a couple years. ::shudder::
Lowest Ranked @ Jul 30th 2008 12:47PM
Strange. Last time I heard someone mentioned the 'wiz' they disappeared for about 2 minutes and returned complaining about there not being any soap.
a ham sandwich @ Jul 30th 2008 12:49PM
lol. nice.
bara @ Jul 30th 2008 12:38PM
super fake spyshot.
that plug in the bottom is a verizon charger usually for samsung or lg phones.
and you can obviously see the photoshopping. which is why its at that angle, so your focused on how nauseous it makes you instead.
unless... im being an idiot and this is meant to be fake?
John H. @ Jul 30th 2008 12:47PM
ur just being an idiot.
sockatume @ Jul 30th 2008 1:22PM
Actually those connectors aren't unique to Verizon (funnily enough, a US phone company doesn't determine what connectors are used by Korean multinational phone manufacturers). In fact they're not even unique to phones. The iRiver Clix and a whole clutch of mobile phones share a particular plug design (looks a lot like that, might not be the same) which is designed to supply power, data, and AV in/out, the actual functions used varying according to device (the phone data cable omits the AV connection). It had a microcontroller built into the plug which made hacking your own difficult but it's long since been identified. I dare say it's ideal for this sort of project.
fishbong @ Jul 30th 2008 2:40PM
For me, the Plug looks exactly like the TV out of my GP2X. If you believe it is shoppen, then fine, but the plug certainly is no reason for scepticism.
754Boy @ Jul 30th 2008 3:09PM
I agree....my LG phone charger looks exactly like that. Plus this thing looks like a step BACKWARDS in terms of GP hardware :(
Metkis @ Jul 30th 2008 8:02PM

It does look exactly the same, which, even though the connector style is common, isn't a good sign. Besides, the connector isn't rotated correctly to fit into a port if it were straight. It looks to me like it's kinda fake, so I'm not going to go ahead and jump on it. I think it's a good thing, because I believe it looks quite ugly.
Chip @ Jul 30th 2008 12:47PM
GPH has already requested the image be taken down from ZodTTD's blog ( http://www.zodttd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2823 - the original source) and the GP32X forums. I'm not sure what they were thinking with the 2nd d-pad instead of face buttons, but hopefully all the backlash will help them realize that it's a mistake.
Nate @ Jul 30th 2008 1:01PM
I don't think they care. If they did, there would be no such thing as Pandora.
Peter R @ Jul 30th 2008 1:11PM
I think they already had realised that it wasn't such a great idea.
twigeater @ Jul 30th 2008 12:59PM
the connector on the bottom is one from a telephone, its very similar looking to the EXT connector of the GP2X though and probably isnt for power....
it wouldnt suprise me if it has the same flaws as the gp2x as apparently it just uses an upgraded magiceyes SOC.
atomicthumbs @ Jul 30th 2008 1:06PM
Let them keep this name and control scheme. Less competition for the Pandora.
Josh L @ Jul 30th 2008 2:58PM
Since when is less competition bad?
chefgon_ign @ Jul 30th 2008 1:08PM
There is no way that this thing will make it to final production with 2 dpads and no face buttons. They know full well that people buy these things to play emulators on, they need a SNES-compliant control input.
That said, the only other thing I can gleam from this photo is that it features an internal rechargable battery. That is a major step in the right direction. Think they keep keep the touch screen?
bara @ Jul 30th 2008 2:23PM

It's Game Park Holdings - NOT Game Park. Two different companies.
kingu @ Aug 2nd 2008 3:07AM
Thats what i thought also. GG made the GP32, GPH made GP2X.
GP is no more btw.
efitz11 @ Jul 30th 2008 5:40PM
i'm the wiz and noobody beats me
ShadowKain @ Jul 30th 2008 8:20PM
Is this just a portable emulator?
Alex @ Jul 31st 2008 10:08AM
No, it's not just a portable emulator, it's an open games handheld, which means you can use it for way more than playing old games. The GP2X had a myriad of quality original titles, part of what makes it such a great system :-)
Janek @ Jul 31st 2008 2:29AM
wifi+BT+GPS on one chip.
USB Host for photo camera, keyboard, mouse
multitouch. nothing more.
Niz @ Jul 31st 2008 4:07AM
These things are really pointless at first you do think its cool but you end up not using it give it a week or a month, and then it gathers dust. It seems like a good idea but it has no place or time (I had a GP32 whatever). It might be just me.
Alex @ Jul 31st 2008 10:10AM
Perhaps you should think your purchases more careful, not everything is for everyone.
wootman @ Aug 2nd 2008 5:01AM
yeah, i think that might just be you.
gphfan @ Aug 8th 2008 3:34PM
Apparently, a badly PhotoShoped picture of GamePark's next iteration of the GP2X. (made for you by the confused Pandora project)
