Thermaltake's V1 CPU cooler sure is real purty
Usually the terms "enthusiast cooling equipment" and "sexy, sexy" don't go hand in hand, but Thermaltake has here an exception that proves the rule. This here V1 CPU, which retails for $60, can handle a nice assortment of Core 2 and Athlon processors, but we'd rather just set it up on a table somewhere and stare at the pretty lights. That's a red dot design award well earned.

Why do those things always happen exactly one week after I bought a zalman 9700 LED cpu cooler. And still haven't used it. Maybe I should RMA it :)
Well, considering you bought a better cooler, and this one has been out for months (or longer?) you're probably better off just keeping it.
the zalman will do a better job for your computer, unless you just drive around town with it roof down and the case off to pick up chicks. Wait, I think they both do that equally well.
I'd love to see a shot of this installed on a motherboard. Right now this thing looks to me like it's strapped to a motorbike from the size of it. It's a great looking thing though.

My GOD, man! Will I be able to even close the computer case over that thing?
Labia-ly delicious.
Seems Engadget is getting a little sloppy, swallowing PR emails like candy.
This has indeed been out (and in my PC) for about a year. It does look nice, and works well. But I'm not a fan of the blue LED fan. Throws the red and black theme of my case all out of whack...
Its little brother or sister:

There's definitely better products out there.... although the copper looks nice I must say.
Copper goes dull though, and polishing all these fins would require .. I don't know, a compulsive dedicated NASA engineer who's in love with you?
Nice until the dust demons settle in, blocks airflow, heats up, bakes in, as is with most fan heat sinks. Mmmhmm.
Yes, my Antec 900 is on the floor; It doubles as a nice air purifier.
Good God that thing is huge. What kind of case would it fit in?
whoa, trippy
I would have gotten this a long time ago if it had a 4-pin mobo connector.
This things daddy:

Thats pretty intense.
Pardon me, but hasn't this been on the market for sale for like 3 months now? And before that, wasn't there one just like it for the previous socket types? How is this news?
can't even fit the power supply in the case?

I've had this cooler on my MSI P3 Plat with Q6600 gaming PC since last August. I don't have anything bad to say about it. Highest my CPU has ever hit is 47c. That was on a stress test pushing all four cores, RAM and GPU to %100 for over 12 hours at 80f room temp.
Stopping the stress test, the CPU dropped to 32c in less than 15 minutes (I checked at 5, 10 and 15).
I've tried other coolers, even the best that Tomshardware had in their test and non of them came within 5c at load. I play a lot of games on my system and even with Crysis maxed out to a crawl, I never got above 44c.
Not to mention you can easily find this cooler for under $50us depending on the week.
Haven't cut myself. It's not THAT tall. In my case, the top of the V is about even with the HDD cage. About an inch from the side panel.
Also, my case (Antec P180) has a fan hole on the top towards the back. Because of this I have the V1's fan blowing towards that hole (top of case) not towards the back side as most people would mount it.
Interesting, probably not a good choice for cramped cases, prb best left for inverted cases.
I've got one of these on a stock clocked Q9300.
The fan is a bit noisy so I don't have it plugged in and its keeping the cpu below 30c(granted its not summer yet).
It fits easily into a CM690, but if haven't plugged everything else in before hand, you might lament the size of your flesh mittens!
Oh and this thing is well over a year old, how'd it make breaking news ?

There it is at actual size. Yeah, that's pretty big. Pardon the low quality, I didn't have a decent image of the product.
I have this fan in my computer.
It enables me to overclock my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz and stay under 50C(full load)
It was a real pain installing this thing getting a bunch of cuts on my hands.
I thought it was very interesting that they review this old fan...
From efficiency perspective I'd take a Thermalright over this any day, but I have to admit it looks nice, which has no meaning in cooling anyway and that neon fan in the middle is just something I'd drill through the second I got it.

I used this thing with a overclcoekd E4500 to 3.3GHZ playing crisis now and then gaming and the computer been on for a WHOLE 2 WEEKS!
and the highest i ever got on it was around 40-50ish .. this thing works like a charm :)

I've had the Socket 775 version since Aug 2007. It was at the local shop for at least 3 months before I bought one.
What? This cooler has been on the market for over a year now. I know because I bought one... about a year ago. It is a great performing cpu cooler, my e6550 is OCed to 3.1ghz and temps under full load are only mid-40ish (they would be lower but my case it pretty tight, and air flow just is not its strength). Definitely sexier than any zalman competition, and performs roughly the same if not better for the price.
