Xbox 360 Arcade dropping to $199 on September 7?
We've been hearing whispers that an Xbox 360 price cut is in the works, and now we're starting to see some evidence -- VGChartz scored this image of an unknown retailer's inventory system showing the 360 Arcade dropping to $199 on September 7th. There's no word on whether the rumored 60GB and Elite price cuts are coming as well, but they'd certainly be welcome -- and with Rock Band 2 scheduled to hit just a week later, we'd say next month is looking like a good one for Xbox fans.

Worked for Best Buy for 3 years, Circuit City for a year, and last but not least CompUSA for 3 years. CompUSA used IBM AS/400 & JDA, the screen shot lines up perfectly to JDA.
I called bed bath and beyond and linen's n things and neither of them are planning on a price drop for the xbox 360 on sept 7th. They do however have 600 thread count sheets and everything billy mays has sold on an infomercial at 20% off with a coupon.
About time sometime knew wtf they were looking at. Also, I especially like how the system still runs some kind of year 1999 hack, notice the date range for this price is from 2008 - 12/31/99 which is obviously used as "infinity" now.
I haven't seen an AS/400 in 10 years, but I recognized it the very second I saw it.
Finally, now there is a way to afford it, with my budget...
im confused why everyone thinks that the 120 gb 360 is going to $399, thats $200 more than the base unit at $199, the 120gb hd is only $169 alone which would be $369? that makes no sense expect larger price cuts on the elite too.
Well, the Elite has the black finish, the HDMI and component cable sets, as well as the digital audio cable adapter for those who have HDMI but want to run optical to their HT system, not to mention it also has an ethernet cable and the headset.
The Elite is worth every penny if you actually use your 360 has a home theater device as well as a gaming machine. As soon as Netflix shows up, it's gonna be awesome on my 360.
cool+1
Now I might just think about getting one of these. $200 is pretty darn cheap.
can you just use an external USB hard drive in place of the 360HD?
Nope.
These rumors must grind sales to a halt. Who would buy a 360 now when in a month you can get one cheaper?
You could just buy it within 30 days of the rumored price drop, and when the price does drop, go back to Best Buy, CC, etc. and get a price match.
If the price doesn't drop, return it and buy a new one somewhere else, keeping the 30 day window alive. Sure, its a sleazy thing to do, but at least you don't have to worry about potentially losing 100 dollars.
I'm not saying that the price drop isn't coming, I'm sure that it is. But, working in retail, usually a permanent price drop would be classified as a "perm". As you can see, the current "perm" is 279.99 and the next perm is 0.00 or not yet scheduled. The 199.99 is a "promo" or, in other words, a sale price. A "perm" would be the permanent markdown. At least that's how all retail system have been coded that I have seen. Sorry for all of the """"""""
Follow the Read link and skim through. The person who provided the image says that the store's system puts the price drop under the promo so they can put up the SALE! signs and attract customers in. Then after a week they put the new price as the Perm.
Is a rumor of a price drop really this big of news?
As for September 7th being the day, some retailers are already starting to cut prices on what will be gifts for the holidays. If your promo price drops to $200 (lose a bit of $$$ possibly?) you're banking on people buying other stuff to compensate the lose you may have.
If it's a real price drop, more power to them, and I've gotten a little bit more inclined to get a 360. If it's a promo of some electronics store, then that store's about to be swamped in sales. Either way, someone's rumor is about to get a lot of people antsy about a price drop. And if it doesn't happen someone at MS is gonna be blamed.
dang it, I said the lose you may have instead of the loss you may have. My bad with the typo.
that is not from Best Buy, thier system is called RSS and is way better than that POS
It is a compusa screen, probably from their online store now. It is the system they used for business orders in the stores when they were still around.
Does anyone know what store uses that type of terminal system for it's inventories?
(My guess is Circuit City)
Circuit City uses DPS, this is not DPS.
Fred Meyer.
It's Best Buy. I know someone who's worked there for 8 years who confirmed it.
Guys just buy it now at Target and when the price drop on September 7 just get a price adjust. Since Target has a 90 days return you can't go wrong with that. And yes I have tried this on games and other electronic items at Target.
Badass, I didn't know this. Definitely picking up a 360 Elite as soon as I get the money. Thanks for the tip!
99% Sure that's Sears, and I'm 100% sure that's not Circuit City's DPS screen.
Fun fact, there is actually 3 different Circuit City register systems, one for poor regions, one for ok ones, and the rich mofo's get those tablet PCs.
I on the other hand, have a clipboard.
Also, prove I have on it being Sears, I know that sometimes they use a register system similar to that, and that they have a 90 Day return policy on most stuff, so it becomes a 90 Day Low Price guarantee.
maybe I should work for some investigation team or something,
Um....that's....interesting???
some of you guys need your own blogs.
With wal-mart's upgrade cycle, i wouldn't doubt if this is where the screenshot originated from I work in a wal-mart DC and i've got to say that the terminal emulation window looks a lot like the 3270 one we use in our warehouse to connect to our AS 400.
IBM3270 FTW!!!!
"IBM3270 FTW!!!!"
you reeeeally should get out more
I just wish they would reduce the prices on their hard drives (more than 20) to something in line with actual hard drive prices. I'm not paying almost $200 for a 120 gig model. I'm running out of space.
It is a Wal-Mart screen...
That would be a Wal-Mart screen
oops posted twice, lol.
glad you find it amusing
Especially since the rest of us are just dying of laughter.
I want a more reliable and quieter piece of hardware even more than a cheaper model. Please come out with a hardware update and I will buy one.
That is a shot from Chris Hanson's computer. I used to be interested in 8 year olds.
..he uh takes it with him everywhere. Big ass CRT. so oldskool. Strong back that Hanson.
That screen could be a interface for anything from an AS/400 to a Z-series mainframe. One thing's for sure, though is that it's an IBM terminal for sure. The way interface software has gotten, however, it could be transacting with just about any kind of server imaginable.
Who cares where this is from, this is great news for hard up consumers!
An xbox arcade 360 for $199?? Wow thats going to eat into PS2 sales,
An Xbox Pro for $299?? Thats going to eat into PS3 sales
Sony will have to cut the PS2 price to $99 imo and cut the PS3 price to $349
Console Price wars! Happy Dayz!
I'm just impressed that whoever's screen this is, their shitty terminals go all the way to F20! I thought my F14 key was badass...
I guess this is the retail point-of-sale equivalent of a volume knob that goes to 11?
Where I work our POS systems go well beyond F20, probably up to F30 but require a key combo to reach such dizzying heights. Therefore, F24 would be ALT+F4 and F35 would be SHIFT+F5.
that screen is from the sony store
Not that it matters at this point but 50926251 would be the item number in WM's POS system. Also from what he has blacked out next to organization 01 is the number used by WM for general merchandise followed by 05- which would be the electronics dept number. I would know I worked there for 8 years ;)
Wow that would be awesome, Id buy one for that price.
Here's a screen shot of another store inventory screen showing the price drop...
http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xboxpricedroppd4.jpg
I think it looks like a PC Richard screen... archaic and ugly
Actually, this is a Fred Meyer inventory screen; I know because I used to work at the Fred Meyer where this picture was taken-- Newport, Oregon. This is not a rumor, it is very true...and Microsoft is not happy. The employee that took the picture posted it on their myspace and let everyone know, they were fired so quickly and quietly that nobody even realized they were gone the next day. Microsoft is threatening to file a lawsuit against Fred Meyer and pulling all of their inventory from the shelves if this litigation is not resolved immediately. I have very close friends and reliable sources that have verified the truth in this story.
