6-cell battery emerges for Acer Aspire One: $119.99 for a few more hours
We fully understand that time is money, but damn. With quite a few folks up in arms over the $50 to $100 price hike on the 6-cell MSI Wind over the standard 3-cell version, we can only imagine the outcries that will come after seeing this. CDW has a product page up that describes an Acer Li-ion 6-cell 5,200mAh battery that's designed to fit snugly within the $379.99 Acer Aspire One netbook. Let's see here -- a $119.99 battery for a $379.99 computer. Is that the absurdity alarm sounding, or are our ears still ringing from all the weekend revelry?

I'm loving how it recommends the laptop as an accessory to the battery.

My penis is an accessory to my balls. (accessory after the fact)

Expecting people to pay $119.99 for a battery on a $379.99 product is crazy. (congress should be notified, we need sanctions)

Its nothing personal, just good business.
Chris H @ Aug 4th 2008 7:54AM
I find it amusing that the "Recommended Accessory" is the Notebook itself...Just sayin is all
Hexxeh @ Aug 4th 2008 7:59AM
I suppose accessories are produced in vastly lesser quantities than the gadgets themselves and therefore cost more.
ShadowKain @ Aug 4th 2008 8:25AM
It's an extended battery you idiot, that is 1/3 of the price of the hardware. This isnt a "rate-plan-snatch-you-in-hook-you-by-the-balls-contract-for-2-years" cell phone gamble...wow.
neofolklore @ Aug 4th 2008 7:57AM
you can get a cell phone for free, but the replacement battery is $50. i fail to see the problem here.
Blade Genexis @ Aug 4th 2008 8:21AM
I believe you can only get the free replacement phone if you're paying the monthly warranty. So it kinda' adds up over time. Assuming, of course, your phone is going to die- which it will... eventually.

Engadget .. are you really becoming this thick?
Offcourse the battery is 100+. That MSI price was an 50 dollar UPGRADE. This is a standalone. Say an normal 3 cell battery costs about 50 ~ 60, add 50 on top of that.. 100+
Jeez .. do your math
ShadowKain @ Aug 4th 2008 8:26AM
Or realize that SOME people don't BUY the upgrade right away and WANT TO BUY the battery? Are you thick? XD...wow.
Ian @ Aug 4th 2008 8:30AM
I know i'll be buying the 6-cell upgrade for the Wind once its available. I already upgraded the memory and nic card (some people were reporting problems with the integrated nic and I just happened to have an Intel 3945ABG mini-pciE card here. I'm debating jumping to a 250gig drive I have sitting here as well. LOVE this thing.

I agree, this price seems like it is as has as usual but deffinately not outrageous. If I would like a 9 cell battery for my $1100 dell it would cost me $300. Maybe engadget can give away some laptop batteries since we all agree they are priced too high.
Mark @ Aug 4th 2008 8:42AM
CDW is always over priced so don't take it as the defacto price. CDW caters to companies IT departments who are usually stipend to one e-tailor for there computer needs. CDW has always provided a good name for the uninformed. Maybe they are just a lot better with bulk shipments or they smartly advertise in PC world/PC Magazine and whatever computer magazine most wannabee computer users read.

Dear Engadget Writers,
I know its not in your nature, but please do try and refrain from introducing your personal bias is an article while writing it and you will be able to eliminate half the negative comments the site gets. The other half of the negative comments being of course a potent blend of apple bias comments and crappy reply system comments.
Thanks
icepop4who @ Aug 4th 2008 11:14AM
i don't know about you, but this exactly the reason i read engadget. if i wanted "real" news i would have read arstechnica or some other boring site. you really have to be intelligent enough to see past all the "crap" to enjoy engadget.
anyway, if you just commenting to bash engadget, just don't read engadget. duh.
CosterMonger @ Aug 4th 2008 9:54PM
Dear Engadget,
it appears you can get rid of all the negative comments by getting rid of the comment system :)
type whatever witty things you want, that's why I visit this site, blow by blow news on things that shouldn't be news worthy, but have gadget junkies like me coming back for more.
- yeah batteries are expensive, but why?
- maybe they can ship a battery-less version for $50 less.
sonicwind @ Aug 4th 2008 9:09AM
yeah, stuff should be free, dammit.
icepop4who @ Aug 4th 2008 11:16AM
i don't care how much the laptop costs, but doesn't laptop battery comes around that range? laptop batteries usually cost $100 to $200 for a genuine original manufactured battery. for $119 more, i get two batteries, and that's nothing to sneeze at.
