Nissan ECO pedal promises to push back against aggressive drivers

While Nissan hasn't quite cut drivers out of the equation all together (yet), it is making some considerable progress in controlling just how they drive, including preventing folks from driving drunk and, now with its new ECO pedal, preventing people from driving inefficiently. To do that, the pedal simply pushes back against the driver's foot when it detects wasteful acceleration, which Nissan says could improve fuel efficiency by as much as five to ten percent. Of course, the system can be switched off, and it likely won't be making an appearance in all Nissan vehicles right off the bat, although the company says it'll be showing up in at least some of them as early as next year.

1st?
1st jackass is what I assume your referring to.
Fascists are always afraid of communists.
Wow, for once I dont hate you phanboy.
I drive a hybrid, in an way to lessen our 'addiction' to oil, I enjoy driving 600 miles on 16 gallons of gas.
I really like this feature.
600 miles = 965km
16 gallons = 60 litres
That's 0.062l per km. On my dads 1993 corolla I can do 0.055, by knowing how to use gears, and not waste on acceleration.
I'm not all this impressed by hybrid cars! :)
Reading these comments took me on a trip down Memory Lane. Ah, yes - The 3rd grade was a wonderful time.
wtf is skeet skeet juice? are you 83 years old and live in a cabin in montana surrounded by grenades and AK-47s? obvlious neo nazi jerkoff
@Flashpoint: "Would it not be easier to just have a presetable "DO NOT EXCEED LIMIT" so you could cap the car's speedometer at 55?"
No.
The system monitors a variety of factors, such as road grade, acceleration profiles, engine load, fuel and air mass flow rates, and all sorts of factors that are not linear with speed.
its a great idea, i hardly accelerate over 2,000 rpms and because of that my milage went from the low 10's to almost 20mpg, thats big on my truck.
its simple, your engine likes consistency, constantly giving it a lot of gas and then releasing is killing your milage, accelerating slow from a stop might piss off the person hind you but it is much better for your car in every possible aspect.
i accerlate slow but still speed when needed, if you watch the lights enough you know when its ganna turn red, why accelerate to the next red light?
What we really need is a gearshift that whacks slow drivers in the nuts when they sit in the passing lane.
We are not driver students, we know how to drive, Nis
No Thx to your ass-sistant.
Love the comments
i see according to Webxact that Nissan are now claiming it can save at least 10% on fuel costs!
now thats what a car really needs!
http://www.webxact.co.uk/2008/08/will-eco-pedal-change-your-driving.html
Imagine you are entering a highway, and you need to quickly accelerate because you see a very big truck coming, but the eco friendly pedal doesn't allow you to accelerate as much... What would you do?
The idea is pointless...
What about all those you need that extra response from the car?....
In those desperate times in need of acceleration to avoid a crash, why would this be a viable option? The pedal would push back, you wouldnt accelerate as needed, and inevitably, you would crash.
Just my 2c
