ZeeVee's localcasting ZvBox now shipping, available from more places
If our gallery of hands-on pictures from this morning were all you needed to pull the trigger on ZeeVee's ZvBox, well, we'd surmise that you have more money than sense. Regardless, if you've done your homework and feel confident that the localcasting box will make your life remarkably better, you can rest assured that units are shipping out now. Better still, those uncomfortable with Amazon for whatever reason can now secure the box from Best Buy, J&R, NewEgg, TigerDirect, and ZeeVee's own storefront. Unfortunately, the $499 price tag hasn't gotten any easier to swallow.

"Your computer and the entire Internet on all your HDTVs."
And I thought only Al Gore had rights to distribute the entire internet...
How many HDTVs do they think we have anyway?

but what does it actually DO? broadcast hdtv ota?. and is this supposed to work over your entire house/neighborhood? so if im watching porn, and my neighbors flip through the channels will they pull a wtf? and can i broadcast multiple "channels" so i can watch diff stuff on "all my hdtvs" at the same time?
adam @ Aug 5th 2008 12:19AM
so i actually googled it and read what it does. w00t.
so it puts it (not wirelessly) through your existing cable lines. it adds a channel where there isnt one, and essentially its a video out from your computer with some funky compression (prolly will affect video quality in some way).
doesn't look like multiple channels. so i cant watch from my room something different than my dad in his office. also, it looks like only one computer can give input, which i guess could be solved moderately easily with networking to access any vids etc from other computers.
and no neighbors running into what your watching. unless you live in a dorm. hmm... i wonder if this "localcasting" is what college campuses do to show their shotty channels.
peace yo

So anyone want to loan me $499?
KilgoreTrout @ Aug 4th 2008 6:15PM
It cost the same or maybe more than connecting a wifi equipped mini PC (maybe with a couple of RAIDed HDs) to your HDTVscreen, which , by the way would look better too
ds @ Aug 5th 2008 9:58AM
ha.. wait are you saying you only have 1 HDTV? Yeah this product isn't for you.

Does that picture give anyone else the feel of the Microsoft Zune? I mean that color scheme... a big Z? Or was it just me?

With Software live "TVersity" and hardware like Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and a mutlitude of Dlink and Linksys hardware already doing this and also adding much more functionality then just "wirelessly" broadcasting PC media to a TV... This is a horrible product and IMO not worth $500.00. This company will fail I guarantee it. One because other products out do what they do for much cheaper and better quality plus. Another Company will make another "single box" solution for a much cheaper price tag.

God i want this to sell but at $499 ... it wont.
Ryan @ Aug 4th 2008 7:58PM
The ability to display to multiple HDTVs isn't something they had to add, it comes with the coax cable and MPEG2 TS
Eric @ Aug 4th 2008 9:32PM
Wow, the modern equivalent of a VCR Rabbit.
ds @ Aug 5th 2008 10:01AM
Awesome.. So you just used your first ever engadget post to complain about a device that you clearly have no knowledge of. Why?
ds @ Aug 5th 2008 10:03AM
Above comment @SyNNeR6x3
Thanks engadget.
