There's
no doubt that both of HTC's
forthcoming handsets (yeah, the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro) are
coming to Sprint and Verizon. What we're still curious about, however, are the respective launch dates and the eventual names.
phoneArena has it that the Touch Diamond will go by HTC Victor on Sprint and HTC Diamond on Verizon, with the former packing a slightly speedier CPU, an aluminum frame, accelerometer, 4GB of internal memory and EV-DO Rev. A support. As for Verizon's, expect it to boast half the RAM (128MB), a wimpier CPU, microSD expansion slot and a stainless steel frame. Moving on, we're told that the Touch Pro will be rechristined HTC Herman for Sprint and HTC Raphael (nice to
re-meet you!) for The Network. Finally, we're clued in on a September 2nd release date for Sprint's Victor, while the Herman is expected a month later. As for Verizon? It'll probably be 30 or so days behind in both instances thanks to a presumed exclusivity agreement with its nemesis. Get all that?
I think it's fair. AT&T got the Current HTC Touch phones first. let the CDMA's get the goodness first this time around. AT&T will get it eventually. T-Mo is till around? :p
I Also hate the GSM Speaker interferance. My company phone is a Moto Razr but I never use it. I use my Sprint Touch and have my work mail forwarded to it.
sweet mother of crap, it's finally happening. You will be mine HTC Herman. 6 months from now, you WILL be mine.
Where is my GSM version for AT&T..... Screw the iPhone... I want a Touch Pro!
I don't really care for the name rechanges, but I really do care for these phones.
Looks like I'll be getting a Touch Pro (err...Herman) in October.
Can't wait for the greatest phone out there, bar none, come October time.
Android? Finally?
I've been using Verizon for 6 years now and I do agree that their cell phones suck, but their service is so good the subscribers just put up with it. I've had maybe one dropped signal and only found one place where i couldnt get a signal. I've used it in Cananda and Mexico when all friends with other carriers moaned at missing signals.
HTC on verizon was a big hope of mine, but not that i read this im starting to think about switching carriers. If the Touch Pro is bogged down and expensive, im going to be pissed.
This may very well be the first real iPhone competitor.

correction: It would have been the first iphone competitor, if the largest cell network didn't gimp the specs of it's version and just left it with the original.
HTC Victor WTF?? Why don't the just call it the HTC Dork or the HTC Geek. Funny how Sprint trys so hard to make one phone look sexy but shits on other ( and better) touch based phones.
AND WTF is with no expansion slot in the Sprint HTC Irwin. 4 gig just doesn't cut it and I don't want the extra width of the HTC Sherman. Come on Sprint I'm willing to spend the cash let us spend it. This thing woops the Iphone in every category except space.
wow i like how much love this thread has gotten already. To keep everyone updated, OUR SPRINT DATABASE SPREADSHEET shows the diamond to still show a 9/2 launch.
HTC Touch Diamond MP6950SP 9/2/2008 Touch
As far as the Herman, or touch pro, or w/e you want to call it, I see nothing as of quite yet, but i'll be sure to keep you guys updated :).
BTW FOR ALL AT&T CUSTOMERS LOOKING FOR THE TOUCH PRO GSM VERISON.........THE TOUCH PRO GSM VERSIONS ROM IS ALREADY LEAKED.......AND ITS BASICALLY A 99% CONFIRMATIOM THERE WILL BE A NA GSM VERISON.....
we just have to wait a little longer...so dont cry..just be happy that the gsm verison should prob be better than the crippled cmda verisons......i switched from verizon 3 years ago to grab the 8125 and i love my tilt...and now this is just another spectacular showing by verizon and their crap phones.....
The real question is Touch Pro or HTC/Sony Xperia 1........which one are you gunna get?
I would really have to play with both. I'm just not a big WinMo fan (That's what the Xperia will run, right?), but that's probably because I don't use it a lot.
I think the BIGGEST problem is that there are WAY too many badass phones to choose from these days!!!! There used to never be a selection like this for consumers to have phones that check email, web, weather, take pictures, play music/videos, etc.
At least regardless of what network you're on, there's bound to be at least ONE phone that does what you need it to do, with or sans good service!
I didn't happen to see your post prior to posting further down...
I've seen the Euro-version of the TPro all over, but not the NA version. So if what you say is true (which I certainly hope it is), then that's good news!
For me, as if I haven't made it obvious already, between the TPro and X1, my choice is TPro all the way, baby! TPro!
My only concern about the sprint version is no sd lot - I'm not sure if it doesn't come with an SD card or no card slot - I wouldn't care if it doesn't come with the card as long as it has a lot.
I was performing a firmware update one time and it froze - my only option was to put the firmware on the sd card and then boot of the SD card in update mode - (I've done about 50 updates so it isn't like I need it every time but in this case it saved me from having to get a new phone).
Sprint and Verizon can get all they want, but if HTC doesn't release a North American GSM version of the Touch Pro, they're going to have a lot of people who are pissed off at them!
And they better offer it unlocked! Reasons for that vary, of course, but among them is that a lot of people aren't going to want to be forced to go to AT&T and get locked into some two year contract just because they desire access to the Touch Pro.
What made HTC go CDMA only in NorthAm (at least so far) with both of these and not GSM, anyway? Give me GSM and a SIM card anyday.
Well, at least with CDMA you get to choose from 2 crappy carriers if you want 3G. With GSM you're stuck with AT&T, as T-Mobile is only starting to roll out 3G, and won't be in many markets until after October.

I think I'd prefer it to be called Munster.
Well this is just wonderful. I've been holding out on getting a new phone (waiting for the HTC diamond or touch pro or thunder, etc). It finally seems like one of those is nearing release and I find out that Verizon is crippling it. Great!
At least there is still SOME hope. Maybe Verizon is crippling the Diamond but will actually improve on the Touch Pro?
If the thunder doesn't seem any good i may just switch to AT&T and get the Bold.
The HTC Victor is a REAL device already on GSM http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/17/htc-victor-gets-de-glitzed-unboxed/
It's not Sprint choosing to name it that, it's actually a REAL device ALREADY available. It's the Diamond, minus the Diamond back.
Totally forgot about that.
THe Herman and the Victor? Who the hell is naming these phones/ do you want to own a Sprint Herman??
Well the Sprint version is inline with the HTC Diamond already released. The Verizon version is getting gimped pretty bad.
this is being released to radioshacks at the end of august
why does it say on this one:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/showimage.php?m=Articles.Images&f=name&id=17633&v=
that the sprint version have an expansion slot?

Thats the Touch Pro, not the Diamond. Thats why their both listed as having microSD slots. The pic of the Diamond specs lists a 4GB internal chip for Sprint.
However, as someone already pointed out, apparently Engadget missed the battery capacity upgrade for the Diamond on both carriers versions, now 1340 mAh as opposed to 900 mAh, this is awesome
How did Engadget manage to miss the best part? According to this the battery has also been upgraded from 900mAh to 1340mAh!
The Victor name is stupid (hopefully just a codename) and it sucks if they really gimp the Verizon version of the Diamond that badly. Even though I have Sprint I want to see this phone do well across all carriers.
October cannot come soon enough...unless VZW doesnt gimp their TPro, Sprint has themselves a new customer
I talked to a rep at Best Buy yesterday and he assured me the Touch Diamond will be available at his store August 27th....
Tp be honest. I dont believe that Verizon will change the specs of the touch diamond or touch pro from the Sprint versions. Most likely they will be better. And I'm saying this as an owner of both an htc mogul(ppc6800) and an xv6800(Titan). They are the same device (specs wise) but the mogul is sexier (in my opnion) however even running the exact same ROMs on both devices (thank you ppckitchen!) The xv6800 runs faster and smoother. Both phones are in good condition. The VZW version just seems more refined. I could be wrong. Seeing as I'm a Big V customer I hope im not. If verizon does decide to cripple the hardware and not just the software (or GPS) then Sprint has just gained another customer. Drop VZW in a heart beat for my Touch Pro!!!!! ME want it bad!!!!
I am so glad I resisted the whole Instinct hype, and all because I want a "cool" phone. Come to me Herman! Come to me and marry me for the next 2 years.
It's was set in stone that I and this phone where meant to be. Sprint's line up of smart phones has always been top notch, yet never had that appeal enough to make a switch, I've been rockin the Samsung A-900 and even though they jipped the sd card slot that was in the korean version, it's awesome fast evdo internet, my Opera Mini browser saved me so many boring moments, everyday. Using a phone-as-a modem is also a HUGE deal when the broadband cable goes out. I'd hope they release both versions Touch and Touch Pro Sept 2nd, use the sales figures to cap the supply and demand and shorten manufacturing according to sales. Ill be rocking my Sprint Touch Pro on my gramped Sero Plan for the next two years. Rock on!
The name of the phone's are going to be htc touch diamond which is coming out on september 2nd. the other one is going to be called the htc raphael don't have the exact date it will come out yet. those are the official names for the phones.
in case no one has heard, sprint will release the pro version of diamond on the 14 th of september
It just blows my mind that these behemoth corporations dont realize that if they would just read these forums and blogs which contain the views and ideas of their very own consumers they wouldnt have to cripple anything and give us exactly what we want! Its called consumer feedback and they should use it. That way we can use their devices for what we need to do and they still make a assload of cash cuz bottom line is.....If it's fucking awesome....we buy it.
Service Rep Today confirmed a push back (Not at all Suprising) of the Release date for Sprint on the Touch Pro to Nov 2 (which will be pushed back to dec no doult)
AT&T "Fuze" is the Touch Pro
