ASUS gets official with Eee Stick

ASUS has hardly been keeping this one a secret, but the company has only just now finally gotten completely official with its Eee Stick gaming controller, and it's taken the opportunity to drop a few new details about it. That includes word that the device will be "bundled exclusively" with "certain models" of the Eee PC and Eee Box (which doesn't exactly narrow things down), and that it'll come with a collection of games that have been designed specifically for it (we're not getting our hopes up there). Otherwise, ASUS has confirmed that the device operates on the 2.4GHz frequency, which could be interesting depending on what other wireless devices you have nearby, and that each stick will require a pair of AA batteries, which ASUS says will give you three days of continuous use, and no doubt a good deal longer if you want to avoid a trip to the hospital.

I think I've uncovered the truth behind all this. It says it all right here http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=12328 and I webquote "ASUS Puts New Twist on PC Gaming with First-of-its-kind Wireless Controller"
imacmatt09 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:06PM
Nintendo is gonna drop an Eee suit on them.
Dillon @ Aug 6th 2008 4:06PM
I can already here Nintendo scribbling up the suing papers...

Not to worry, no one actually uses landlines anymore...
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Aug 6th 2008 6:18PM
I can already see me using this device, then, after the phone rings, the screen would show a popup that says {#`%${%&`+'${`%&NO CARRIER
Jon Doe. @ Aug 6th 2008 6:58PM
221,
I really do hope you are kidding. If not someone needs to smack you upside the head for stupidity.
initialxy @ Aug 6th 2008 4:07PM
gaming on eee pc and eee box? i don't look forward to that.
Mr. Snuggle Bunny @ Aug 6th 2008 5:37PM
Oh shit it's NOT for Wii? I thought it was a third party nunchuck when I read this article. That just shows that they're REALLY asking to get sued!
Its.A.tarp @ Aug 6th 2008 4:12PM
Im not gonna point out the similarities to another gaming controller, as that is pointing out the obvious. Its all a matter of time before the big N calls them on this.
jaalin @ Aug 6th 2008 4:10PM
saw them demoing these at computex, the girls playing it weren't too adept and it looked like it had worse sensitivity than what you would see in wii sports boxing. still, i think it's a step in the right direction for pc gaming.
BigD145 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:10PM
This is vaguely familiar...
Kawaiipikachu @ Aug 6th 2008 7:52PM

I'm a big Wii fan, but let's let Nintendo worry about whether any patents were violated. It's not like the Wii remote was the first motion sensitive controller--hell, even the Dreamcast had a similar prototype.
If they get them on anything it will be for the visual similarity to the Nunchuck, but honestly I've had a few similar shaped handheld controllers over the years (sans joystick).
It behooves all of us for companies to copy the good stuff as much as they can. We get better products and it creates more competition. If companies get too overzealous in their copies the owners of the intellectual property will no doubt prevail in court, but it's nothing for us to get excited about.

Hi, I'm Justin and I work at the arch nemesis of Engadget called EEERumors.com. This is small potatoes compared to what the ASUS has coming down the pipeline for Kwanzaa 08.
EEEmpower Mitten creates a surreal virtual reality experience where you can motion your right arm forward and use secondary controls to get in the game like never before. Accompanying the EEEmpower Mitten will be Christian Bale: Pro Chastiser 08, An Evening At The Players Ball and Bejeweled 3!
Next up, the completely revolutionary TaEEEbo! With a StEEEp Pad and your EEEmpower Mitten, Sensei BillEEE Blanks will guide you through several action packed exercises as you sweat it out to the sultry sounds of Lou Bega and the Vegaboys. We're going to party like it's 1998 all over again. Somebody break out the ecstacy!
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Aug 6th 2008 6:19PM
Don't you mean EEEctasy?
HunterXI @ Aug 6th 2008 5:31PM
Um.
Did ASUS suddenly migrate its operations to China?
Teon @ Aug 6th 2008 6:19PM
no, they make their stuff there. HQ is in Taiwan.

I can't wait for the new EeeTouch and EeePhone.
shonuf @ Aug 6th 2008 6:53PM
I think if it was Apple related then Engadget would have made a comment on how it looks exactly like Apple's product.
eilegz @ Aug 6th 2008 7:33PM
well the wii and the eee have something in common, very underpowered machines maybe for more "casual" shovelware games....
RomeoDude @ Aug 6th 2008 8:22PM
While it's an interesting concept, I don't think there will be any really great games that utilize the EeeMote.
xValentine @ Aug 6th 2008 10:17PM
Creativity at it's best.

riggs @ Aug 7th 2008 8:36AM
Eee would like to play
ShadowKain @ Aug 7th 2008 10:44AM
Way to capitalize on the Wii there ASUS, trying to save your bloated Eee Branding?
jacob @ Aug 19th 2008 11:46AM
WHAT!?!?! i see no point in this! 0_o!?
Haemophilic @ Sep 7th 2008 10:07AM
Get sue? I'm not quite sure about that... the technology ASUS use was transferred from ITRI a Taiwanese government funded research institute, and they claim to be much sensitive and able to differentiate 10 kinds of hand motions as compared to 3 by the wii.
