Dell did its best to unload its seemingly abundant supply of
Xbox 360 Elite bundles by
selling them alongside XPS M1730 machines, but just in case a few of you didn't have $3,000 set aside to score the both of them, Dell is now offering the Elite bundle all by its lonesome for mere $299 -- a nice $150 savings. To un-sweeten the deal, they're also tossing in a couple ugly faceplates, Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Get 'em before they're gone.

Do you still have to return it every month or are we passed that stage?
Jim Halpert DM @ Aug 6th 2008 5:00PM
Do you still have to be an idiot..or are you past that stage?
bolezhinkov @ Aug 6th 2008 5:03PM
its almost like youre not as funny as jim. returning a million xboxes was pretty much status quo if you recall.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Aug 6th 2008 5:03PM
Jim,
Seems like a legit question.
But Microsoft extended the warranty to, what, 3 years, no questions asked? So I wouldn't worry about it.
I've got an Elite I picked up a year ago. It was worth the extra cash for the big disk + HDMI + black everything that matches all of my other electronics.
No RROD yet, but I probably don't play it enough...
Rogue_Genius @ Aug 6th 2008 5:08PM
If by "passed" you meant "past" then that all depends on when your chipset was made.
Jim Halpert DM @ Aug 6th 2008 5:36PM
Yeah..but I don't know anyone who returns theirs EVERY month. Plus when mine finally crapped out...it got returned in about a week..and I was why past warranty (had it since launch..gave out last month).
rock99rock @ Aug 6th 2008 6:08PM
SOLDOUT!!! I got mine :) Others not so lucky :(
teej @ Aug 6th 2008 6:42PM
Jim,
the 360 was released 11/22/05, and that means every 360 out there is still under warranty for RRoD issues (see: 3years). either way, 1 week turnaround is a great; mine was only about 2.5 weeks.
imarobot @ Aug 6th 2008 7:54PM
just sent mine it. i've had two white premiums, then traded up for an elite. i'll be on will be on my third elite in a few weeks. so yes, you do have to send them in every month.
ShadowKain @ Aug 7th 2008 10:43AM
@teej,
Not True. The 3 years is only for specific motherboards, so New xbox'en only are covered by a year. Unless its the other way around. I know its not every console for sure.
CAHLITO @ Aug 6th 2008 4:45PM
Damn! i Just bought a 20GB last month....
Oh well I barely play with it anyways.
blizzarddemon @ Aug 6th 2008 6:54PM
Omg Im SO glad I got this at 5 pm, I was debating waiting untill tomorrow, but seriously, I knew these were going to sell out in an hour after being posted here. SO HAPPY^^
LOL~! @ Aug 6th 2008 4:45PM
Well, I for sure am going to buy one now.
Now that I saved $150, time to blow $100 on that wireless adapter. :|
phinnvr6 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:47PM
Wait doesn't the Elite come with WiFi? Your kidding right? Every console comes with WiFi
icepop4who @ Aug 6th 2008 4:58PM
and the other $50 for that xbox live gold membership.
Killer @ Aug 6th 2008 5:01PM
Any (some exceptions ofcourse) wireless adapter can be used on the 360. So why are people still saying they're going to spend $100? It completely baffles me, why people still think you have to buy the extremely over-priced microsoft one!

@icepop4who
You mean the 28 dollar, 13 month subscribtion I have? Seriously? Do people know how to find deals? Well at least Engadget does, since that's what the article is about.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Aug 6th 2008 5:25PM
Why would you want to pay for WiFi if you don't need it? I'm glad Microsoft didn't include it.
My XBox is plugged into my switch, which is right next to my cable modem, which is right next to my TV, where there is.. *gasp*... a cable jack.
I suspect 95% of the XBoxes in use are near an Internet connection and don't need WiFi. So why should MS make us pay for WiFi we don't need?
fashionista @ Aug 6th 2008 5:28PM
Some of use don't think $100 is a lot of money, and some of us like the way the adapter snaps onto the 360. You know, like it was designed to be there. And by "some of us" I mean me.
Dale @ Aug 6th 2008 6:20PM
The lack of wi-fi is a head scratcher, to be sure. Granted, the two rival systems came out afterwards and thus it was easy to tack it on as a differentiator, but the Elite should have righted that.
Oh well, my 360 is less than a metre from my router anyway, and that's not going to change for a while.
BluesK1d @ Aug 7th 2008 10:19AM
This drove me crazy! I cant stand MS and their BS excuses as to why you have to pay extra for all the stuff they said it was going to come with. Who still charges a Benjamin for a frackin' 802.11g adapter? Oh yeah, MS! The TiVo adapter is essentially the exact same thing and it's $60 (even thats a little up there). I also love how they made a big deal about how now Live for Windows would now be free, yet the same service on the 360 never will be. Seriously MS stop raping us!
Ah sorry, Im just bitter. I got my elite back after it RRoDed on me and now its even louder (at idle) than it was before (yes, somehow that is possible). Unless there is some exclusive game or I need to playback a high def WMV file, I dont even turn the damn thing on. My usage priority goes in this order: PC > Popcorn Hour > PS3 > 360
phinnvr6 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:46PM
I'm not in the market for an Xbox (I'm very happy with my PS3 and don't need another system) but thats definitely a hell of a deal while it lasts.
xeon @ Aug 6th 2008 4:47PM
Why are they selling them off?
LiqwidZero @ Aug 6th 2008 4:50PM
Old stock, more than likely.
giantenemycrab @ Aug 6th 2008 5:47PM
Hmm, so the savings might be not worth it. If it's too old, it might have the old motherboard and a much higher chance of RRoD. If I were looking for a 360, I might pass on this one.
Brad @ Aug 6th 2008 9:31PM
They probably bought a ton of these to sell as accessories to their big $3k machines. Since those are going a little slow, it's time to dump some stock that's just taking up space in their warehouse.
They did this with the Haromony remotes a while back. You could get an 880 (still $250 now) for $92. They had tried to sell them with Dell TVs but had no luck in that business.
Kyle @ Aug 6th 2008 4:51PM
Not even a free XBOX could make people want to actually own a Dell...
quomen @ Aug 6th 2008 5:08PM
Wait, are you joking? Have you actually seen any of Dells computers recently? If you missed it, the Red Sox won the World Series and the World Trade Center is no longer standing. Our last three presidents were George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George Bush Sr. Oh and the North won the Civil War.
The Dude @ Aug 6th 2008 5:10PM
Dude, you're getting a Dell. And a 360. AND YOU'LL LIKE IT. It's a dangerous world. *Accidents* happen. Capiche?
CraigJ @ Aug 6th 2008 5:25PM
Dell's computers are a little ugly (IMO) but the hardware isn't usually the problem. Don't bang on Dell for Microsoft's shortcomings.
CarpeD1em500 @ Aug 6th 2008 4:53PM

really really really old stock. seriously, who goes to dell to buy a game console?
icepop4who @ Aug 6th 2008 4:59PM
dell sells a lot of stuff that are...well...not dell. they are actually a legitimate electronics retailer.

Keep this on slickdeals.
-_-
Probably dead deal already.
Phoenix987 @ Aug 6th 2008 5:09PM
Sounds like a good deal, although anyone else think this may be a sign of things to come, what with the rumored price drop on the 360?
Dell selling the Elite for $300, to get rid of old stock, but maybe it'll be a sign that the rumored price drop isn't that big a rumor but more fact. But I don't really see the Elite dropping to $299 though, so hell, this is a really good deal.
And Engadget, Forza 2 isn't "an ugly faceplate" especially if you are looking for a racing game on the 360. To me, this deal would be better because I like racing games. Sure, not everyone will, but still, to each their own.
Mental Issues @ Aug 6th 2008 5:20PM
I think you may have misunderstood. The package comes with the Forza/Marvel holiday bundle AND a couple of undeniably ugly faceplates.
Phoenix987 @ Aug 6th 2008 5:41PM
yeah, my bad...
That's what I get for trying to read it while having a puppy attack my foot and 2 screaming kids whining about something I rightly don't care about.
Definitely misunderstood. But who would care about the faceplates anyway? Nice addon if you want to use them, but who really cares?
Spiny Norman @ Aug 6th 2008 5:49PM
Why don't you teach the puppy to attack the 2 screaming kids, and leave your foot alone? ;-)
Phoenix987 @ Aug 6th 2008 6:19PM
probably laziness :P
Apparently the deal's over.... They must have gotten rid of all that excess supply already.
Lowest Ranked @ Aug 6th 2008 6:33PM
There was no price cut or overstock, it was a pricing mistake like the Lenovo incident this morning.
Go tend to your dog and your kids, you're starting to get annoying.
Phoenix987 @ Aug 6th 2008 7:07PM
must suck I don't care if I'm annoying or not.
It's called sarcasm by the way, you should definitely look into it. I know it wasn't a supply thing, I'm not stupid.
The $150 off certain computers till August 8th that they're doing at Dell is a good idea, especially for those of us that might be looking for something to upgrade to.
If Dell has any reasonable employees left, this mistake will be honored or, like lenovo, they will offer a solution. However, it is Dell, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
Loban @ Aug 6th 2008 5:13PM
Ugly faceplates = bad
Marvel Ultimate Alliance = okay
Forze 2 = AWESOME!!!!!!
vexx786 @ Aug 6th 2008 5:21PM
Totally Agree. Forza 2 is an awesome game.
