Logitech Squeezebox Boom pops up on Dutch site
Well, would ya look at what popped up at Dutch online shop wifimedia? The Logitech Squeezebox Boom looks to be a nice way to turn your Squeezebox network digital audio into soundwaves with 802.11g, a digital amplifier, SqueezeNetwork online music service access, and a 7-day alarm for those of you with techy bedrooms. As for the speakers, they are 3-inch woofers with 3/4-inch tweeters bi-amplified by the aforementioned digital amp. Other notable features include an IR remote, 6-button presets, high-contrast VFD display, 10/100Base-T ethernet port, and a 1/8-inch stereo input. The Euro price is €279, which currently nets out to $431.44 US. We'd venture to guess that will net out to a sub-$400 price, but only time -- and economies -- will tell.
Update: Hey, would you look at that -- the manual for the Squeezebox Boom is now live on the Slim Devices site. Looks like we'll be seeing this bad boy soon.
[Thanks, Peter and LPD]

Not worth the money imo, cool box though.
gristle @ Aug 6th 2008 10:09AM
The squeezebox duet costs 400 Euro in Europe and 400 dollars in the US. So If I have done my maths correctly this thing will cost 279 dollars.

Considering here in the Netherlands we usually pay twice the price you Americans have to pay for electronics, the price in the US will probably be way below the $400 mark.
Good news for you, I guess.

Nice find! Nothing whatsoever on the Slimdevices/Logitech site. I was thinking of getting another SB and some powered speakers for the bedroom, this might work well instead.

There is a User Manual on the SlimDevices.com website,
Go to slimdevices.com (not www.slimdevices.com)
You will see a search screen, search for "Boom" it will bring up the 28 page PDF of the user's manual

The US price will be $279.

I'm glad Slim Devices / Logitech finally made an all-in-one Squeezebox unit, which functionally means one power cable (or perhaps battery power), no ethernet cable, and no audio cables. I'm always skeptical about placing stereo speakers in close proximity to each other and would have appreciated a high quality mono speaker and the ability to feed stereo audio to another speaker system, kind of like the Tivoli Audio radios.

Will it support Pandora?
Subliminal Fusion @ Aug 6th 2008 11:29AM
Yes, it supports Pandora, Last.fm, Rhapsody, Slacker, MP3tunes, Sirius, Live365.com, RadioIO, RadioTime and internet radio audio streams - those are all on SqueezeNetwork (see http://www.squeezenetwork.com/) which is mentioned in the manual.
It also works with a local server running SqueezeCenter, meaning you can run an application on a local machine (PC, Mac, Linux, some NAS devices) and play all your digital music files through it (it supports a wide range of formats, but no DRM).

I'll be having one of those the day it hits the UK :D

Wow. I still have a SliMP3 in the bedroom and an alarm clock. I was considering a chumby to integrate the two, but this looks like a really good deal.
For anyone that's never used one of these devices, it's about as life-changing as getting a Tivo or Satellite radio - you'll wonder how you got along without it.

I actually bought a few things from there.
Their real shop is nice as well.
Looks like they kinda messed up here though :P
David @ Aug 6th 2008 3:53PM
Looks like it was made/designed by the same people who did the Freecom MusicPal radio (also Dutch).
thePeterN @ Aug 6th 2008 11:19PM
When will they come out with a shower radio model? Wifi+waterproof just makes sense.

how can i access a track in my itunes playlist without scrolling to it using the remote and the unit itself? for example, if i want to play 'sunday bloody sunday' by u2 must i scroll all the way down to 'u2' or 'sunday bloody sunday'? i have a 30,000 song library and scrolling to find songs is not good.
thanks!
