RAmos T8 iMovie PMP: 32GB, .4 inch thick, $219
RAmos tends to tease us with slick product photos / renders all the time and then pump out shoddy, derivative crap, so we're not going to get too excited about the new T8 iMovie (sigh, terrible name), but here it is looking pretty slick on video -- and the specs are solid for $219. That's a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 touchscreen in a 10mm (.4 inch) thick case, with 32GB of storage and decent codec support, TV-out, and micro speakers. Too bad we don't know if it's coming Stateside, but if you're headed to the Olympics, it's probably worth checking out. Video after the break.

Stylus???
imacmatt09 @ Aug 6th 2008 6:10PM
Screw the iPod Touch. I want this!
Steffen Jobbs @ Aug 6th 2008 6:49PM
Not so fast. You haven't seen the new iPod Touch (rumored to come with 64 GB), which will make this thing look like yesterday's Zune.
This thing doesn't even have accelerometers or sensors and don't even consider trying to download a game from the App Store on it. Does it even have WiFi?
I guess you're being seduced by the 4.3 inch screen and speakers. Not bad, but you still need to wait for a while to see what Apple has to offer this year.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you are Steve Jobs gay lover.

If I knew any better, I think I _would_ say that you are Steve Jobs' gay lover.

Perhaps he sees Job's like this?

Steffen you maybe surprised but some people don't even care about wifi, and accelerometer, or games on their video/music player.

I have been scarred for ever. I hope you're proud.

@ Steffen Jobbs
This is what Apple will offer: the same fucking thing with a bigger hard drive and 1 or 2 changes (not physical)
Safe to say he dosent have to wait for the announcement.
Hung @ Aug 7th 2008 10:01AM
@ Steffen Jobs
I didn't know how useful accelerometers, sensors, and WIFI were when I'M TRY TO LISTEN TO FUCKING MUSIC.
Actually, I could see how this might be useful when watching a movie. No, NO I FUCKING CAN'T.

imacmatt09 @ Aug 6th 2008 6:12PM
Video down?
CraigJ @ Aug 6th 2008 6:13PM
I cannot decide if I like this or not until I see an attractive Asian model holding the device.
Ruben @ Aug 6th 2008 6:16PM
The interface is very laggy and seems unintuitive.
But they score 100 on size, form factor, storage, and price (for a PMP).
Could use a higher resolution screen, but considering what it has, i wont knock it for that.
rich_rich @ Aug 6th 2008 6:18PM
It could've been a total winner if it has wifi.
Or at least put it as optional.
No go for me.
CraigJ @ Aug 6th 2008 6:20PM
by the way, Google tells me: 0.3 inches = 7.62 millimeters
maveric101 @ Aug 7th 2008 12:19AM
...the title says .4 inches...
CraigJ @ Aug 7th 2008 2:00AM
That's what it says *now* They edited it.

Wow,there is also another model imovie T8+ which is the same player with TV function.
That's interesting.

Anything w/ a lower case i preceding it not made by apple get's met with mucho speculation from me.
alan @ Aug 6th 2008 6:48PM
this definitely owns itouch... in its form factor...
not sure about the technical though... might freeze and probably poor battery at this point... (though i have no prove)
but give it a year or so, they'll own apple ianything..
nicksa7xx @ Aug 6th 2008 6:53PM
this would be alot better if it didnt need a stylus, and if it was an itouch.
A.C.E.R. @ Aug 6th 2008 6:55PM
Seems a bit early for crapgadget again...
KeegdnaB @ Aug 6th 2008 7:11PM
Basically this means Apple has no reason to be charging 500 smackaroons for a 32GB touch.....right?
TavisJohn @ Aug 6th 2008 8:39PM
No, Apple has every right to charge the $500.00 "OMG it is soo shiny and it is APPLE!" fanboy fees.
Why should Apple change their price when the have people addicted to iTunes? You can only use Apple portable players with iTunes, no other portable player will do.
jojo @ Aug 6th 2008 9:17PM
@TavisJohn:
You don't need to use iTunes to manage your ipod. iTunes isn't even a very good music manager.
macserv @ Aug 6th 2008 9:15PM
Very few people buy an Apple music/phone device because of how awesome iTunes is. They may be more inclined to *stay* with the device because of a large iTunes library (easy enough to migrate, actually) but they *buy* it because they saw/held someone's iPod/iPhone and loved the way it felt and worked.
You make it sound like people are walking around saying, "Oooh, wow, I HAVE to get an iTunes-compatable device!" Get real.

SOLD!
jojo @ Aug 6th 2008 8:52PM
Codec support is worthless unless it has robust resolution support. Transcoding is total BS nowadays, which is why all apple products are worthless. If this can render things much bigger than its screen it might be worth the price.
My N800 was $200 with a 800x480 4.1" and runs mplayer which can handle every single non-DRM format in all reasonable resolutions, although the 400mhz ARM processor can't handle x264 and you need to use mplayer flags to decode higher-definition files. Plus it has two SDHC slots. I've currently got 32GB of super cheap storage in it (2x16GB@$55/ea), with a theoretical maximum of 4 terabytes, (though by the time 2TB cards are out a 400mhz processor is going to look pretty damn wimpy!) And it has a mozilla-based browser, skype, and BT keyboard support. The future is open source.
L Victor Marks @ Aug 6th 2008 11:11PM
Apple already has a product named iMovie. Now Apple will have to defend their trademark against these folks.
Any takers on how long that'll take?
Mikey @ Aug 7th 2008 11:33AM
That's only if they sell it in the U.S. with the same name.
Also, isn't iMovie (Apple's) a software program. They would always have a counterargument (although not a great one) that these are completely different product types (software vs. PMP), so there isn't a likelihood of confusion (the standard for trademark infringement). A related counterargument, the "i" before "Movie" has no distinctive effect (it's just a shortened form of "internet") and "Movie" is a generic term, so Apple can't own a broad trademark in "iMovie."
kingofwale @ Aug 6th 2008 9:46PM
some seriously lagging in the response time of the software on that time.
I'm normally all pro good PMP players with awesome codec support, but this looks like crap.
TareX @ Aug 6th 2008 10:16PM
Ok so many use the "i" in their product name. But what's with the ICONS? they look familiar.
Chinese innovation takes yet another hit.
Unknown @ Aug 7th 2008 9:59AM
sure it looks like the iphone's icon to you right
yui @ Aug 6th 2008 10:18PM

Li @ Aug 7th 2008 2:14PM
looks really slow on the interface part......

@Hang -- that's the funniest comment I've seen in a while when some the nonchalants fanbois open their big and dirty mouth...at any other gadgets out there.......
Robin Quivers @ Aug 9th 2008 2:39PM
The biggest problems (among others) I see with this product are:
• If it requires a stylus, it’s not a real “touch” screen. Styluses are so 1996.
• It has a cheap plastic screen. As soon as you take this thing out of the box it’s guaranteed to get scratched. Hell, you’re dragging a damn stylus on it all the time!
• According to the specs, there are a whopping thirty-seven television stations that can be picked up with this thing… and if you’re part of the 98% of the world’s population that doesn’t pick up China’s goofy version of digital TV you’re sunk.
• No WiFi. Yes, it’s a function people like because they can get their music over the air.
