T-Mobile 3G is live in Vegas, baby
That's right, kids, T-Mobile launched 3G data in Vegas this morning. The 1700MHz AWS 3G network went live for phones that can hit the UMTS 3G data stream, and if your phone is one of those, you may want to look for the pretty little icon and start doing some Intertron browsing. T-Mobile still expects to hit another 20 markets this year (along with some new handsets), so if you're not in Sin City, be patient -- 3G is coming.

Hey! I'm in Vegas!
I finally have a reason to switch from AT&T. Except I just got the new iPhone.... and the 3G service for it here is HORRIBLE... call dropping, call missing HORRIBLE..... any way to get out of my contract because the service sucks?
um, i work for t-mobile...there's no increased rate with data
transfers, currently 3g is only used for voice..
and the new york market was already open....so this isn't a welcome to
3g.
Quite a lot of morons posting here, European and American. Bottom line is, T-Mobile is the last US carrier to deploy 3G on a large scale so for their customers this is a big deal. If you get 10Gazzilion Mbps on your at&t or Euro Voda, O2 or T-Mobile service thats grand. However that means nothing to the audience this press release is intended for and who would rightly be interested in this news.
On another note its really something to see all the whiners from the US. When T-Mo didnt have 3G everyone was moaning, saying they were behind. Now they are starting to deploy their 3G everyone is still moaning, saying they are late. Especially is you are not on T-Mobile what exactly is your problem with T-Mobile's 3G? If you are not on their network how does this affect you? If you are on their network and you want 3G service why are you still with them? Why not have a bit of backbone and actually do something, like switch to another carrier??!!!
Hasn't Google been saying their Android phones will work on only T-mobile's 3G network when they're first released? Interesting to see how this is going to happen since the network basically isn't even available yet. And presumably in October it'll only be available in select cities.
wtf.
I guess my question would be: which phone on the market actually supports this 1700/2100 AWS 3g? People stated that normal Asia/Europe based 2100umts/hsdpa doesn't appear to be compatible, and I can't find any 3g specific phones from tmobile themselves. :(
T-Mobile has a few phones that use 3G but they're not advertised as 3G because they're just voice phones. I'm sure that'll change when some data-focused phones come out, like the Android one later in the year.
looking forward to new smartphones
WOOT IM IN VEGAS!! But I have at&t!
Anyone else been getting free UMA recently? I used to get it, but then they launched @Home in my area so I stopped getting it. But now it's been turned back on. I'm afraid to call in and ask about it.
