The Dark Knight Xbox 360 spotted in the wild
As you've surely heard (and hopefully confirmed for yourself) by now, The Dark Knight is a runaway hit. So much so, in fact, that a number of manufacturers have figured it prudent to crank our hardware with the iconic Batman logo front and center. Next in line for admission on the bandwagon seems to be Microsoft, which apparently showed off a "limited edition" (read: likely one of a kind) Dark Knight Xbox 360 over in Taiwan. We know, you want the details -- eventual release dates, a price, the works. Unfortunately for us all, we're stuck with just that image above and hope for the future. Hey, at least you can let your imagination run wild.

MEH!
Blackstar @ Aug 6th 2008 8:05AM
No wonder the 360's are overheating. That thing's not getting any air at all.
High Ranks make you sterile @ Aug 6th 2008 8:28AM
Why would a movie sell a game console? And it seems like the only market for someone like this would be someone who intended on buying a 360, but hadn't yet. So why would a movie featured on it be the impetus?
Halo 3 LE? Fine. MGS4 LE PS3? Fine. Is there a video game coming out for this movie? Probably. They likely do that sort of thing. You know what else it likely does? Suck. Suck hard.
So a Simpsons 360 won't make anyone buy a 360 who wasn't going to already. Tinting it gold or platinum is more likely to get more people shelling out the cash for it, but painting it gold and putting Homer's face on it makes it attractive only to Simpsons fans. (Yes, The Simpsons Game wasn't that bad, but it also wasn't attached to the movie.)
It's sexy, but I don't really see the point -- unless it's 360 fans who also liked the movie looking for an upgrade.
Gaz @ Aug 6th 2008 10:14AM
thats a good looking breeze block that
Vcize @ Aug 6th 2008 11:00AM
Well, I'd imagine it has less to do with convincing someone to buy a 360 that wasn't already going to, and more to do with being able to charge the guy that was already going to buy one an extra $50-$100 for a paint job that cost $2 to manufacture.

It's promotional. The studio didn't go out and buy some 360's, paint them, and hope that they could sell them at a profit.
In fact, Domino's is giving these as prizes to 110 lucky pizza eaters.
Also, why so serious?
Samboini @ Aug 6th 2008 6:48AM
These were a giveaway prize in a London weekly men's magazine. Other sites (such as HFM etc.) are also running competitions for them.
Samboini @ Aug 6th 2008 6:56AM
FHM even. Whoops.
Adderz @ Aug 6th 2008 6:51AM
Who buys a console just for the picture on the side?
Why would this sway you to buy a console...or sell your current one for this one?
ijyt @ Aug 6th 2008 7:15AM
Because it's different from the normal one, and you like it? Seeing as you'll be looking at it for a few years.
Seth @ Aug 6th 2008 7:18AM
so you're one of those people that wants their clothes, phones, cars, and game consoles to all be flat gray...
Call it personality or style or geek factor - but people like to be different - don't be such a killjoy.
j_g_puff @ Aug 6th 2008 7:33AM
Don't worry Adderz, I agree with you.
If I'm spending a hundred and fifty quid on a piece of hardware designed, marketed and desired for its gaming ability, external apperance is the last thing I care about. And even if I did care about it, I could just find a talented buddy to get artsy up the side of my unit and have a *truly* one of a kind machine.
Vcize @ Aug 6th 2008 11:02AM
Whew, well it's a good thing you explained your buying habits to us j_g_puff, because now we can extrapolate that out and assume that the same goes for everyone in the entire world.
Adderz @ Aug 6th 2008 11:18AM
I just dont see this as an effective marketing strategy.
I dont even see it as a "cash in".
Its like if you bought a car ONLY because it had the Dark Knight logo on it. Sure some people might be that strange, but im sure i could could those people on one hand.
The same goes for this console.
Ken Stross @ Aug 6th 2008 6:54AM
Numerous Dark Knight branded Xbox 360s have been produced and offered in a variety of contests in promotion of the film. Dominos Pizza is awarding 110 units with either graphics of Batman or the Joker, while many local tv stations are awarding units with the Dark Knight logo as pictured above.
d @ Aug 6th 2008 6:56AM
any idea what the setting of this was? I assume a conference of sorts and not your average Gamestop, or I'd say some sort of mod.
chow.johnny @ Aug 8th 2008 1:00AM
Hong Kong(not Taiwan). I walked past one last Friday at the ACGHK comic festival 2008.
DT @ Aug 6th 2008 6:58AM
It appears to be stuck in a Brita filter.
UltimateTOR @ Aug 6th 2008 6:59AM
Damn thats hot.
ahdok @ Aug 6th 2008 7:04AM
One word.
Decals.
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 6th 2008 7:46AM
lol
Paint it yourself. It's better that way. Decals look tacky.
ipubs bastard child @ Aug 6th 2008 7:31AM
@UltimateTOR
I second that but choose to use a less subtle approach. Your website is shit and now fuck off. You don't even reference the sites you've stolen from!
Pedro Blandino @ Aug 6th 2008 7:36AM
it's up on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180273826590&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=008
ipubs bastard child @ Aug 6th 2008 7:51AM
US $3,999.99. I can't begin to explain my astonishment at that figure!
Anybody that buys that deserves a red ring of death.
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 6th 2008 8:14AM
Lol
And it has the crappy HDD that doesn't even have the Chrome on it.
El Taco @ Aug 6th 2008 10:23AM
awesome. It looks from those pics that it's converted from a 360:halo version because of the orangeish disc slot
KBeat @ Aug 6th 2008 7:50AM
When it fails, rather than the red ring of death, it taunts you with maniacal laughter and asks "Why so serious?"
HAZE @ Aug 6th 2008 8:44AM
Dammit, I was gonna say the same thing.
Great minds think alike. ;op
tyler @ Aug 6th 2008 10:02AM
@ haze
If you were going to say the same thing, then you were meant for one more thing. Deletion.
Jim @ Aug 6th 2008 7:59AM
Quick check - who actually has their Xbox 360 sitting like that, in "portrait mode"?
Not I
jim @ Aug 6th 2008 9:15AM
I do, it saves space for the accessories around it.
vonbroner @ Aug 6th 2008 8:10AM
1) If it just had the logo, not the text, and
2) If I didn't already have a 360,
I still wouldn't pay extra for a sticker. You know a few months from now they'll be selling the decal at Target or somewhere.
dervheid @ Aug 6th 2008 8:13AM
I sincerely hope that my imagination is capable of running way wilder than THAT!
Amz @ Aug 6th 2008 8:19AM
but then you'd have the entire world crying cause of Heath Ledger.
farfisa @ Aug 6th 2008 8:50AM
Ever hear of stickers?
DrXym @ Aug 6th 2008 9:02AM
The 360 just needs Blu Ray playback capabilities and it might justify that theme.
Greg @ Aug 6th 2008 9:11AM
I'd like a "Pineapple Express" theme for my 360 Microsoft/Movie studio/Ad execs. I'd go for a "Midnight Cowboy" or "Maid in Manhattan" as well. Thanks.
Ristic @ Aug 6th 2008 11:06AM
Please god be joking
azz0r @ Aug 6th 2008 10:59AM
Needs more Joker.
jonyb @ Aug 6th 2008 12:26PM
what happens when the dark knight faces the dreaded ring of death, is it able to overcome it?
ShadowKain @ Aug 6th 2008 12:59PM
With the 360's life nearing the latter part of its life cycle soon, who would shell out money for a different / new one at a premium price that this might cost? Might as well wait for the next iteration.
Anthony @ Aug 6th 2008 3:27PM
ummm, it isnt only aavailible in thiawon, you can win one on myspace.
Andrew @ Aug 6th 2008 8:57PM
Acutally I have a JOKER xbox360 Limited Edition from this contest in my room just came today!!! I'll put up pictures later..Opening BID 7000
Joshua Walters @ Aug 6th 2008 9:02PM
How is a plastic case "the wild"?
macserv @ Aug 6th 2008 9:21PM
That looks like ass. Completely and utterly hamfisted.
武来庵 @ Aug 7th 2008 1:05AM
It was released on August 4th. That is what the Kanji next to it says. 8月4日。
