The PSP's biggest problem is emulating the PS and the PS2 without having a controller that properly emulates the control available ont hose systems. We don't need R2, R3 and L2, L3 but the analog sticks themselves are a must.
Imagine having both sticks and getting Call of Duty4 on there ! I played Rainbow 6 Vegas on PSP and was disgusted. The game looked great but without being able to properly look around (right stick) it felt totally wrong.
As for the touchscreen...if your gonna take the PSP down the iPhone route, speed up the CPU and add more onboard memory including a 4GB (or better) NAND drive.
I think its fine time for a new PSP to be released while we wait for Xbox 720 and PS4.
