Yes! Now iPhone users can once again go against Apple's will and tether their phone to their computer via Bluetooth and get 3G data speeds!!!
Zoom zoom, Jobs.

@ Hexing
Let me know when they release an anti-blowing patch to make you less gay.
Alex Padilla @ Aug 9th 2008 5:27AM
@Hexing
WHOA!!! What makes the iPhone so homosexual? Does this phone come in multiple genders so as to give it the chance to express its nonlinear-ness? Lay off the homophobic remarks, it makes you look ignorant and incapable of properly expressing your thoughts.
Chris @ Aug 9th 2008 12:37PM
You guys are talking to yourselves.

@Chris
He (Hexing) got himself booted/banned, and he took his posts with him. I'm glad, he was a jerk.

I'm going to miss seeing "by Ryan Block" beneath the headlines.
Kizorblade @ Aug 9th 2008 5:28AM
Same... will miss you Ryan mate.
MastrCake @ Aug 9th 2008 5:44AM
Ryan,
If I send you a cookie, will you stay?
Kizorblade @ Aug 9th 2008 6:03AM
@MastrCake
Judging from your name, I would assume that if you made a cake, it would be better than a cookie
Sachin @ Aug 9th 2008 1:12PM
Wait...where's Ryan going?
Ryan Block @ Aug 9th 2008 1:30PM
Aw, thanks guys! I wouldn't sweat it, Peter and I are still going to be working for the gadget fans, more on what we're up to soon!

Great news! Now iPhone owners can invalidate their warranties and possibly brick their phones to do stuff that other smartphone users can do as a matter of course!
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 5:05AM
Such as? I don't see you guys playing Crash Bandicoot on your smartphone without hacking in some way. The App Store rules!
Mark Anderson @ Aug 9th 2008 8:44AM
O RLY?

Now excuse me, I'm off to play Quake.
biggerx @ Aug 9th 2008 12:23PM
lol i play Quake on my iPhone.
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 12:46PM
OK, so you can play a ported version at 320X240 resolution, that is soooo cool. With a jailbreak, we can play Playstation, NES, Gameboy/Gameboy advance, Genesis, Doom, SNES, and a multitude of other ORIGINAL games at twice the resolution as you, with integrated (optional) accelerometer/vibration usage, and all of that can be installed with a couple taps of your finger on the screen, no computers, no cost, and nothing better.
So umm... other smartphones can't even compete with the iPhone in functionality, sorry to burst your bubble.
Mark Anderson @ Aug 9th 2008 1:10PM
Pay attention:
The N95 has an accelerometer and vibration function. In addition to the huge catalogue of games, including the NES, Gameboy, etc it also has all the original games available through N-gage and the other independent application sites. Most of these can be directly installed to the phone. I don't think there is a PSX emulator yet but there are ones for WinMo phones.
In addition they have one thing your iPhone is lacking - a tactile keypad so you don't skite all over your screen in a futile attempt to make your character move forward whilst under fire, thus avoiding any number of gratuitous and untimely deaths.
In other words, we have loads of games, available from different sources which don't require you to fuck up your warranty to install. In the meantime you have whatever uncle Steve allows you to download from the app store (provided he doesn't remove it for no apparent reason later) or you have the option of invalidating your phone by jaqilbreaking it.
Please try to understand your iPhone, whilst quite nice, isn't in any way shape or form original as far as downloadable content goes.
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 1:57PM
Once again, you, just like every PC user, list features from multiple devices and compare all of those features again the iPhone. Pick one phone, compare it to another phone. Not that hard. The iPhone vs. the N95 AND WinMo phones is not a fair fight (although the fact that you had to do that just shows that the iPhone is better than them both individually).
You act as if the touch screen is hard to use, and if you happen to have a handicap that affects your coordination, I see your point. Otherwise, I personally don't see how a person without a disability could have so much trouble playing on the iPhone's screen and would feel the need for buttons. (I beat the original Spyro PS game on that screen!)
Sure it ruins your warranty to jailbreak. On the other hand, who's going to find out? Just back up your jailbroken iPhone and click restore in iTunes before bringing/sending it into the shop! As long as you aren't stupid, you'll be fine!
So just recap, in case you didn't 'pay attention':
1. The iPhone beats the N95 and WinMo phones individually.
2. Buttons are for retards.
3. You have no clue what you are talking about.
Good day, sir!
jas0nuk @ Aug 9th 2008 3:36PM
Why do the iPhone trolls have to appear on every single iPhone related post? Get over it, you're not going to make someone suddenly decide to return their iPhone just by posting something like "LOL BUT DO YOU HAVE COPY AND PASTE?"
Christian Walters @ Aug 9th 2008 4:18PM
@supersexyerik, "you dont even have an app store!", umm yeah, all of us Windows Mobile and Nokia folks have thousands of FREE applications to choose from...so we really ARE losing out because we dont have to pay for apps! I dont know why I didnt see it before! Im gonna go buy some software that I could get for free right now!
Mark Anderson @ Aug 9th 2008 7:11PM
@who?
So basically you'd thought you'd cover your grossly stupid and incorrect assumptions with a stream of pointless rhetoric?
OK.
Christian Walters @ Aug 9th 2008 9:06PM
back @supersexyerik, sure, apps for WinMo phones and handhelds may not all be professional, but THE most important fact is compatibility, and shear availiblity. There are hundreds of thousands of WinMo apps out now, the majority of which are quite well done and free, or with a donation suggested if you like them. And as far as compatability is concerned, Windows Mobile will automatically scale whichever app you run on it to fit your screen size, and most of the time, your button or key layout aswell. So your accusation about apps needing to be made specifically for a certain device does not hold water my friend. Next argument please!
Conor Kirkpatrick @ Aug 10th 2008 7:03PM
@Mark
And you said that because you have no response.
@both of you
"Stop Whining!"
matt @ Aug 9th 2008 4:58AM
Why buy a device you have to fix in the first place?
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 5:16AM
So installing a new program is the same as fixing a device?
Oh, god! My computer, cell phone, iPod, -all broken! Why didn't I see it before?!
Ellianth @ Aug 9th 2008 10:10AM
I agree with you, but it does count as fixing when you gotta jump through hoops to use features that should have already been there.
Levi @ Aug 9th 2008 11:14AM
Cause the web browser pwns, and the original iPhone data plan was much cheaper than any other data plan with unlimited internet usage.
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 1:01PM
@Ellianth
Who decides which features 'should have been there' and which ones can be left out? I think we can all appreciate the varied features in the smartphone market, as that is the reason people buy different phones, differing capabilities. If the iPhone had everything, it would give Apple a monopolistic hold on the smartphone market, so I am glad that they don't offer everything on that one device!
Doc @ Aug 9th 2008 5:08AM
I will also miss Ryan Block, good luck man!
As for the update and Pwnage Tool, not flawless but close;)
I always love to see the Apple haters out there. Just confirms who the followers are and how happy I am not be one of them!
iPhone bitch
applehater? @ Aug 9th 2008 12:15PM
Apple haters huh? I guess I would fall into that category, though I think we are incorrectly called such. I hate the whole concept that apple puts something in a "cute" package, charges an outrageous price for something that is already out there and people flock to it, even though it doesn't work as well, or have all the functions unless you pay more for an app. I guess they are the most brilliant people in the world because they also get a blind following. So everyone that has something to do with this model enrages me, the consumer and the smack dealer.
Aaron @ Aug 9th 2008 12:33PM
@Applehater
I bought an iPhone primarily because of the browser and the UI, which are unparalleled IMO. But if you think it "doesn't work as well" then I'll wait for you to identify a better option. I spent a couple of years dealing with the daily crashes of Windows Mobile (and the horrid UI) and then a year or so with a Blackberry which couldn't load a real web page or render HTML emails. I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you imply the iphone doesn't work as well, but my experience has been anything but that.
nova62400 @ Aug 9th 2008 2:13PM
@ applehater?
becoming enraged at someone or something because it is successful is the definition of a hater
Bryan @ Aug 9th 2008 5:21PM
@applehater
so 200 dollars is an outrageous price i guess.
Ricky G @ Aug 10th 2008 1:12AM
Genius, did you happen to factor in that extra 30 dollars a month for 2 years. Guess not.
Don't jump on my back, i don't hate apple at all. I have an ipod touch and a macbook pro penryn. I'm just stating, that perhaps if your going to defend a company, that people protect like its Jesus Christ the Saviour, then have some truth in your words.
Hexing @ Aug 9th 2008 5:08AM
No.
who? @ Aug 9th 2008 5:33AM
Possibly. What are we talking about again?
Jonathan Worrel @ Aug 9th 2008 5:15AM
Yay for firmware 2.0.1. + 3G + Cydia!
*downloads*
TehFRAG @ Aug 9th 2008 6:21AM
Only problem is Cydia is not working for a lot of people on the 2.0.1 firmware using Pwnage 2.0.2. For me and others it starts then crashes back to the main screen.
Kurian @ Aug 9th 2008 5:17AM
Why is everyone talking about Ryan Block?

Carl @ Aug 9th 2008 5:19AM
Soo.. wont work with the iPhone 3G 2.0.1 yet? Does anyone know if there EVER is gonna be a unlock tool for iPhone 3G? :S
Mike Cerm @ Aug 9th 2008 5:49AM
Eventually, there will be. Obviously it's not as easy as the older models, and with the required activation at the time of purchase anyway, demand is somewhat less for a 3G unlock. But they are working on it, so it will eventually happen.
I also wonder what's keeping them from getting the firmware from a country where Apple is required to sell unlocked phones, and just distributing that. I'm sure that there are smarter people than me who know why that is not feasible, but it certainly seems like it would be. Theoretically, it should just be as easy as doing a factory restore with a jailbroken, foreign firmware.
Carl @ Aug 9th 2008 5:53AM
Yeah well I got mine in Sweden but because of the stupid lock I cannot use it where I live in Malaysia. So Right now its just an "i" I guess, without the phone T_T
PRATUL d APPLE FANBOY @ Aug 9th 2008 5:31AM
