Intel: oh yeah, and we're calling Nehalem Core i7
Just an FYI to the CPU geeks in the house: if you've been following Nehalem, you can officially start calling it Core i7 (which means that it's not getting the code name we all thought it'd carry: Core 3 Trio Quad Duo Pro Extreme Edition). Everyone else can feel free to continue scratching their head.

I guess Apple has something to do with the new name.
NO! it doesn't, it really really doesn't - STOP SAYING IT!
Dr Zoidberg +1 and I completely agree! In addition to the fact this "i = Apple" comment has already been posted many times.
i think the new logo looks freakin sweet
says the guy with the shiny, gradient blue avatar
I agree
coicidence?!! Will we be running windows 7 on some new i7 proscessors?? from intel to MS with love.. if only osx had som 7 thing somewhere...
Forget it, Nehalem is so 2009. Lets talk of Sandy Bridge now.

I would like to see Sandy Bridge nekkid.
OMG...apple is going to be pissed. No one dare use the almighty i.

i7 is the itanium class and it is very expensive!
Now that makes sense.
They should just go back to the x86 numbering scheme and stop this marketing bullshit. Everyone knows marketing is nothing but lipstick on lies.
They can't! The trademark laws no longer permit them to trademark numbers (They tried that for Pentium, and they couldn't trademark "i586", so they had to use "Pentium")
I don't mean to be rude, but whoever is in charge of naming processors at Intel should be shot. I echo the sentiments of many previous posters: pick a naming convention and stick with it. At least for more than one interation, m'kay, Intel?
the i stands for itanium architecture
still a dumb name no matter what its named after.
No no no. They should have named it the Core e-Hame system. Complete with overclocked personality due to cocaine use in the 80's.
Yea, the "i" doesn't suprise me. As others have said, they've used the "i" for a long time. Even the 386, 386 and 486 were actually i286, i386 and i486. I still have promotional material from when I sold them new.
"Core 3 Trio Quad Duo Pro Extreme Edition" - Lmao
"Core 3 Trio Quad Duo Pro Extreme Edition" - Lmao
Maybe it's a take on Roman numerals (IV = 4, etc), in that it will have 6 cores...
*fap* *fap* *fap* *fap*
Hmmmm....methinks it's time for AMD to step up to the plate and put Intel in it's place. Nothing like a 8,000,000+ CPU to compete with the i7!
The following is an excerpt:
According to an Intel spokesperson, the Core i7 identifier applies to the initial family of processors, "Bloomfield", due to be launched in Q4 2008. According to Intel representatives, the moniker "Core i7" does not have a deeper meaning.

Found by Googling "Core i7".
