LG's planet-saving W2252TE LCD tested
Here's the fact: LG's claims of significant power savings with the W2252TE 22-inch LCD are no lie. As it turns out, the monitor sips even less juice than LG claimed, a mere 19.4 watts -- less than half of its Dell and Acer counterparts. The folks at SmartPlanet also found the display to perform "above average," and pack all the relevant features you'd expect on a modern LCD. LG doesn't win any green points for its completely traditional plastic and non-recycled cardboard packaging, and since there's no word on price yet, we're just going to have to assume the W2252TE will carry a price premium relative to its power saving prowess, but maybe that's just us being pessimistic. It should be hitting shelves next month.

grull27 @ Aug 11th 2008 6:33PM
I don't like Vista but the Vista Aero theme would show off the quality much more than the XP Silver Theme.

Between this display and an Atom CPU Eee Box, that's a pretty power effect desktop.
22.3 Watts at peak CPU usage Eee Box
19.4 Watts for this display
41.7 Watts total (not counting speakers)
Nice!
iofthestorm @ Aug 11th 2008 7:09PM
That's less wattage than a light bulb!
Wolfticket @ Aug 11th 2008 7:45PM
...then hook it up to a 1000 watt speaker system.
Chris @ Aug 11th 2008 6:49PM
No thanks, I'm sticking with my Samsung T220 even if it kills the planet a little faster it does it with style.
hank94jp @ Aug 11th 2008 6:49PM
It's a Green Screen! Haha, get it!?
...sorry guys, I couldn't help it.
Gfxlonghorn @ Aug 11th 2008 7:03PM
Yeah but can you pick this monitor up for $180? If we run this thing 210 hours a day and save 20 watts per hour for 365 day, we would only save $7.30 a year at 10 cents per kwh
waterboy99troop @ Aug 12th 2008 7:17PM
where do you live that has 210 hours in a day?...
rv @ Aug 11th 2008 7:19PM
19.4/110 = .17A
?
DChen @ Aug 11th 2008 7:28PM
erm...
p=I V
so surely its 110/19.4 = 5.6... A ?

andres @ Aug 11th 2008 7:29PM
I = V/R
kk @ Aug 11th 2008 7:38PM

Yes you are mistaken, the formula is correct but the rearrange was wrong.
rv is right..

when the iphone gets a 22 inch screen that doubles as a monitor, call me.
otherwise SHUT UP!
DChen @ Aug 11th 2008 7:43PM
hmm... 22" on a iphone...
not really a phone then is it...
more a HUGE tablet thats both impractical yet stylish...

Ryan @ Aug 11th 2008 7:52PM
for some reason that picture makes the monitor look huge to me -- almost like an LCD TV
phanbouy @ Aug 11th 2008 8:10PM
DChen wins the award for first person to ever imply a practical purpose for MC Hammer pants.

iPhone sips man juice?

I bought this model for $280 a week ago in Korea.
At least in Korea, W2252TE models with silver plastic parts at the bottom (as you see in the picture above) are not for retail.
"Officially", It's available only for local pc shops to be bundles with pc's.
There are also W2252TE with white plastic parts, for retail.
But surprisingly, those are tagged $100 higher, making it $380.

I spend more per month of publicly educating other peoples' kids than I do on my own household electricity. As such, I do not have to think 'green' when only 55% of the county students finish, and only 70% finish period.
At least I get a better lifecycle with energy-consumer electronics. I guess you get what you do not pay for.

@ phanbuoy
I think maybe Hammer tweaks it to sound more like "Oh my Lard"? Thats what I remember singing...then I would stop and wonder how a man who moves around on stage so much could be fat.
