Its Quadband GSM, so GSM and EDGE will work in the US (The US uses 850 and 1900). 3G, I do not know and someone with better knowledge will have to guide you. I'm waiting for a device with 3G for T-Mobile since i'm satisified with my TyTn II.
it would work for phone calls and i think EDGE internet, but ATT 3G would not work. still a good deal if 3G isn't important to you.
Don't need to think too much about the price. These sort of phones will be free with a 2-year contract, at least that has been the case in Australia. They like to inflate the price so that contract appears very attractive. And the operators like to sell the contract, not the phones.
It would seem that it has to stay reasonable (with contract) if it comes to AT&T. I have the _old_ iPhone, and think that the usability has drastically increased with the 2.0 software - the addition of the App Store has been great. I still want to be able to type on my device though, which is what makes the Touch Pro so attractive to me - just not $1,000 attractive. If it is released over $400, it's "Hello 3G iPhone!' for me.
Also, I predict that Sony pulls a move like releasing the X1 late and at the $1000 price point - ensuring that nobody with any common sense buys one.
Not that it makes it much cheaper, but only UK residents must pay VAT, though, if you are going to import it to the states, you'd have to pay shipping, which isn't cheap.

OUCH!
For the HTC Touch Pro
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another one bites the dust, eh
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

Well, I was going to spend $1,000 on the I Am Rich application, but now that the App Store has pulled it... might as well buy a better phone.
Erik, you are an idiot. Spec wise the phone is much better than this 'phone' you are alluding too and if you pay this unlocked price you don't have to pay $30 a month internet and could easily put it on T-mobile for less etc... its about choosing your network.
Also this phone will be available with contract I assume from most all of the UK's network (I see Orange has it, and Vodafone etc will also get it) and you have choices better than o2 (which this phone you speak of is locked to) which oddly is the UK's worst 3G network. The contract price will vary on how many minutes you use and thus what plan you get. When I lived in the UK, I got the first Windows Mobile phone ever, the Orange SPV for a mere $60 with a year contract while I lived there. Nokia N95 costs alot (probably same price in the UK) unlocked as well, but is always almost free with contract and is Europe's best selling phone.
Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with UK cell practices, but don't they subsidize phones over there?
We'd see these kinds of prices too if our carriers didn't subsidize phones.
Phones are subsidised with contracts. This is WITHOUT one. With one the costs will plummet
No Android = no HTC Pro
Fail!
Android is installable on the ancient HTC Touch -- I don't see any reason why it won't be the same deal with Touch Pro! :D
@ Topaz
It's only installable as a "just because we can" concept. It's almost 1% functional. But when it because truly open, I'm sure someone will tweak it and offer it customized for each device.
That would be nice.
But again, by that time, next-gen WM7 devices will be waltzing around with fancy NVidia graphics. Next year will be really interesting to watch. Even the iPhone will need a major makeover to stand in the face of the expected competition.

The iPhone is no more a smartphone than a Hyundai is a sports car, or something like that.
What with the iPhone sorely lacking most of the hardware and software capabilities readily available to the Touch Pro, the iPhone need not even be mentioned in the same sentence as this phone, it's simply nowhere near worthy enough.
Hope it becomes cheaper when it hits Verizon. I love HTCs phones, hopefully I'll be able to get this one cheaper than a grand to replace my Apache
sweet moses can you just have a stroke already?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/03/telus-announces-htc-touch-diamond-for-a-summer-release/
I didn't see anyone mention that Telus is going to be selling the Diamond for $150 on a three year contract. So how much more will the Pro be for the keyboard, a hundred bucks? Come on let's not all go crazy because some British company is trying to stick it to their customers.
Nice find.
3 million is nothing.
Nearly 20 million WM devices have already been sold thus far through the first half of 2008, and for that matter, Nokia has sold what, like 200 million phones?
The iPhone is merely a drop in a market that contains an ocean-worth of phones out there.
> -apple's stock is way up
of course... because apple's making lots of money selling its toys
> -3 million iphones sold
Most of them in US...
> -iphone software dominates the market
in US...
US isnt 'The World'
yawn... ;)
I actually own a HTC Diamond here in Romania.. Have had it for at least 2 weeks now. The interface is really cool and well organized, but without a restart every 2 days or so it gets really slughish. The Opera Browser is really good, although not as good as the iPhone one. It can turn to landscape mode if you hold your phone sideways, but the zoom function is not very precise. When calls come in, it takes about 3-4 seconds until you actually see that someone is calling you and the phone starts ringing. The keyboard, although it looks small at first, is surprisingly good and i get a preety nice accuracy when typing with it. Unfortunately, because of the browser, there isn't much difference between 3G+ and my 20 mb Cable conn over wifi. Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone, and preety responsive in normal circumstances, but when compared to the iphone it's slow.. About the iphone, HTC preety much got a lot of inspiration from Apple's star device. Like the low speaker volume, call interface, scrolling technique (which I hate, it's slow and you can't 'flip' like on iPhone), look and feel of certan menus, like communications menu (same on/off switch to the right of wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode), same method of flipping through photos and an youtube app. However, the 3.2 MP camera with autofocus is truly a step up from the 2 MP disaster on the iphone and the phone's small size and interesting shape (i actually enjoy holding it in my hand, as opposed to iPhone) certainly makes up for most if the unfortunate mishaps. All in all, a good phone, but could use some tweaks especially in the performance area to make it a truly great phone
Radu, I would strongly suggest upgrading the ROM to 1.93 - I did, and the Diamond has become very fast.
Just remember to back up your call log and SMS/MMS (outlook doesn't do it for you) with PIM Backup, it's free.
Just saying hello ALL this is the first time i have posted on this website. One that I have read religiously every morning for the past year. And also to say my HTC Touch pro is ordered and probably arriving tomorrow morning.
P.S. I love it when us brits get cool stuff before the states as it so rarely happens. Can;t wait
@Erik
Technically you are the one trolling, since it was your off topic post, and we, the ones responding to your comment, are the catch.
It's alright, I don't expect much from someone who gleefully bought the I Am Rich App.
Hope you like the graphics of that spinning jewel. I hear it is totally, like, worth a grand from the posters at applefanforum.
Just bought the Tocuh Pro, touch flo 3d here i come!
