Elephantine BlackBerry Bold promo kit arrives for Rogers
We understand the need to catch eyes these days, and while Rogers will certainly not be the first nor last to promote a new piece of kit with an obscenely large version of said kit, this one just takes brobdingnagian marketing to a new plateau. The absolutely gigantic Rogers Bold launch kit includes a plethora of Bold flyers, informational pamphlets and all sorts of other goodies that'll be handed out to prospective buyers shortly. The real question is: who gets to take this thing home once the buzz dies down?

apa @ Aug 13th 2008 1:26PM
They also have the huge iphone 3g version in some of their store.
Andrew @ Aug 13th 2008 2:36PM
They do. I'm surprised the giant Bold got attention but the giant iPhone didn't, as much as Engadget loves the iPhone. (And I love mine too dammit!)
But, I wonder if this giant bold is more than the giant iPhone was. The giant iPhone is just an LCD screen hooked up to something like a Mac Mini (not certain).
Actually, looking closer at the pics in the read link, the giant Bold is just cardboard.

This is nothing new. I'm not sure about other carriers, but Blackberry has been sending oversized cardboard Blackberries to Rogers for years. The oversized Blackberries were boxes that contained marketing and promo material like pamphlets, pens, paperweights, etc. I believe the first model they did this with was the gray 7100 (http://www.widgetsandgadgets.com/images/blackberry-7100-02.jpg)
If any readers work in retail wireless, hit up your Blackberry rep for some merch. They send GREAT stuff. I once asked my rep, who was based in Toronto, if he could send me some swag for a golf tournament my Rogers dealership was hosting. He sent me a bag with about 500 very nice pens, a box with about 100 sunglasses holders, a carton of golfballs, a few windbreakers, and nicest of all, some beautiful golf towels. All Blackberry branded.

Just doing something different these days is probably making a market already :-) so whats next? and by the way, what BIG has made it BIG in the market already? So many possibilities. After minimizing the size of our gadgets, here comes a new approach to make some BIG(?) money. awesome!!!
