The latest in
nanowire research has a crew at the University of California, Berkeley creating the very first integrated circuit "that uses nanowires as both sensors and electronic components." By utilizing a so-called "simple" printing technique, the researchers were able to create a batch of uniform circuits that could one day serve as image sensors. According to Ali Javey, an electrical-engineering professor at the institution, the goal is to "develop all-nanowire sensors" which could be used in a wide array of applications, and the benefit of using 'em is their exceptionally high level of sensitivity. In due time, the gurus would like to make everything on the circuit printable, though we have this strange feeling we won't be seeing any actual results from all of this for years to come.
Didn't we all laugh at the silly thing called "Transistor" few decades ago.
Man what a nice joke it was back then. PCs that you could fit in one room? Ahaha.
Sure sure, we have PCs that can fit in one room... mission accomplished.
Instead of making things smaller, why don't you folks get off your asses and invent my moving sidewalks, jetpacks, and hovercars for god's sake.
The Jetsons are laughing at us!
1. Moving sidewalks (pavements..) - Done, it's called a flat escalator!
2. Jetpacks - Done plenty of times!
3. Hovercraft have existed for a few decades now, and it's possible to build one in your back garden.
And yep, we laughed at just about everything when it first comes out. "The Internet" it'll never take off, who'd invest money in that? "Google" that's a stupid name for a company, what the hell do they do?
I don't consider the things at airports "sidewalks."
Sidewalks are the place where I put my trash bins and where my dog craps.
@High Ranks make you sterile
So we all can look like the Humans in Wall-E?
no thanks! I'll stick with my all-nanowire sensors to tell me im tired from walking. =)
I can't respond to that because I haven't seen Wall-E. My rule of thumb is that my movies have to have actual dialogue in them.....
...or pr0n
I think its officially time for the grand opening of "Engadget nano".
I think its oficially time for the grand opening of "Engadget nano".
I second that.
I second that.
I deserved that.
Ali Javey is a hack.
