Video: Sensacell's interactive floor shows trail of LED footprints
Far from being the first LED-infused floor we've seen hipsters and hippies break dance and boogie down on (respectively), Sensacell's latest contraption still manages to stand out by bringing back memories of when mouse trails really were the coolest thing about an operating system. Flashbacks aside, the installation -- which is currently at the entrance to the Comunitat Valenciana in Spain -- possesses over 1,000 interactive modules, each of which include capacitive sensors and a LED lighting system. The integrated tech enables it to recognize when someone is walking over it and consequently light up as if to leave an eye-catching LED trail of their path. Can you imagine how many hours days you could entertain an ageless kid with this? Video after the jump.

They've had these in second life for quite some time now...bout time real life caught up.
/sarcasm (so no one gets confused)
Someone make a rollaway mat version, because my cardboard is getting old.
If you're interested in this, check out the impressions you can burn right into the Microsoft Surface unit, using the Shadow Box app. It's from On10:

If you like this, check out Shadow Box app for Microsoft Surface. It does a burn in impressions of objects that touch it like hands, playing cards, and even money. You can also make pictures with it.

Billie Jeans, Not My Lover!!!
Your avatar looks like it's taking a secret poo.
BILLIE JEANS?!
LULZ!
Exactly, and that's why I want it in my house.
Awesome now I don't have to pretend the floor is glowing when I do my Billie Jean.
Billy Jean... she's not my lover........
looks like they only light up in 3x3 squares...
that's unfortunate, it would be just that much cooler if every light was independent.
I wonder how much a DIY version would cost
That's not Michael Jackson! That's John Travolta...
It's funny how you can tell how old a poster is from the comment given to colored lights in the floor. Those born after 1980 reference Michael Jackson back when he was black. And those born before 1979 reference John Travolta back when he was dressed in nothing but white.
'81 but close enough to remember :)
On a scale of 1 to practical, I'm going to have to give this a 2.
what does your avatar mean? By the way you're all singing it wrong.
Billie Jean is not my Lover, She's just a girl who says that I am the one. Unh
Would you give it more points if it ran the Game of Life with the input instead of just fading away?

@Fergus Ray Murray
I would be forced to give it an 11, if that were true. Kickass idea.
The only 'useful' application for something like this would be the lanes at the bowling alley after midnight during Cosmic Bowling.
Snake is going to be pissed off when he tries to sneak in.
That would be the best thing in the world.
stupid.. really stupid.. when the entire world is trying to decrease the carbon emission, someone finds an useless way to add to the carbon content..
I'd say light-up floors are the least of this planet's concerns, man. Choose your battles.
im guna reduce your carbon!!!
Your stupid reply and my witty reply made more of a carbon input than this floor so stfu
Hey at least the janitor can tell really easily if he misses a spot...
Hmm... Effective countermeasure for those new invisibility cloaks...
SOMETHING like I was going to say.
Better hope this isn't installed and a murderer chases you into a building!
By the way...this would be an effective way to make your dog run in the house to the point of having a heart attack. Lovely.
the best part is the cleaner
*swoop* *swoop*
it probs wasn't even dirty...
Scary that the technology could probably be easily tweaked to remember everywhere you stepped, and when you stepped there, as long as you were traveling on its surface.....
won't someone please just lie down and bust out a snow angel for me.
That sounds perverted on so many levels.
Yah, I though of Billie Jean as well.
i thought of the energy bridge thing on halo 1
Wow what will they come up with next? A urinal that lights up in the spot where you hit it?
Don't they already have those? I mean they had the ones where you steer a car by aiming too.
This one is better, made by Lightscape

i wonder how many people walk over this with out even realizing that they are walking on an LED surface.
Looks like people are leaving a stream of evaporating crap on the floor.
is it me or is there no point to this technology?
if i want imprints of my foot, i can just go to the beach, or wait till it snows...
it doesent need one! gah! you people!
Micro upskirt cams instead of leds.....or better yet one inside each of the led squares. or how about someone do the WORM!
They need to increase the resolution. Otherwise we wont get the perfect Billie Jean and don't make it weight -pressure- sensitive as no one will accept to walk over it, at least here in the US.

Engadget why I can't delete double posts D:
This is just thousands of tiny Chinese Fou drummers.
no more sneaking around.
I wanna see someone moon walk across it!
