Astro's A40 Audio System headset detailed on video
We're closing in on one year since we first heard about Astro's A40 gaming headset, and for those of you who've held off in anticipation of these changing your life, here's a few more details you'll surely want to know. Astro founder Brett Lovelady sat down with Core77 in order to talk about the company and the headset in detail, and he gives us a first hand look at what the A40s are all about. We'll warn you, he does ramble on for a solid four minutes, but it's good stuff if that's what you're into. Check the vid just after the break.

Best headset I've ever purchased. Shits all over SteelSeries in terms of audio quality and overall construction. The only issues I have is that it could extend a bit more, have a longer cord, and It MILDLY suffers the GSM buzz problem. It's probably happened twice in the three months.

Wow I wish I had A40's.

Is it just me or is that guy a little burpy?

coming from a professional call of duty player, best headset I have ever owned. Destroys the turtle beaches by FAR.

"professional call of duty player"
You put that on your CV?

I'd bet if you tried the Turtle Beach EarForce X4, you'd eat those words.

Mine got here yesterday. The packaging is a bit obscene, you'll see when the pics get put up. After playing for a couple hours with them last night...yeah, the blow everything else out of the water. I've tried a few, and now I am set.

if interested in cheaper headphones, invest in the $70 Grado SR60. Supposedly has audiophile qualities for entry-level price. Reviews have been more than stellar as well.

MLG started endorcing these headsets a few months ago... They're pretty expensive, but I've heard nothing but good things about them (other than price). If I had the money, I'd buy a pair... in black, of course. The white headset that they showed in the video look kind of funky, but the black set looks very nice.
RIFRAF @ Aug 14th 2008 1:18PM
I think I'll be ordering a pair soon. The only thing that worries me is how heavy they feel after wearing them for a few hours.
Nuhaus @ Aug 14th 2008 2:30PM
I can take or leave the actual headphones, (Magnetic pieces for different logos? Why not just use stickers? Wait, we already do) but being able to mix in different channels and control the volume of each would be convenient. Using Teamspeak and in game VOIP would be much more simple. Is the mixer available separately?
Paul @ Aug 14th 2008 4:53PM
Yes, but for $150 USD and the Headset by itself is $200USD, the whole package (Headset+MixAmp) is $250USD. Its cheaper in the long run just to get the entire package package
Whubbsie @ Aug 14th 2008 8:42PM
Wish they would just hurry up and start shipping internationally
Kyle @ Aug 17th 2008 7:19AM

Jace @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:10PM
Dan, your an idiot.
Ship internationally please...
Turtle Beach = Wireless.
Wireless = unreliable and easily disrupted, also low durability.
Wired = reliable, high durability.
Nobody say: "What if you need to move?". WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BE MOVING AROUND WHILE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME!?
Anyway, if you wanna get up its as easy as disconnecting "ONE" cable which is right next to you.
