Revo's new PICO hybrid radio pairs DAB and WiFi with great success
DAB... DAB... that's that digital radio thing, right? But it's not from a satellite, huh? Well, whatever. Revo's new PICO hybrid radio packs some internet radio over WiFi, so you don't have to move to some crummy country like the UK just to listen to predictably-programmed 80's music and cloying chatter. Revo's little unit is portable, gets 12 hours to a charge, and works with DAB, DAB+, FM and WiFi. It'll be available in September for £169.95 (about $3,180,000 USD).

3 billion dollars is asking a lot
You fail. Epic like. That is 3.18 Million Dollars.
Is it just me, or has the posts of late taken a more hostile/ sarcastic/ rabid/ slightly insane tone......
Must be the new guy...
US $3 million is really expensive for this.
You're right, 3 billion would be too much 3 million isn't too bad.
$3,180,000 holly crap i dont have that money. but yea guess its a typo with 4 to many 0's
no... i thought it was obvious it was a joke on the exchange rate
@maveric101 - agreed, but shame they time it at the point when the us$ is finally picking up - 11 days straight of rises against the gb£ - from 2.00 to about 1.85 in under a month. ouch
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7562567.stm
Looks like you got slaughtered by the exchange rate XD
Yeah, wouldn't that be 317 US dollars? Your conversion is teh suck!
it's a troubled US economy joke fool
Why is the UK 'crummy'? Isn't that a bit offensive?
There are crumbs everywhere. It's all the biscuits we eat? Something.
The UK's radio is pretty bad, unless you live in London and have a good tuner. Our main one is BBC radio 1, and since it's results day over here in schools they've been banging on about how they didn't get any A-Levels and they did ok, in the most patronizing and disconnected manner.
I'm actually from the UK and think we've got an excellent selection of radio stations. At least all the BBC stations aren't constantly churning out horrible, cringeworthy commercials.
So the Pilgrim Fathers should have stayed home with their culture then?
@mymaclife: nope, glad to be rid of them & their god-bothering ways.
I live in the UK, in my perspective it's better than America...
Look at me, I'm an Engadget commenter who can't pick up on sarcasm.
LOLWTFBBQ @ 3.16 Gazillion.
Crummy eh? Them there be fightin' words :)
"predictably-programmed 80's music and cloying chatter"
6Music is awesome and almost exactly not that.
Also, if you don't need the DAB or battery, you can have this http://www.revo.co.uk/digital-radio/revo-blik-wifi.php for under £100.
Crummy country? I would say our radio stations are a helluva lot better than the ones here in the US, with an eclectic music choice and quality talk... hell even the pirate stations are better than WXSHITPOP96 FM and its country bollocks....
I thought 96.X being absolute crap was a local thing! Apparently, it's crap everywhere!
With commercial free satellite radio coming down to ~$6 / month in the US who needs crappy local radio stations anyway.
@Blueforce
Where are you getting satellite radio for $6/month?
Just interested....
Well...
Robert Elms is REALLY tedious to listen to, over time. Here's a Note & Quee-wy for you:
It's a bus-line!! How exciting can it be, and haven't you exhausted them all by now? Sheesh!
I like Vanessa Feltz though. She's pleasant to listen to.
DAB?.. DAB?.. DAB!! If you don't want to move to a country like UK, the Swedes and Danes is waiting for you ;)
Looks like the J&R Discount ($3,179,700.01) is good deal then...
Your price: $299.99
Temporarily Out of Stock
Now, if all of those UK folks would stop exploiting the crummy exchange rate, maybe they could keep a few of these in stock.
well, back to the salt-mine!!
Jericho is dead get over it!!!
Is Jericho really dead? I want to see post-nuclear war Texas!
Ya eh? That's a lot of money! Holy wah!
Fourteenth!
For that type of cash I'd expect it to be an Apple product.
No way, it has to be designed in California before you can call it an apple product.
WiFi?
mms stream supported?
$317 is still way too much for a radio...
"crummy country"??
It cannot be that bad if it has a conversion rate of >$18711 to the £1
:)
Kindly do not refer to the UK as crummy. And kindly do some research before you collectively cast aside the integrity of UK DAB. There's some bloody good stuff on there.
Oh and readers, kindly switch on your sarcasm detection.
"you don't have to move to some crummy country like the UK just to listen to predictably-programmed 80's music and cloying chatter"
Hmm. I'm guessing that the author of this horseshit is one of the 89% of Americans who've never left the US...
(If you're not European disregard this rant)- It's really easy for Europeans to bitch about Americans never leaving the country on vacation or whatever when it's a matter of hours DRIVING to leave your country's border.
Sorry, but a friend of a friend lives in Germany and he bitches about that all the time. North America has some of the most beautiful sights in the world, and many different cultures. Granted, it doesn't come close when compared to the rest of the world, but it's about 3k$ less...
Chris, I'm not bitching about Americans who never leave their country. I don't have a problem with that, it's their business.
I'm bitching about Americans who never leave their country, and yet still think that they are experts on how 'crummy' the rest of the world is.
If anyone wants to say some negative things about the UK, then fine (hell, I'll help them out - aspects of this country piss me right off). But opinions should be formed *after* bothering to visit. Otherwise the result sounds like a bunch of lame old nationalist chest-beating.
I guess that's fair. :-)
Sorry everybody, I just assumed of all countries to make a baseless joke about, the UK would have the best sense of humor about it. Apparently I misjudged my target by a few thousand miles.
Unrelated: I spent a couple days over there a year ago, watched a game of "cricket" on the "telly," got my hair "cut." It was all very fun.
Umm...the English aren't exactly know as big "world travellers" or being cosmopolitan, multi-lingual folk either. We get it from YOU. We're your children, after all. Be fair!
Thanks, JohnnyBoy, for dispelling the worn-out stereotype of British people having a sense of humour. For too long, we've put up with this kind of prejudice.
Epic Fail on Paul's part both of his jokes were so stupid they came across more offensive than funny. Try letting us know whats up with tech and leave the jokes to the comedians. I already had to stop reading shashdot cause the dolts over there couldn't leave their personal politics out of posts.
There's a lot of sensitive Brits commenting today. But from my experience with Brits, they wouldn't take offense at that - they'd just sling it back. Probably French or something - or jet setting Americans that think they have some insight to international relations because they, like, ride in airplanes and stuff and they've been places.
> With commercial free satellite radio coming down to ~$6 / month in the US who needs crappy local radio stations anyway.
Aren't you gonna need a new ($150-200-250 who knows how much) radio to do the ala carte thing? You know, like the one's that were mandated by the FCC to be out years ago but still don't exist?
There's no way the "merger" is going to end up saving us money - even with perceived monthly savings, less competition will screw us in the long-term. It always does - ExxonMobil comes to mind.......
what a sexy device
Wow, the first post actually about the device.
Come On Paul Miller! None of that. Our "crummy country" just happens to be home to quite a lot of people. Despite the badly out of date stereotype of the laid back brits who are too polite to complain about anything, we are not all like that and some of us might take a little bit of offense when some yank starts insulting our country.
There was no need for a comment like that. Get with the Banter y'ken! Long Live Scotland.
you should use this converter next time: http://www.google.co.uk/ig/directory?q=currency&hl=en&root=%2Fig&dpos=top&url=www.pixelmedia.nl/gmodules/ucc.xml
Actually I'm not sure what my fellow Brits are complaining about, saying the UK is crummy is actually being kind. This place these days is a shivhole!
Although we do have some quality radio stations on DAB,the criticisms on programming were obviously directed towards internet radio.
If you don't like it F Off! I'm sure we won't miss you.
UK Radio is awesome, we get everything covered by the BBC, and if commercial stations want us to sit through their ads then they've got to up there game to something much better than the BBC.
Fish n Chips (and mushy peas) for the win!
Engadget, I find your constant stream of jokes regarding the current state of the U.S. economy to be both shallow and pedantic.
UK? Crummy? Awwww... jealousy will get you now where.. I mean come on.. We are far advance when it comes to Mobile network, and our DAB, that's digital radios to guys from other side of the pond, I mean you guys are still listening to FM quality, while we enjoy perfect digital broadcast here with hundred of stations.. It'll catch on other side of the pond too, like 3G networks in Mobile, give it another six or so years... Hehheee..
They guy is a total moron. The funny thing is, the whole world thinks his country is a total joke, full of morons that voted a total moron of a president in for a second term.
You can report the idiot here: http://www.weblogsinc.com/report/
Engadget: You've been told before about DAB and some of the radio damned good stations it offers. Hell, you can check this out from you desk by listening in over tinternet- though yeah, BBC lose some points here for steaming at a lower bit rate than some other stations. But seriously, if you don't like the music on 6 Music, you shouldn't be allowed to own any audio kit at all, let alone review it.
Maybe you can tell us why DAB radio receivers are still highly priced after ten years, when we're so used to the price of every other gadget halving every eighteen months? Surely they should be nearly as cheap as FM sets by now? How much can an extra bloody DAC be when there is one in every cheap discman/budget mp3 player?
Those must be zimbabwe dollars, oh wait then it should be some quadrillion dollars!!!
Paul Miller - You utter idiotic prick. Think before you type eh?
Have a nice day. Your welcome.
Jesus... on one hand, we have people apparently unable to detect sarcasm in "£169.95 (about $3,180,000 USD)". On the other, a gaggle of my countrymen... well, apparently, boys... throwing hairdresser hissy fits at the suggestion that the UK is "crummy". Not exactly the spirit that brought us through the Blitz, is it, children? FFS...
Paul Miller, I would like to apologise on behalf of my country and my species.
