Sony ready to debut WHDI with the DMX-WL1T
Details around the wireless edition of Sony's Bravia Internet Link kit -- most notably peeped during CES -- are coming into focus. Using that WHDI tech the kids are so into these days, this system is for Sony's Digital Media Extender-equipped HDTVs, and according to Sony Insider will debut for a price between $350 and $500 at the IFA conference in Berlin. Unfortunately, SI's info suggests we may only be spec'd for 1080i streaming of up to 5 feet, a bit less than the 200 foot range originally expected -- for only the fraction of the price of Monster Cables. Punch the read link for the rest of the details on the DMX-WL1T, while the rest of us hope Sony can turn the distance up enough to make it worthwhile.

That looks like something else..
Such as? I'm not really seeing anything phallic in that design. Don't get me wrong, I'm usually one of the first to say that a lamp looks like a dildo or something...but I just don't see it.
Black Nintendo Wii.
Richard, get your head out of the gutter. Seriously! Where do you come up with this stuff?
there is no way in hell someone would put out a wireless device with range less than using it with a cable. 200 feet? 5 feet? someone's gotta clarify here.
I think it looked like the blue-ray player, see the white part?
monster cables : well marketed overpriced garbage.
Monster Cable. Well marketed? Yes. Overpriced? Yes. Garbage? I wouldn't say so. Their cables are probably no better or no worse than any other decent cable out there.
Such is the case with many a shiny gadget. How sad that so many companies capitalize on the naivete of the consumer. Guess that's predictable.
$350-$500 for 1080i video over 5 feet. Their kidding right?
Whoa! Did the comment system just change?
Well, considering that there are nutballs out there that will spend more than that on a "High-End" HDMI cable, I imagine Sony will sell a ton of these.
Holy crap! I just thought of a great product! I can sell 100% "pure" air to these dimwits, so their wireless signal passes through without any disturbances caused by "impurities" in the air. Damn, I'm a genius.
Spiny, I just patented that product. Please cease and desist from ever mentioning my product without my express permission or you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law.
Good day to you sir!
and I just registered the domain name for $5.95
5 feet? That's worthless.
Hello, I'm the author of the linked article and the $350 - 500 was a firm estimate on the price, but there is no word as to if it will be lower and higher. This is merely an assumption from observing Sony's pricing routines for the last decade or so. One must also factor in that this is the first generation of this product, so it is not totally unbelievable to think that this will cost a bit more initially and become cheaper as the technology becomes commonplace.
Prove you're the author. And why wouldn't you have put that in the article?
Yes, 5 feet is useless, give us like 30. Then again, that distance probably can't support video of that quality.
Also, new sign in system? I hope it fixes commenting problems.
Until we get something that can support 1080p, I'm not even considering a system like this.
The 1080i thing isn't that bad. With the exception of sources that generate 1080p content, such as consoles or a computer. blu ray is the only thing that'll give you that quality. Of course, at that pricing people who don't have those things probably wouldn't be too interested in this either. If all you had was an upconverting DVD player and a cable box, 1080i is good enough. And if you have one of those big, cheap 720p plasmas, it's all coming up roses for you. 5 feet is a killer still though.
I like how 1080p is like this superior goal to achieve and it uses ALL THIS DATA
when it really doesn't. HD uses less than 20% of a 100mpbs data connection so why is it hard to make a video device to do it wirelessly?
I swear two posts up there is a Sony wireless router, just use that and a popcorn thing.
I like the new comment upgrades. It's working a little bit better!
Good Job!
I've just tried to install Frontlines- fuel of war on my newly reformatted pc. I get an error that I'm running emulation software.. Which I'M NOT. Come to find out that the disk uses something called SecuROM, That is run by SONY. The 5 foot limit is probably a new effort at DRM and to prevent copyright violations.
Sony and all their crap gadgets can eat my shorts

You guys are slipping, just copying what other sites write. This is not the product you think it is. WHDI is much better than this. Remember that Sony had TWO wireless HD products at CES? One was crappy like this, and the other had WHDI? Well, this is the crappy one.
thats got to be a typo. probably should have said 50
we just saw this at our recent national training here in Canada. Here is what Sony gave us for information:
it is DMX-WL1 Bravia Link Module
- 5ghz band
- limited to about 1.5Gbps so only 1080i video stream
- 20 meter range
- 4 hdmi / 1 component / 1 stereo audio input
- optical audio output
- $800 pricetag CAD in mid October
expensive yes but I know i can sell this in my store. Pretty cool stuff.
