OCZ stays on its game with Core Series V2 SSDs
Mere months after debuting its highly-desirable and smashingly-priced Core Series of SATA II SSDs, OCZ is back for more with the Core Series V2 of 2.5-inch drives. Sizes have been bumped to 30GB / 60GB / 120GB / 250GB, and access times are up to 170MBps read and 98MBps write. OCZ even crammed in a mini-USB port for applying future speed-enhancing firmware updates. No word on price yet, but hopefully OCZ will stay in line with its original Core lineup.

I wonder why the update couldn't be pushed through the data connector?
I think they missed a trick with the usb port. If it could be used to access the hard drive, that would be awesome. Do away with having caddies and power supplies.
Exactly what I was thinking. Make the drive available to connect via USB and it's a slam dunk!
Except that the USB port likely lacks the power to drive the device. Although wth SSD maybe that's not an issue.
Ian, Dude, have you seen USB Powered Hard Drives lately? They're everywhere...
And unless you are still reading that Toms Hardware guide to SSD Power Usage, you'll see they use less power than standard USB powered hard drives...
Am I the only one wondering what happened to the 5.25" bay toaster post?
To looseinthedeuce:
Thanks for the info!
Wow, engadget got that PC toaster post pulled down fast after they found out it was an April Fool's Day joke.
so who's going to step and make this toaster happen man? You could already tell it can be the next big thing. I'd buy one.
First to fail!
You still fail.
Aren't access times in milliseconds and transfer rates in megabytes per second?
Looks like some editors on Engadget are nothing more than that, editors.
j/k paul.
Oh, man! I was excited about that toaster.
Grow up, this 'First!' bullshit is annoying and makes you look like a dumb twat.
I didn't know we were measuring access times in MBps nowadays
If the mini usb can be used as a transfer cable that would be cool, or is it just for firmware updates only. I'd like to hook it up to a pc or soemthing without having an extra adapter.
DO WANT! usb updates, thats crazy. What about linux users/mac users?? Can you imagine a failed update for your harddrive? thats bad news. But i still love the idea, i think ocz could pull it off.
good to hear, the ssd market needs to heat up faster!
I'll stick with paying crazy prices for SLC.
