Mio's Knight Rider GPS now available for pre-order
Dying to get your eyes and fingers all over Mio's GPS-incarnation of KITT? Can't hardly wait to hear the voice of the voice of the original KITT barking directions at you? Well you're in luck, friend. Radio Shack has apparently begun taking pre-orders for the Knight Rider-branded satnav, which they claim will be available to own come September 24th. Ready to go? Get your credit card out, then prepare to be $269.99 lighter and 40 percent nerdier.

I think I need to see some reviews first. While the voice of K.I.T.T. alone makes me want to buy it, in order to excuse my purchase I need to make sure it functions as a GPS correct (not that it matters all that much).

K.I.T.T. GPS "Turn left at the next intersection Michael"
Me "But K.I.T.T. that would lead us straight into a brick wall"
K.I.T.T. GPS "Really Michael, you of all people should know that my molecular bondage shell will protect us"
Me "Wow I didn't know you came with that option! Now my Mazda 3 Sport is unstoppable"
**Turns Left In Excitement**
K.I.T.T. GPS "Wait Mazda? I'm a Pontiac Tra.....

From my research this includes the standard Mio software so it should be able to find places. Though, you can buy a Mio brand new from many places for about $100 and other than the Knight Rider stuff, I don't see anything different in this device. It doesn't even include bluetooth for cell phone interfacing for traffic (disappointing when I was able to pick up a TomTom that could do this for significantly cheaper than the K.I.T.T. GPS).
So this is a very over-priced GPS.... I'm still going to buy it.

Btw: does anyone if there's a way to get this to work in Australia? I'm seriously thinking about plonking down for one of these.
"There's no need to shout Michael, I'm all around you!"
The fanboy in me just got a little younger

Michael, you seem to be driving into the lake. Just as my directions indicated. See you in hell.

Only 40% nerdier?
Kspraydad @ Aug 18th 2008 12:09AM
Exactly...I only buy tech that guarantees a minimum of 50% nerdiness.
lowdef @ Aug 17th 2008 11:58PM
Well I'm so bored I looked it up, and that is none other than an interchange in Fremont, California in case anyone was wondering...
intriguing gps unit though...

Yeah, screw the Mustang. Gotta go with the original Trans Am.
CraigJ @ Aug 18th 2008 12:08AM
The computer is a serious tool, Michael.
Paul Dullford @ Aug 18th 2008 7:38AM
Great! This is the perfect accessory for my homebrew homicidal AI.
Slipstream @ Aug 18th 2008 2:06PM
It has all the up-to-date software from Mio so it is as good as a GPS as it is cool. The voice is from Navtones who do Mr. T, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Hopper and loads of other awesome celebrity voices, so you know it is the real deal.
Hello Michael, where can I take you today?
You have already taken me to heaven K.I.T.T. You've already got me there.

Does anyone know the list of 150 boy and 150 girl names it can say?
Colin @ Aug 19th 2008 1:04AM
The picture really bugs me... there's no McDonalds at Automall and 880... that's a Circuit City back there... seems like an awfully inaccurate GPS...
willy @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:07PM
It's listed online at Best Buy now!! I so want one- god I need a life!
