MST3K crew appears during the Summer Olympics broadcast?
Now look, we're not sure if this was someone's drug-induced fever dream or not, but if it did really go down, it might be the best thing that's happened at the entire 2008 Summer Olympics. According to the Dirty Red Commie, sometime on August 17th between 2:00 PM and 3:13 PM Mountain Time, Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow T. Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000 appeared on NBC's broadcast of the summer games. The DRC says they were simply static -- no hilarious jokes or animated banter -- but cut out during local commercials, giving him the impression that this was coming from the NBC mothership rather than his local station. Apparently a video of the action was set to go up on YouTube, but was "copyright-killed before it was even done processing." If anyone out there on the interblogs is able to confirm this, we'd love to hear from you.
Update: While not exactly proving the authenticity of this, we've now got video of it after the break.
Update: Aaaaaand... the video has been taken down.

I miss MST3K, if for no other reason then they were based on of MN. Too bad they were sunk by their own arrogance.
Neil @ Aug 18th 2008 2:33AM
If you're still pining away for the old MST3K, the cast has got back together (sans bots) as Cinematic Titanic ...

Oughta check out rifftrax, too. Except they take popular, new-ish crap movies and tear them to shreds.
I particularly suggest Spiderman 3, 300, and Transformers for starters.

I loved MST3K. I was shattered when it went off air. Oh well, I still have the memories (and DVD's :D )
ZeroCorpse @ Aug 18th 2008 10:18AM
The Film Crew is also the same group of guys without their robot alter-egos. You can see a number of The Film Crew flicks on Netflix Watch Now.
Yaanu @ Aug 18th 2008 4:49PM
Arrogance my ass, Sci-Fi dropped them.
Richard Glitter @ Aug 19th 2008 3:01PM
Sci-Fi? I seem to recall they were on The Comedy Channel... yes, before it was Comedy Central.
Flashpoint @ Aug 18th 2008 12:33AM
First of all, they are on the wrong side of the screen. They sit in the right chairs.
Secondly, I am certain Crow and Servo would get censored by the PRC when they start shouting about how the CHINESE FEMALE GYMNASTS ARE ONLY 14 YEARS OLD.
Giroro @ Aug 18th 2008 12:44AM

CubeGuy @ Aug 18th 2008 1:47AM
Yes it is. They're on the wrong side during the broadcast.
Meltz @ Aug 18th 2008 2:15AM
12, actually
hello @ Aug 18th 2008 2:43PM
that just emphasizes that 12 year old chinese girls are better than our gymnasts from america...
lol
ps. whats wrong with younger girls being better? I would rather say "good job!" than "you're so young, you suck china!"

Didnt see it. I have DirecTV and went to the race in question... Didnt see anything remotely looking like the guys from MST 3000. Maybe it was local??? Anyone else??
Dualboot @ Aug 18th 2008 1:04AM
All I saw were some very tired Marocans win the 10km run and some poor souls having to run extra laps after all of it was done!
Shawn @ Aug 18th 2008 9:30AM
Where the hell is Maraco? I know of a MOROCCO, but my 6th grade geography teacher never told us about this Maraco.
Dualboot @ Aug 18th 2008 5:03PM
I beg to differ. The country abbreviation is given as MAR and the Europeans called it Marocco, as do a lot of people:
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marocco
As for your 6th grade teacher, I hope he also taught you that different people call countries by different names. I understand the official name may be different, but I don't ask you to call Greece "Ελλάδα" now do I?
Sudo @ Aug 18th 2008 12:43AM
Max Headroom anyone?
dave @ Aug 18th 2008 2:09AM
OMG BlipVerts!
PDong @ Aug 18th 2008 12:52AM

Absolutely awesome.
I'm about to go to bed now, and unfortunately embark on my first day of classes, but this is by far one of the funniest ways to end my Summer.
Peter Zich @ Aug 18th 2008 1:06AM
That. Is. Awesome.
Taylor @ Aug 18th 2008 1:15AM
Watching via DirecTV in Dallas. Didn't see it.
Ben Tobin @ Aug 18th 2008 1:17AM
I'm the guy who posted this. It really did happen, but I've had absolutely no confirmation from anyone else. For obvious reasons, I will now be wearing a foil-lined helmet at all times.
P.S. Omigawd! I was linked by engaget! *swoon*
Josh @ Aug 18th 2008 2:13AM
It didn't happen in Denver.
rock99rock @ Aug 18th 2008 2:34AM
Well was it satellite or cable? Which feed were you watching if you have multiple feeds? What is the broadcast channel of the local station you were watching it on, if that applies? How much could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
EdZ @ Aug 18th 2008 5:49AM
Why not simply post the video to one of the many video sharing sites OTHER than youtube, or one of the many, many file-hosting sites?
xdrive @ Aug 18th 2008 2:26AM
It didn't happen on Time Warner Cable HD in Milwaukee. Everything looked normal here at that exact time in the race and I have a picture to prove it.
Emi Briet @ Aug 18th 2008 2:26AM
For those who say it didn't happen, keep in mind that NBC has 2 feeds in the USA. It may have only affected the Mountain/Pacific feed.
Emi Briet @ Aug 18th 2008 2:30AM
Ok...scratch that theory. Next theory: someone at the local affiliate put it up. Probably added it to the network feed's output stream before it got to the board. That would also produce the effects described, since local ads would come from a different output stream into the board.
rock99rock @ Aug 18th 2008 2:37AM
your second theory is feasible with an upstream Chyron.
If this really happened while i was watching the Olympics, I probably would have shit myself laughing.
Spanky @ Aug 18th 2008 2:28AM

Fenrir @ Aug 18th 2008 3:38AM
Yeah, it was on the HD feed in Montana, and they were on the wrong side of the screen.

What did he have to do to get that seat? :(
brjahu @ Aug 18th 2008 8:31AM
I watched that race and it did not appear on my TV... Wishful thinking or is he just on something?
