More pictures of Dell's Mini Inspiron surface
Dell's Inspiron 910 can't stay hidden, apparently -- check out these new, higher-res shots of the 8.9-inch netbook in the wild. Nothing spectacularly new here -- and we'd still like to see some locked-down specs on this thing -- but ooh, shiny. Check the power adapter after the break.

Is this photo filched?

I want to have its babies.
Whoops! Directed at the comment above ya.
DisplayPort is royalty-free, so shouldn't increase the cost.
It's also compatible with VGA, HDMI, and DVI, via adaptor cables.

It can drive LCD panels directly (i.e. reduces the need for circuit boards in monitors, allowing them to be cheaper and thinner).
And, because the protocol is 2-way packet based, you can use a single cable for transmitting multiple transmissions, plus sound, and USB, webcam, etc.
There's no reason for computer manufacturers to *not* use it in new models (as long as the chipset supports it).

Hmm... before making a purchase I'll have to see the rumored 10"....
But definitely getting a Dell... not an Eee, a Wind or an Aspire.
That's what SHE said.
Doesn't anyone realize that looks exactly like the EEE PC power adapter just in black instead of white?!!!
It doesn't look like the Eee power brick at all, at least not the North-American one I have.
It certainly does look a lot like my Eee 701 power adapter, except (as previously mentioned) the prongs don't fold in unlike the one on the Eee.
This brings me to another question...who is the OEM manufacturing the Dell netbook? could it possibly be Asus?
I am thinking God almighty that these systems will be repaired via depot. I REALLY would not want to try and take one of those things apart. the xx30 is bad enough.
Not that this is important but that looks quite similar to the Eee's power adapter.
Where's the function buttons? ;)
I hope they still come out with a webcam-less version..
oh, and matte finish would be nice :)
It's a simple thing. The right shift key should not be tiny, tucked to the right of the up arrow. All you need to do is drop the arrow keys down a half row, and fit a large shift key on top. This is not hard, nor does it take up significantly more space. If the Aspire One can do it, anyone can do it.
As for the rest of this Dell netbook... I think it will look better in two tone color rather than all black, which has a bit too much of a "shave every penny off the BOM" plastic-bucket-look to it for my taste, but like all Dells it will do what's written on the tin I imagine. I'd like to know why people imagine that this is so---o much better than the Aspire one, or the other 8.9" netbooks out there. I'm sure Asus and the like will match prices once things get a-going.
...Because those are ugly.
Where are the function keys?
How well does it run OSX - prolly not nearly as good as my MSI Wind - Dell = fail.
Too late to the party again dell.
Wow. Attacking the product based on your 'pulled out of my ass' opinion regarding something it wasn't designed to do? You really are the very essence of a troll, aren't you?
At that also attacking a product that is unreleased
Down with these idiots
Has anyone noticed in the previous pics, there is a small button on the right side above the keyboard that is split into 4 parts, but it seems to be missing in the latest shots. Anyone know the meaning or purpose behind this button or if it will show up on the final retail model?
Their Quick OS thingy like the one ASUS is making... Forget what its called again.
Wow, very small adapter. I'm fall in love with this one.
I love how the relatively simple and inexpensive power adapter is getting A LOT more attention than the laptop itself!
Been waiting for this machine really long. I have to say:
It's outrageously grotesque!
What the hell were the Dell guys thinking?
Gosh, why can't you make it as nice as E4200?
Slashdot says this will be available with Ubuntu
http://mobile.slashdot.org/mobile/08/08/19/1222226.shtml
It's going to be sweet when it's released and I get to use Dell premier account to get it for even less.
They should REALLY make netbooks with better screen resolutions. I would love to buy one, but having only a small 1024x600 display size turns me off. One with at least 1280x768/720 would be great and it would totally make me want to buy one.
So this is what palm did with all the foleos?
with luck you could buy an off the shelf adaptor in a different prong configuration or mod an existing one..... in an ideal one it would charge your phone too!
Why o why have they tacked the F# keys onto the number keys with so much space above the keyboard?
Should I cancel my Eee PC 1000h order?
I just bought an eee 901 :(
I'm still debating whether to return it.
Well since no one has said it, and it is a laptop review, I will just go ahead and state the obvious.
1. It's too heavy
2. It's to big
3. Shift key in the wrong place.
4. Won't run Mac OSX well
5. It won't make my toast in the morning.
6. It won't clean up after the dog.
7.
.
Nicely done Dell. I wsore them off a few years ago for not making interesting products, but with that new Eco PC they have along with this, I am definitely interested again. Unfortunately I fear this baby will be priced too high for what it is, especially against all of its other notebooks.
can anyone explain why this would be better than an aspire one with 1g RAM and 120g HDD for $400.
from what ive read the SSD and HDD are about the same speed so im not quite sure why dell would be the best choice in this matter
(ive been waiting for its release to make my final decision on what to purchase)
THANKS!
Now what idiot at Dell's design team came up and said "Hey, how about we get rid of the FUNCTION KEYS?". Way to ruin an otherwise nice netbook...
