Tony Hawk's Motion leads to DS peripheral speculation
Ah, here we go again. With the huge success seen by Guitar Hero: On Tour and its accompanying peripheral, rumors are already swirling that an Activision title by the name of Tony Hawk's Motion could deliver the next great hand occupier. A recent rating (of "G," obviously) was handed down for the elusive game by Australia's Classification Board, leaving many to wonder (read: hope) if said title will eventually ship with some sort of DS-compatible motion control accessory. Considering just how hot these bundled gizmos are right now, we'd say signs are pointing to "yes."

Imagine if they give you those little finger skateboards? Those things were so fun back in the day.

Tony Hawk's Motion leads to DS peripheral speculation (from us)

Or, it could just use the touchscreen.
Save the motion sensing for the Wii, where it already comes with the system.

It's too bad that the tony hawk games have become a parody of themselves. With their 7 digit combos, ridiculous objectives and gravity defying hang time.

I remember rocking out for hours playing Tony Hawk 2 on the Dreamcast.

I vividly remember my disappointment when I found out Project 8 did not come with a lease to an apartment in the ghetto.
So engadet, what have you trumped up that would possibly be useful and innonvative that would make it worthwhile for use to pay $10 more to get a DS skating game with a peripheral?

From what I've read it's likely going to utilize a motion sensor making you tilt the DS side to side to pump the skateboard on the ramps and stay on it. That would be AWESOME if it comes out for the Wii fit. Talk about a natural fit. I hope they build the game specifically for the Fit and not just as an afterthought.
Thanks,
Scott

I can confirm that Activison subsidiary Vicarious Visions was playing with a DS motion widget of some sort about a year ago. Having lived with a former employee who was fairly excitable, it slipped out the same month as the On Tour keypad. Honestly, I've been really surprised by the lack of news regarding the add-on - accelerometers are kind of a solved technology, and the components should be easy enough to squeeze into a GBA-size cart.
This next bit is pure speculation on my part: Nintendo wants motion controls for the DS. They're clearly big on the technology, what with the Wii and now the lightsaber-enabling add-on for the Wiimote. It would be in their best interests to ensure that the first DS motion device on the market is done right and made available for other first- and third-party games. I think the long wait and radio silence have been carefully orchestrated for maximum PR leverage when this finally launches.

I thought I heard somewhere that there was a Wii tony hawk in the works that utilizes the Wii fit board. Is it possible that there is some confusion over this?
