Sure, you could dismiss this round of iPod rumors -- so carefully culled by the fine folks at 9 to 5 Mac and AppleInsider -- as baseless speculation, but we'll have none of your dowdy skepticism. We're talking about
rainbows here, people. AppleInsider claims that retailers are seeing current iPod models being switched to "discontinued" in inventory systems, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says to expect iPod refreshes across the board, including a slightly redesigned $200 iPod touch, and meanwhile 9 to 5 Mac has it from an unnamed source that the new iPod nanos will have enhanced features, double the storage and
rainbow color schemes. It's almost like somebody in Cupertino is reading our mind! We'll know for sure when new iPods arrive mid-September filled to the brim with "Run's House" episodes and bedecked in rainbow-hued gummy bears. It's going to rock.

Why would you wish that?
Isn't that why used iPods always get cheaper fast?
If they didn't update them every year, you would still not get that used iTouch for less then $200.
But in a months time, you can probably get one for $120-150
Apple strategy
Hell on early adapters
Heaven for the used gropers
Yes the rumor about all 2nd gen ipod nanos gen are over. I work at staples and all the 4,8gb nanos with all the 80gb and 160gb ipod classics are disco.. soo lets see this might just be true :)
I finally found a Staples employee. Too bad it wasn't when I was actually in the store. Where do you guys hide anyway?
Excuse me, but looking at the picture, I was assuming the new iPods were disco.
I would totally be down for a 16GP iPod Touch with GPS and stereo BlueTooth. But now that Android enabled phones are closer down the road I may hold off on an iPod Touch.
These things need Stereo Bluetooth. How can they be an innovative music player without it? I can buy a $69 4gb Insignia player from Best Buy that has an oled screen and .....you guessed stereo Bluetooth capability
I guess the rainbow thing is true about Mac fanbois
/window seat please
my old iPod is a Classic 160gig...my computer has an 80gig HD....it'll take a while to fill up either...
New models, new colors, new features, but I bet still no radio, no expansion slot, no user changeable battery, no speed control...
Speed control???? You mean for playback?
It would be awesome if we could get a touch with expansion slot eh!
Speed control? Variable speed playback? It's had it for audiobooks for two years.
Rainbows are so amazing that I made a site with nothing but--

iPod Spectrum?
iPod Hue?
iPod ROYGBIV?
Quite a timely top-post on there, no?
The iPod classic and iPod nano are dead. They will be replaced by a new iPod touch, so everyone will have access to the App Store and all of its goodness.
Everything is always iPod, but what about the Creative Zen? Who cares that the iPod's are been phased out. Creative invented the iPod interface, which Apple stole. Creative recently released new ZEN players, such as the ZEN X-Fi, the world's first X-Fi Wireless player. So, ditch the iPod and check out the ZEN. Give Creative a chance!
I'm waiting for a few updates:
1) A fix to the way the iPod deals with Audiobooks! The 5G was almost perfect when it dealt with audiobooks... it organized them like music, by Genre, Artist, and then Album (which most people used as Genre, Author, Book). Then the iPod Classic came about and screwed that all up! When you go to the Audiobook section now you just get every file in one jumbled mess. No organization other than alphabetical by file! Who names their files with the author name?? So, you have book series not even near each other, you have the same author spread out all over the place. It's madness! One thing they got right though, was that if it's an audiobook, it no longer shows up in the music section--the iPod 5G didn't do that.
So, in short, keep the audiobooks in "Audiobooks" and add back the better sort function!
2) This is a long shot, I know, but A2DP Bluetooth! I would like to listen to my iPod with wireless headphones without the need for an adapter! It'll never happen, probably because of the battery drain, but it would be nice.
3) Even more storage! Mwa-ha-ha-ha! Ok, yeah, 160 GB is actually enough for me if I just stick to my music, but when I add my Audiobooks in, it's over flowing. And this isn't including video at all. (Although, I don't really watch video on such a small screen, I know lots of people do.)
Other than those 3 things... I'm very happy with the iPod Classic.
New generation iPods. That should keep Zune Guy happy for a while.
Uh-oh, it's an election year here in the U.S.
Apple had better be careful with the rainbow-colored iPods or the über-conservative wing of the population might accuse them of promoting the "Gay Agenda" :-)
Rainbows improve any product.
That's what Mojave was - they just put rainbows on Vista. It was pretty cool.
A 8GB ipod touch withe an sdhc slot for upto 16GB sd card for 99 would be cool up there with creative zen X-fi would be totaly cool.
NO! I just bought a new iPod!! Damn you Apple!!
I think it will look nice if they look like the 2nd gen iPod nano's. rounded side edges with the top and bottom squared off in aluminium. :)
Needs integrated bluetooth for headphones and connecting to car stereos (they should make the car head unit too). Wifi with online radio. And oh yeah, FM radio, it's not that difficult. An SD card expansion slot.
The iPhone just needs GPS turn-by-turn directions, with traffic tracking technology (just open that one up to developers).
The Creative Zen handles audiobooks better than the iPod. The ZEN supports bookmarking and windows media formats - wav, wma and wmv whereas the iPod does not. In fact some library ebooks don't support the iPod because of this. For example go to http://www.pwcgov.org/library and you'll see the Zen Vision:M pictured, not the iPod.
A new improved ipod touch would be nice...with gps built in. bluetooth, buit in speaker, and camera with video capture!!!
if the new touch doesn't have either bluetooth or a usb host port, I'm switching to cowon.
Apple... put the FM radio in the iPod Classic and Nano already.
I'm planning on buying a brand new iPod next month (don't already have one) but that's one feature I'd genuinely *love* those two models having; I'm not prepared to shell out for the iTouch because it's far too much and doesn't even offer decent value for money.
FM? really? you like commercials that much? I mean, you can always download nickleback and play it on repeat if you really have to get your fix...
@THJ:
you're queer.
Im planning on getting a new Touch around Christmas. A redesigned, cheaper one would be icing!
Last time Apple offered a free nano to collage students they updated the nano. Now they were offering the nano an touch free. Seems like a good way to clear out inventory.
It's funny, because this article turned out to be true...
