PSP-3000's new, better LCD is new, better
Don't want to blow any minds here, but Sony's new and improved PSP-3000 LCD happens to actually be new and improved. According to our bestest pals over at Engadget Japan, the new screen has double the color gamut, about five times the contrast ratio and double the response time. PSP-3000... will you marry us?

woweee it looks like an iphone now!
I voted you up to help offset the quabillions of down votes you will get.
i disagree.. i think it looks more like an iPod!
I think both of you will get downranked for this treachery.
I am going to hold out on PSP until they completely revise it and add 2 analog sticks.
I tried playing my younger cousins Rainbow 6 Vegas and I was completely disgusted. The majority of games I play are FPS and the PSP can't handle them simply because aiming is ridiculously hard with the face action buttons.
@d I voted you down to help the quabillions of down votes you will get.
and oddly you get the low votes., weird.
Flashpoint.
GET OVER IT.
They're NEVER EVER EVER adding 2 analog sticks. If they did, no developer would want to use them because then their game would only be playable on the new PSP and not the old ones that 90% of people would be using.
The PSP2 may have 2 analog sticks. But stop holding out some completely absurd and illogical hope for a second stick on a PSP revision.
Dan Halen is right.
Plus, if you fools would have just stuck with the southpaw controls that Turok introduced to you, there'd be no complaining! Look on the left thumb, move with the right.
Sony!
Get rid of that STUPID UMD's!
Install hard-drive or SSD already!
A major hardware revision goes deeper than just making another control profile, Flashpoint. Stop yelling. Smart people are trying to talk.
Dan Halen, while I agree with you on some points, there's also the possibility of making an entirely new PSP system.
Not another PSP 4000, but something like PS2P or whatever you could call it.
The two analog sticks would make gaming much more like the older PSX/PS2 games of before, and allow things like harddrive implementation.
Handhelds get outdated often, this is a fact. There were Nintendo and Sega handsets well before the PSP and they've been gone and updated, with little problem from fans.
"...while I agree with you on some points, there's also the possibility of making an entirely new PSP system."
So, exactly like when I said PSP2 above? Earlier?
How the hell is every electronic related to the iPhone, I swear it's like a new TV comes out and some idiot below posts "It's like an iPhone"...It's a PSP and no it doesn't have anything similar to the iPhone except maybe the screen size.

No way man, it's a Game Boy (original) rip-off!
The light colours are a dead give-away ;)

Wow! Those are great specs. I might buy another and give the one I have away to a relative.
except the response time, so now its going to for from like 12ms or whatever it is to 24ms? more ghosting ftl
I hope they mean half
I'm sure they mean a response time that is twice as fast.... not literally double.
Also, they forgot to mention the built-in mic. See it there between vol + and PSP logo?
would be a white wedding
"Thanks, Billy Idol!!"
Yet still one analog. Thus negating any upgrade to the current model. Go Sorny.
Dude, it's not supposed to be a major hardware revision, there just adding subtle hardware changes to make it better for those who still haven't bought one. That and its probably tweaked to be almost home brew-proof. And it's not like its more money, it's a psp with a 4 gig card for the same price as any PSP bundle out right now.
Yeah the screen was never the problem with older models yet its the only thing they've improved
Sony should just wait until the PSP 2 to add another analog nub. But, with it, they should find a way to add two more shoulder buttons, so that the transition between console and handhelds is as smooth as possible.
I'd argue that the screen response rate was the only thing wrong with the original PSP's screen - it did smear some.
Did you hear Magnetbox was coming out with a Sorny PSP competitor?
hmmm sorny....do you mean sore knee?
i don't get all this second analog and extra shoulder buttons nagging...
wtf, its a portable not a ps2/3?
the ds isn't a wii either, so live with it!
Don't forget Panaphonics.
Sony has had plenty of time to add the second analog, but still no sign of it.
@ Alan
Some games have very fast movements, and the screen isn't fast enough to keep up with the game. It causes many headaches for some users. I doesn't cause me any headaches, but it is terribly annoying once you notice it. I didn't notice this at all until I played Crisis Core.
Should I return the God of War PSP I bought a week ago and hold out for this? It's probably harder to hack, but it comes with a 4 gig card for the same price.
I wouldn't do it only for better screen. LCD on PSP was pretty good from the start.
If they didn't made PSP thinner/lighter, no bigger/better battery, no homebrew/pirated games support - then I would have skipped it.
No, you should stick with the 2000. 4gb are only around $40 now, and, as you said, you probably can't hack the 3000 for a while.
damn
@rv
I actually bought a 4 gig for my 2000 off newegg for $32. Even tho it is tempting, I'll stick with my red psp. Now, to get rid of my 60gb PS3 and upgrade to the 160 gb!
Hey, are you really letting go of your 60 gb? If you do can you mail me @ susuamazin at aol dot com? I'd love to buy one of those...
@ b3astofthe3ast
just replace the hdd yourself. no sense in blowing more money than you need to.
Sorry, EarlOfNot, that was supposed to be for you. But th'engadgetcommentsystemfriggincrapsht$#%@$#% screwed up the fun.
most importantly, what firmware does it ship with / can i hack it.
You can only hack the PSP 2000's using a pandora battery. I imagine Sony nullified that with this hardware revision. Seriously, one has to wonder if Sony would release this many revision had it not been for the massive efforts of the hacking community...
Do you mean HALF the response time, or actually DOUBLE the response time?
Woaaaah, tricky tricky.
put quotes around my double
I won't believe it until I see it in action.
i tried explaining a feture list that was attempted by garage hacks by individuals.
meaning there is an actual market out there that wants these features.
i myself would be glad to be able to play Fifa on my psp, then switch to gps, and have it tell me where i am, and take a shot of something worth putting into a mem card.
jesus? that would be great to, but im not asking too much,
Double the response time - so the screen updates slower? Or do you mean half the respons time - that would be an upgrade
add a gps reciever, camera, and touch screen support, and maybe most people will consider.
i mean, what is the point of all these tiny tweaks in such a short time interval?
is sony trying to get the same attention as Asus' eee lines?
While your making a list that extreme you might as well add 4gb ddr ram, a quad core processor, a 60 gb sdd and Jesus...
It's a gaming rig. It doesn't need touchscreen. It doesn't need a gps. It doesn't need to be a phone. It doesn't need to be a camera. It just needs to play good games.
NONE of those things are necessary on the PSP
and what do you mean "all these tiny tweaks"? this is the second "tiny tweak" ever is it not?
and why would i be in a psp?
but on a more serious note, i think ill stick with my old psp 1000. These changes are pointless to me and even though the screen is better, it was never bad in the first place. btw this new one is gonna be a bitch to hack! >:(
