PSP-3000's new, better LCD is new, better
Don't want to blow any minds here, but Sony's new and improved PSP-3000 LCD happens to actually be new and improved. According to our bestest pals over at Engadget Japan, the new screen has double the color gamut, about five times the contrast ratio and double the response time. PSP-3000... will you marry us?

jesus swore! i am crushed of my christian beliefs! i must now become a jew!
i tried explaining a feture list that was attempted by garage hacks by individuals.
meaning there is an actual market out there that wants these features.
i myself would be glad to be able to play Fifa on my psp, then switch to gps, and have it tell me where i am, and take a shot of something worth putting into a mem card.
jesus? that would be great to, but im not asking too much,
how is the story via PSP fanboy but according to engadget japan?
Engadget got it from PSP Fanboy, and PSP Fanboy got it from Engadget Japan, but I'm wondering why Engadget didn't just get it from Engaget Japan???
Because if you only get things through the standard channels, engadgets .from Japan would take another 6mos to get here.
DAMN IT!!! I just bought a slim like a month and a half ago!
welcome to the world of technology
welcome to the world of technology
Geez, what's with all of the redundancy around here???
First the article and now double-posting?
How do they plan to put it to GOOD use?
Thing is...who will buy it? And at what price...cause yesterday it was listed for $300.
No thanks!
im pretty sure it was only $200 for the bundle, and the same price for the stand alone psp. better check you numbers.
Even though Im perfectly satisfied with my Original PSP Fat, when DAX inevitably hacks and creates a CFW for the PSP-3000 I MIGHT consider getting one. Because the PSP-2000 wasn't enough of an upgrade to replace the PSP fat. HOWEVER, combine the upgrades of the PSP-2000 with the new upgrades of the PSP-3000, Sony MIGHT have a winner on their hands.
And oh to people screaming for dual Analog sticks: the PSP hardware has a 10 year life span, and by putting 2 different analog sticks on the PSP that essentially changes the game hardware at its core, which then changes the game structures. I doubt that Sony would pull any Wii moves and force owners of the PSP Fat/2000/3000 to upgrade just to play new games.
Summary: Don't expect Dual analog sticks until 2012/13/14, when they release PSP 2-1000
Yeah, two analogs won't happen till the next generation of PSP.
Sony is losing so much money lately though I don't know if that 10 year life span will stick around... They might release a new PSP half way through the life span and just keep both around until the original PSP dies off after 10 years.
They've removed the ability to use the Pandora's battery on it apparently, so don't expect to hack it easily. Makes it a bit useless if you ask me.
I hope the other previous rumors of fullhd output, bluetooth etc also hold true. The main thing though is whether this will be able to be modified to allow homebrew/emulators to run on it. Worst case, the current 2000's will drop in price at least on the resell market if they can't be found in stores and I can pick up a couple more (kids don't like it when I take it on business trips, lol).
who said it had a 10-year lifespan.
yeah, I just bought the madden pack last week. :(
I frequently wonder how things would have been different if Sony had gotten the PS3 and PSP right the first time, rather than after all of the updates and tweaks. It's a great platform now; it just didn't live up to the hype (or price) at release.
So with the nice new screen, is the resolution actually larger? So, for example, if I use the TV output, would the picture actually be larger on my TV? The old PSP's had tiny output that only used like half the TV screen.
So not only is it better, but it's also better?
Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't DOUBLING the response time a very bad thing?
No, didn't you read? It makes it better AND better.
uhh... isn't that HALF the response time??
Enough about adding a second analog stick--they need to fix the one they've got. Ever tried to play a game that requires more than two minutes of analog stick manipulation? Your thumb feels like falling off.
Totally agree. The placement is terrible. The analog stick is so far down that you basically have to pinch it between your thumb and index finger. You look like your holding a little teacup all pinkies-up style. They should have moved both the stick and the D-pad up toward the top. Come on guys, basic ergonomics.
I'll just take out my old screen and put in the new. No need for upgrading to a whole new PSP...
Finally a fix to the horrible ghosting on the screen. I will replace my launch PSP and maybe actually use it!
The ghosting is the reason I will consider replacing my fat PSP as well, though I have actually used that one quite a bit. I couldn't care less about homebrew but I do like to watch videos - it gets more use as a video than a game player - so a better screen will be welcomed.
why are there two wholes in it on either side when the mic is at the bottom =/
because they're not wholes, only halves
I can totally see a Final Fantasy Dissidia or Kingdom Heart bundle with this new PSP.
I will only get this if I can hack it because I got the PSP1000 with 16GB memory stick and only 45MB left. Most of that is hacked stuff. IF i can't hack it. I don't want it
You do realize that you can just buy the screen separately? Don't pay for a new system and rip it apart.
Get a hold of me when it's over 9000.
@ STEIN
Im just talking about a pregnant female dog. no biggie ;)
Hope they fix the shitty video out:
