Art Lebedev's Folderix flash drives are obvious, awesome
Lebedev's design crew never seems to be short on surprisingly obvious and yet entirely fresh takes on every day objects, and the new Folderix flash drives are taking that ethic to entirely new and conveniently functional heights. The 4GB drives come in a myriad of colors, are available today and will run you a fairly steep $55. Literal folder design? Priceless.

MastrCake @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:29AM
A little steep $55, eh?
Well, that's good news coming from the people who make the Optimus Maximus... A little steep vs. waaaay too expensive.
I'll take a little steep for $55 Alex.
GatgetMan @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:26AM
I grabbed an IronKey, that ran me $139 for 4GB....
nDee @ Aug 23rd 2008 3:43AM
It's fairly cheap, when talking about stuffs from Art Lebedev

the internet can be like getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar sometimes.
FuzzyCat @ Aug 23rd 2008 6:03AM
Slow news day I guess
Justin @ Aug 23rd 2008 11:59PM
@bolezhinkov: Or, more accurately, with it in your pants.
dustin @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:51PM
@justin: the cookie jar in your pants?

Taking a good look at the 2 pictures, this one and the one in your link, they are not identical. The pic in the older post looks more refined while the pic in this post looks geeky.
Rhino @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:34AM
I will only buy it if I have the same OLED on these
and I can change the color easily as I wish (if it can detect my motion...)

cost at newegg for a 4gb patriot xporter with high speed transfer, 20.00
kyle allen @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:08AM
but does it look like a folder? i should think not!
Matt @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:59AM
Looks like any other 4 GB thumb drive but with a Mac OS X spin on it. I personally prefer the sushi or asparagus versions over this.
Conor Kirkpatrick @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:26AM
Because Mac OS X is the only os that uses folders right?
Wiigee @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:29AM
Huh? are we using the same OS X?
Carl Vitullo @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:49AM
Actually, I think those look more like the Ubuntu folders.
kyle allen @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:09AM
i cant wait for the "my network places" version
fiskeben @ Aug 23rd 2008 3:06AM
kyle: it's a Mac OS X folder and it looks exactly like one (in my opinion).
jaalin @ Aug 23rd 2008 3:08AM
been wondering about this forever, but how exactly do you pronounce 'lebedev'? is it "leb-eh-dev" or "lee-be-deev" or "leeb-deev"?
ujn @ Aug 23rd 2008 6:07AM
le-be-dev or even l'e-b'e-d'ev. Its Russian letter which has no analogs in English, and Americans typically can't pronounce it correctly.
stefan @ Aug 23rd 2008 6:17AM
True, but then again russians don't pronounce every us-american word with an us-american accent either.
pronounce it like you would "everest" and you'll be close enough.
Eugene @ Aug 23rd 2008 6:19AM
"leb-eh-dev"
CaptSaltyJack @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:04PM
"o-ver-priced"
indiecognition @ Aug 23rd 2008 3:34AM
The folder theme is cool. But I'd be a bigger fan if they'd gone with a circuar shape, called it the "Oh," and charged zero for it.
avester @ Aug 23rd 2008 3:37AM
Remember that the company is an art studio making art, so obviously things cost more than your average wallmart stuff.
Crayola @ Aug 23rd 2008 4:35AM
Rather throw my money away with the USB humping dog....
Jesuz @ Aug 23rd 2008 5:49AM
I think it looks like an old iBook clam shell.
I think this one looks more new Macbook Pro

They are sooo Beautiful !!!!!!!!
bureX @ Aug 23rd 2008 8:20AM
They could have at least made the USB connector retractable, it looks pretty fragile.
sd @ Aug 23rd 2008 8:40AM
i wanna have an usb design like a black big bimbo cock... with at least 16GB storage.
cody @ Aug 23rd 2008 9:30AM
omg i need one. now.
elloh7 @ Aug 23rd 2008 10:02AM
"..myriad of colors,"? Seriously? It comes in 3 colors. Not exactly the definition of "myriad", which I believe is something like, "a countless or extremely great number". So... use a dictionary next time you don't know the definition of a word. Please.
Zeroize @ Aug 23rd 2008 10:21AM

Almadi @ Aug 23rd 2008 12:17PM
An engineer didn't design it. It is an example of form over function. USB drives should not be much wider than the USB part or they will obstruct other devices.
Dahk @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:24PM
And such sweet form it takes.
If you're actually willing to shell out $55 for this baby (let alone 4 digits for the optimus maximus), I'm pretty sure you'd sacrifice your 'other devices' to plug this in.
Max @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:51PM
Well, true as that is, my laptop (Dell Vostro 1400) at least has USB ports that are arranged vertically on the right side, so technically unless those folders are really thick, no ports would be blocked...
mrman @ Aug 24th 2008 10:39AM
the fact that we are debating this proves that we are all dorks..........lol........ even though it is interesting and fun.
Xerloq @ Sep 1st 2008 1:25PM
I'll bet these are extremely slow. The core drive looks identical to "the worlds smallest" flash drive I had a few years back from PQI. Molasses, man. I can't imagine transferring 4GB on these things.
Blech.
