Sony's PlayStation 3 wireless keypad now available for pre-order
Hey, remember that totally bodacious PlayStation 3 wireless keypad we told you about last week? Well if you do -- and you should -- you'll be pleased to know that you can now pre-order the $49.99 accessory at Amazon. Sure, you'll still have to wait till November 30th to get your hands and fingertips on the thing, but at least you can sleep at night, safe in the knowledge that it has your name on it.

I wish it was cheaper but... I'll probably wind up getting it anyway.
The PSP needs one of these addons. It's easier to take a crap and do a handstand at the same time than it is to type on the PSP's awful OSK.
Couple things, I while I do prefer the 360, do own a ps-3. A couple positives and possibly a few unknowns to think about.
Plus: Finally you can type something on your browser without taking 5 minutes!
Minus: You'll hyper-extend your thumbs to type. Think about it, your thumbs naturally sit on the pad and buttons and the keyboard is above that, so yes, your going to extend them somehow.
Plus: It does snap on to the controller!
Minus, it clips on the bottom obviously, but what about the top? Not alot of ridges there.....
Plus: It'll finally (read hopefully) provide some much needed weight to the standard - non-dualshock , controller.
Unknown, if it's got its own bluetooth radio, where is it's power coming from? Does it have its own batteries or does it draw from the already shortened battery life of the PS-3 controller? How does it charge if not from a mini-usb , and does it cover the mini usb of the controller?
I'd like to see more specs before making the final decision. However, one can only hope it'll totally rock for the asking price.
it has it's own power source. and you don't need to have the it connected to the DS3 to charge it. it can be charged/used sepretly.
i was hopeing it would have been a lil cheaper but, i guese not. by the way it looks, typing on this thing would be like using the keyboard on a side sitting cell phone..something like the Slide or Side Kick. i wouldn't think you'd be texting during a game on COD4 so, taking your thumbs of the analog stick shouldn't be a problem.
i'll wait to see it in a store and hopefuly ON a controller before i pass judgement. all in all if it works right...i might have to pick one up, i didn't feel the need to get one for my 360 because, i can't check my yahoo/google mail or surf the web on it.
it has a separate battery and has to be paired by USB to the PS3.
That's really convenient for a Bluetooth device isn't it?
Some of you are complaining about a $15 price difference when MS makes you pay $80-100 for a wireless adapter? It would have cost MS what, $1 to add wifi to the 360? They didn't believe wireless internet was the future, but at least you get a chat pad for $15 less. Get over it...
and this is another example of Sony screwing up something simple that could have been an advantage over the 360.
If they had made it $30 it would have been in comparative range of the 360 pad which serves the same purpose only with more thoughtful design. As it is it's a clunkily designed piece of kit that's overpriced.
Like the BT PS3 remote which is also a joke for $30.
Nice to see keyboard input becoming relevant on consoles. That means the MMORPGs aren't too far away. I hate to seem biased but I have a better idea for adding a keyboard to a controller. http://www.in10did.com in development for the 360 right now, but the PS3 can be done too. Type with all of your fingers right where you hold the controller. No readjusting & no looking just slip your fingers underneath to avoid pressing buttons. Hoping to be ready for CES 2009!
I'm sorry, mate, but that looks really terrible. I can't imagine how long it would take to learn how to type effectively with it.
Good luck though.
I don't get why the keyboard has to be on the actual controller for any of the systems, but the 360's seems much easier to use. Logitech is putting out a small officially licensed wii keyboard for $50, and I'd much rather have that on my lap. Not to mention how horrible it would be if anyone tried to stick a keyboard on a wii remote and/or nunchuk, ouch!
BT compatible? Will I be able just to buy this and use it on my phone for texting and email and stuff like that? Stuck without qwerty, ftl
