Canon's A1000 IS, A2000 IS, SX110 IS and E1 break free

Here's three more from Canon, the same, entry-level trio we saw leaked yesterday now official (where's the E1?). The optical image stabilized set feature face detection and DIGIC 3 image processing. Let's highlight the differences:
- $300 SX110 IS: 9 megapixels, 10x zoom, 3-inch LCD
- $250 A2000 IS: 10 megapixels, 6x zoom, 3-inch LCD
- $200 A1000 IS: 10 megapixels, 4x zoom, 2.5-inch LCD
Update: Ah ha, we just found the missing Powershot E1 from yesterday's quartet. The cutesy, OIS cam targeting teens and tweens features the same DIGIC 3 processing with a 10 megapixel sensor, 4x zoom, and 2.5-inch LCD.

I'll take the A2000 IS please. I don't mind a little bulk in exchange for a better optical zoom and 3" lcd. I'm hoping for a better color combo or just a solid black finish.

What does the "6.0mm" (well, 6.0-60.0mm) stand for?
I know it's usually the 35mm equivalent lens angle... But 6-60 doesn't exactly make sense to me, so I must be missing something (yes I'm a n00b, but trying to learn.... And failing...)
Allister @ Aug 26th 2008 2:24AM
It means the focal length goes from 6mm at the wide end to 60mm at the tele end...
threefingeredlord @ Aug 26th 2008 2:58AM
It is the actual lens angle, not the 35mm equivalent.
Because of the smaller sensor, it works out as something different 35mm equiv : ).

They could not have just done a 10mp 10X could they, they have to make us choose.
Well I think I would take the 9x10 since the difference between a 9m-10m is not THAT much but going from 6x to 10x (stabilized of course)
gives at least a longer range.
Of course they better be talking optical here

Someone still makes a 32MB SD card?????
Hell why not give a 1 GB SD card - I can pick one up at the grocery check out stand for just $10. With Canon's buying power they could actually include a good quality usable capacity SD card. Including a 32MB SD is an insult and just a waste of packaging.
tekdroid @ Aug 26th 2008 10:54AM
Why not include a 1GB card? You stated yourself that you can get one cheaply, so do so :)
But let's discuss that:
OK, say they make 500,000 of these cameras...
...and say including the 1GB card costs them $2 to include in your package as opposed to 40 cents (for arguments sake). Now see what they stand to lose in profit if giving you 1GB.
No film camera comes with film and SD is everywhere, so it's just a starter to get people shooting. Consider it a bonus. Plus, you know camera retailers love those margins on accessories. They will not promote a camera that includes the kitchen sink. Canon wants to keep the retailers happy and have their stuff promoted adequately, too.
From a business perspective, everything makes perfect sense and I can't say I blame them one bit. Disposable batteries on the other hand...

Is one of these a G9 replacement?
geognerd @ Aug 26th 2008 5:13PM
No. That would be called a G-something. These are A- and SX-series replacements.

Ray @ Aug 27th 2008 5:21AM
i've been doing research and getting my choices down to 2 camera and been trying to decide which canon i wanted. it was either: a720, or sx100.
then today i came across a whole new line of replacement for those 2 choices i picked out. glad i found this out, otherwise i'd be bummed out buying an older model.
now i just gotta pick which 1 i want. (money-wise)
