Microsoft hints at new mice: "Say Goodbye to Laser"
We'd say the jump from traditional optical mice to laser mice was pretty momentous, and it sounds like Microsoft is getting ready to jump again -- Microsoft Hardware put up a teaser this afternoon for a September 9th announcement featuring the tagline "Say Goodbye to Laser." Yeah, that's not exactly subtle, is it? We're hoping a return to old-school trackballs with grimy little wheels is in order, but we're just sentimentalists at heart.

I bet it's an accelerometer base mouse
People complaining lasers arnt good enough on surfaces? Buy a mousepad sheesh.
It's a blue laser.. so because we're used to lasers being red, a blue one is so much more than just a stupid old red laser.
Smells like MS Faillium (Extreme Edition, even).
My guess is this is something related to the surface. MS has done a great job of keeping things secret as of late.
it's called the iMouse
Maybe the new mouse device itself is touch sensitive. Like trackpads on laptops, the top of the mouse is a trackpad. That would mean less arm movement and more finger movement. The surface of the mouse would be broken up into left, center, and middle regions, each recognizing clicks (single touch), scrolls (two-finger movement), and drags (single-finger movement). This evolution of the mouse would be a combination of the comfortable and familiar mouse device with the added benefit of being stationary. Especially nice for people with cluttered desktops, limited mobility, or people who don't like trackpads on laptops and just want to have a mouse rest on their leg.
Anyone else interested in a touch sensitive mouse?
Man i've got 6 mice And a graphic tablet. So i don't think i'll be buyin' this thing anytime soon.
Hey, isn't September 9 the supposed date for the Apple Keynote?
I have a feeling there's a connection between the two mouse....
(Apple using the new Microsoft's mouse technology on their Mighty Mouse?)
Still waiting on the multi-touch mouse...
my friend working in bellvue said they are using accelerometers
I use a trackball, so Microsoft can take their pretty blue light and stick it.
with an accelerometer I won't be able to use my mouse in the car unless I'm traveling at a constant speed!
