SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards hit 30MB/s
SanDisk's pushed both Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and regular SD cards to 30MB/s transfer rates before, and now it's SDHC's turn with the new Extreme III series. Yep, it's a really fast memory card for DSLRs, and it'll cost you: 4GB will be $65, 8GB $110 and 16GB will set you back whopping $180 when these hit in October.[Via Digital Camera Info]

Yeah, it's about time!
Flashpoint @ Aug 27th 2008 11:19PM
No, it can't run Crysis
But, it can definitely store it !
Nytrojen @ Aug 27th 2008 11:51PM
Why do you have to mention Crysis in every second post of yours?
andres @ Aug 27th 2008 11:52PM
it cant play doom either
Reader @ Aug 28th 2008 12:43AM
Once upon a time Flashpoint would make comments containing his own opinion, which often enough would get ranked down. This drove him the the edge of insanity. He now teeters between insane and himself, neither really the better. In both states he promotes the fact that he has no care for rankings, and proves it by his use of "does it run crysis" in every other post. By doing this he can snicker at low rankings and say "I meant for that to happen!" and delude himself into believing he's mocking everyone else. Before he would just be crushed that no one found him as intelligent as he did. He's still quite sure he's a genius and everyone else is just a fool.

Your Crysis install fits into 16 GB comfortably?

Why not come out with a 4th model? Ultra is 2, Extreme is 3. It seems like it might be confusing with the same model name but with "30Mb/s Edition" tacked on.
Austin R. Range @ Aug 27th 2008 11:34PM
There is an Extreme IV actually (only for CF currently).
I don't understand why Sandisk redid the Ultra II, Extreme III, and Extreme IV speeds (15MB/s, 30MB/s, and 45MB/s respectively).
Housen @ Aug 27th 2008 11:50PM
Me want. nao
andres @ Aug 27th 2008 11:53PM
load some grammar rules onto it and you're set.
Down @ Aug 27th 2008 11:56PM
don't forget to feed it with the spelling rules.
Reader @ Aug 28th 2008 12:44AM
If it's being good though, you can occasionally feed it some "lawl snakz"
phanbouy @ Aug 28th 2008 1:15AM
Reader, I think there's a lot of readers here who could stand to eat some lawl snacks.
lost..civantares @ Aug 28th 2008 12:15AM
Almost as expensive as a SSD!
Zinger314 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:28AM
It's bigger than the Bible.

I wouldn't want to lose one of these!
Byrdman @ Aug 28th 2008 12:43AM
um, these have been out for a while now (at least the 4 gig).
Muhammed @ Aug 28th 2008 12:26PM
yeah but not the Exteme III editions, the transfer speeds on the old ones sucked.
digitallysick @ Aug 28th 2008 12:48AM
i would rather have the ocz 64gb ssd for 200 dollars at newegg
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 28th 2008 1:25AM
Good luck sticking that SSD into your DSLR.
iSmoke,therefore emit death by breathing @ Aug 28th 2008 12:50AM
i wonder if this will work in my PSP?...hhmmm
andres @ Aug 28th 2008 3:18AM
no, its an sdhc card, not a memory stick duo.
B.C. @ Aug 28th 2008 1:42AM
It seems like solid state memory is advancing faster all the time. At this rate every laptop, cell phone, mp3 player (yes, you too iPod) should have a dedicated slot for a micro SD card, SSD or the like to be used as a secondary drive.
I was looking at buying an 8 or 16 gig touch; nifty, but in a year 8 gig mp3 players will be under $50... hard to justify buying something/anything with non-expandable memory now- with advancements like this in memory.
Neil Bradley @ Aug 28th 2008 2:40AM
I'm a bit confused as to how this can do 30 megabytes a second -
Assume a 30Mhz clock (which is both fast and fairly typical for SD), and SD/SDHC having a 4 bit interface. The absolute *BEST* one could hope for is 15MB/sec, and that wouldn't happen due to SD protocol overhead.
Are they capable of running the clock faster than 30Mhz? I haven't yet come across any embedded systems that have SD interfaces that are stable at anything beyond about 25-30Mhz. I also know there are other standards that provide an 8 bit interface, but that's not what SDHC defines.
Ricardo @ Aug 28th 2008 6:52AM
Hmm... can't it transfer 2 bits per cycle, like DDR memory does?
Jensen @ Aug 28th 2008 1:15PM
Check this out, dude. It will answer most of your questions.

I'm thinking "uber" might have a place here.
Lifelion @ Aug 28th 2008 10:08AM
Before announcing any new items...
Where is the 12GB MICROSDHC announced in January?
Ricardo @ Aug 28th 2008 11:43AM
I think they will skip 12 and go straight to 16, which I don't think is a bad thing.
