BlackBerry Bold hitting AT&T on October 2?
With hope of a summer release fading with the passing of each and every day, Boy Genius Report cites a "pretty solid bit of info" that the BlackBerry Bold is now pegged for launch on AT&T on Thursday, October 2. So if you see a throng of three-piece suits starting to gather around your local store around September 28 or 29, yeah, that's probably why.

A lot of people hate AT&T, but I just love them.
They remind me of the Empire. I love that.
What does it for you? The whole we-have-the-Death-Star-for-a-logo thing, or the whole we-are-imperialist-pigs-who-give-all-your-data-to-the-NSA thing?
Either way, I find their apparent lack of 3G signal (propagation) disturbing.
you don't say!
Blackberry hates them so much they're gonna bold hit their ass!
does Blackberry use a SIM, and if so, can I use my current AT&T phone's SIM?
I'm pretty sure GSM phones require the presence of SIM cards, unlike CDMA where it's internal
If it is a 3G sim. If not they have to transfer the numbers to a 3G sim then you use that.
::::::shakes 8 ball:::::
all signs point to yes
Yay. Time to upgrade...
I will NEVER use ATT again due to the giving-data-to-the-NSA thing!!! Right on, nerdtalker.
All aboard the tin-foil hat express!
so tmo should get it in a few months?
T-mobile will be releasing the Kickstart and Javelin. (IF) the Bold comes out it will be in 6-months or so.
The way the Bold is designed right now I doubt it'll come out on tmo. Weird 3G frequency ftl.
Nope, according to BlackBerry it's ATT exclusive in the USA (period).
Could explain why AT&T ignored the Treo Pro.
I was wonder that myself. Those dates are huge indifference, especially with my samsung starting to crap out on me.
If I saw a throng of three-piece suits, I would assume there was a monocle convention. Or maybe a butler school was just letting out.
a butler school.. I see what you did there
i just my 3g iphone for sale on ebay cause i thought this was coming out soon !! =(

Maaaan October 2nd? Since when do we get anything before you guys up here in Canada? I mean, everyone is really missing out on a great phone here, my cousin brought me his when he picked it up and it actually makes me want a blackberry now!
Great phone, too bad its on ATT. I just cancelled ATT to go back to VZW.
How about ATT gets the Storm and Verizon gets Bold?
C'mon!
Played with this the other day at the Rogers store. I didn't really like the keyboard at all. I much prefer the keyboard on my Curve.
damn this is just when the touch pro is rumored to come out
better still happen i want my touch pro!
Same here!! I'm a blackberry user but the Iphone is looking more and more atrractive the more they delay.
The HTC Dream is looking more and more attractive the longer I use the iPhone 3G on ATT.
I agree. I've been waiting since Aug. They said a summer release. Oct isn't feeling like summer... Pfff.... The Thunder/Storm will come out before the Bold.
Who cares - Give me a damn HTC Touch Pro (i.e. "Fuze") already!
I guess I'll buy it next year. I would have to pay full retail price for it because I got a new 2-year contract for an iPhone 3G.
I'll believe it when I see it. Isn't Tmobile supposed to get it in September?

I just traveled to Dallas for a week with a brand new Telstra (Australia) branded Bold. While it works fine on Telstra's network, AT&T is a different matter all together. Battery life was down to 6-9 hours with the network degrading periodically directly from 3G to GSM(!). This happened despite the handset showing 3 or 4 bar strength. Often the only way to get back on the network was to take out the battery (still the only reliable way to reboot the Bold - a bit primitive to say the least). I think AT&T spaced out the cells too much to save money. Also the Bold exposes the exact same symptoms as the iPhone 3G when used on the AT&T network.
As for the Bold, the browser is still incredibly primitive. Navigation via excessive scrolling of the trackball gets tiring and many pages get rendered incompletely / incorrectly. GPS is very weak. I wished RIM had made more progress given the long development cycle and repeated delays. A moderate improvement on the Curve / 8800 but not an 'iPhone killer' by any stretch of the imagination.
Phones work better when they are not unlocked and are used on the network they are designed to work on. You will kill a battery on an unlocked phone if you are not using it on it's designed network. I am optimistic that the Bold with rock on the 3G!
I freakin' hate AT&T. I just switched from Verizon to get an iPhone. The difference is not subtle. I rarely had coverage or performance issues with Verizon. I have issues with AT&T's sh*tty network multiple times a day. Apparently, walls are a major obstacle for AT&T cellular signals. AT&T must not realize that most of us live and work _indoors_!
Guys in three piece suits don't stand in lines at AT&T stores to get their Blackberries. They have IT departments that take care of those things for them.
I am confused how a handset can be "delayed" when a release date has never been announced, and we have only been dealing with rumours. Although there have been Bold units out there in Europe and other places, no release date has been announced by RIM or AT&T for Bold.
I am just as excited to get this handset (using a Curve right now), I would rather they get it right and get any issues resolved in advance of release it!!! With AT&T set to sell a significant number of these, and the issues AT&T has had with premature releases of other units (Treos, HTC and yes, both versions of I-Phone initially), IMHO, RIM and AT&T want to get this as right as they possibly can.
To me, this is vaporware until they actually ANNOUNCE a date. Everything else is silly season with every single release, and the noobs and nerds criticise that they can't get the unit in their hands early enough, but if it comes out too early - all we hear is whining about how it was released too early and had bad battery life or missing functionality.
As someone who has used Treos and Palm for 20 Years, and switched to RIM in the last year, I applaud RIM for their R&D and for putting out Rock solid Hardware & Software.
The same goes for AT&T. I preferred them when they were Cingular, but I have used all of the major providers, and always come back to AT&T.
-nuff said
I was really excited about the Bold but reading about 3G iPhone issues and the anecdote from @gerard has me much more cautious. I would love the better screen, better browser, and more space. Maybe I will wait for Javelin...
Any news on this????!?!??????????????????
Ok.. it is now Oct. 7 and no Bold in sight.. any updates please?
