Nyko's Wing Wii controller floats into your waiting hands
Love your Wii but tiring of your standard control options? Looking for something that involves less arm swinging, feels a little bit more like an Xbox or PS3 experience, and loses that Classic Controller cable? Well the folks from Nyko are here for you, and they want to hold you all night long... and they brought the Wing. What's the Wing you ask? It's essentially a standard gamepad on highly concentrated crack-cocaine. The wireless controller features two analog sticks and a plethora of buttons (both up front and around the back), and can run for around 30 hours on a pair of AAA batteries. No word on price or release date, but if you notice a sudden crime wave and rash of unexplained fires, the Wing is probably out.

I didn't order wii wings I ordered buffalo. On a serious note I think it looks cool, wonder if it comes in black as well. It also kinda reminds me of a ps3 controller with the placement of the knobs. Wonder how comfortable it is for long term gaming sessions
"Wonder how comfortable it is for long term gaming sessions"
As opposed to what? Waving your arms around the room like an idiot? -_-
I own a Wii, but only use it occasionally for Brawl when friends come over. It's in my living room and the gap from the couches to the console is much too far for any wires. This seems ideal. The only downside is I'll probably end up buying four of them.
Haha you called the analog sticks knobs! On a serious note I think this looks a lot more comfortable than the classic controller, and there's no stupid wire! Would buy.
Usually the "Wii" and "long term gaming session" are mutually exclusive -- and occur far far away from each other.
Long term gaming session is Halo, COD, or Socom until breakfast-time.
Playing Wii Bowling until the 10 year old passes out is a little different -- and doesn't require this controller -- but it is hot though.
Great Idea. Look forward to getting one of these, now all they need to do is add all the best elements of each controller as I think this version needs some tweaking... for example it looks way to chunky, who's hands do they cater for?
And this would be better than a Wavebird...how exactly?
I read the article, essentially, this actually plugs into the bottom of the Wiimote, same as the classic controller, but uses a wireless transmitter like what the wireless nunchuk uses.
honestly, now that I've read it, i'm more than a bit dissapointed, but it's at least an option for those who don't like the standard classic controller.
Because you'll actually be able to find this in stores?
Has anyone noticed that Nyko has been stepping up with some serious quality 3rd part peripheral support? I just got the Nyko wireless nunchuk adapter, the 2 in 1 classic controller shell that lets you attach the Wiimote to it (highly usefull for PC use too if you've got glovepie) and the Wall adapter for the Wiifit board. I think they also have a rechargeable battery pack that looks really good too, but I just haven't needed them since i already have rechargable AA batteries.
My only issue with this is who the heck uses AAA anymore? Have the same problem with the Wireless nunchuck adapter, I practically would have rather used a single AA or something.
Hey leave the knobs out if this LOL. Also yes I have noticed nyko has been doing big things lately in the 3rd party scene. This looks to be another one of thier acomplishments from the comments I have read here so far....
I hate the position of the analog sticks on Sony controllers, it's so damn uncomfortable. The only reason why anyone can use them comfortably is because their hands have mutated around the controller to adapt for comfortable usage.
Why didn't they just position them like on the Gamecube controller?
Also, it's pretty damn phat I must say.
Sounded pretty good, until I discovered that you STILL need to connect it to the Wii Remote, rather than directly.
Looks comfier than the classic controller though.
Dammit, Nyko, I bought the Nyko Wii Charge Station so that I *WOULDN'T* be held down by batteries. Give us a non-wireless version of this (or a rechargeable one) and I might consider buying.
Has anybody made a mod to use a PS2 controller as if it were a classic controller?
It's hard to tell for sure from the article (the sentence sounds like there's a typo in it) but it sounds like it does have rechargable battery support. That's what the USB port on the bottom of the thing is for. It's probably like the 360 controller where it takes AA's out of the box but you can buy a rechargable battery pack for it to use instead.
Looks cheap & most probably is with after market controllers & you consider bying this ?
It's likely hame misalighned analog sticks that you usally get with aftermarket crud meaning you can only walk not run .
Ok, I appreciate the fact that most, if not all, of these comments were relevant to the article. That's actually seems quite the rarity with any Asian or typing error being the topic norm but is it just me or did this article have a "plethora" of oddly-phrased statements:
"Well the folks from Nyko are here for you, and they want to hold you all night long... and they brought the Wing."
Good because I feel lonely a lot and Asian manufacturers of gaming controllers would make me feel appreciated?
"It's essentially a standard gamepad on highly concentrated crack-cocaine... and a plethora of buttons (both up front and around the back)"
Personally, it seems pretty docile and the amount of buttons on it are no more than on an Xbox controller. Am I missing something?
"No word on price or release date, but if you notice a sudden crime wave and rash of unexplained fires, the Wing is probably out."
These are the kinds of things I write when I am really, really tired and it's 3 in the morning and I have a paper (or article) due at 8am.

Not that I am complaining.
It's better than having a blog bore me to death.
Well done, Engadget, at doing... whatever it is you do... so well.
Am I the only one that glanced at it and thought it said Wang?
Meh.. still fail. The only two 3rd party pads I could EVER stand were the Logitech PS2 Precision Cordless and the SNES Asciipad. Just give us a fully bluetooth, and USB rechargeable version of the wavebird and Classic Controller... then you will has win, omg.
Doesn't this controller make the Wii into a pedestrian game console that's maybe a little better than a PS2? Wouldn't that defeat the "specialness" of the Wii?
nope.
