Just when you thought manufacturers couldn't possibly manage another refresh of 22-inch LCDs, Samsung shows up at IFA with
two of them. The 2233Hz (pictured) and the 2243Hz (after the break)
SyncMaster desktop LCDs share a screen size, 1680 x 1050 resolutions, 300 nits of brightness and 5ms typical response times. Both displays also feature Samsung's new Enhanced MPAII to drop Motion Picture Response time from 27ms to a mere 9ms, which should give ghosting-phobics some relief. Sadly, there's no mention of DisplayLink, but of course there are DVI plugs with HDCP. The only differences we can find between the displays is four USB plugs (instead of two) on the 2243Hz, plus MagicRotation for pivoting the display. No word on when these will be available or for how much.

Wow, Samsung gave these displays such misleading model numbers. Would Linksys be allowed to release a router with the model number WRT10Tbps ?

exactly what got me to read the article, to find out where the bullshit was.
LCD's are only just beginning to get to 120/240hz,and that is only useful if you hook it up to a computer as the film industry and television still only work @ a measly 24fps.
you can have a tv with any refresh you want, if the input source is 24fps then that's all you get, this is why tv makers try to "interpolate" the frames because the have the tech to display more and are waiting for the contentcreation industry to catch up and increase the video capture fps.
so until that happens, these kind of tv's will only benefit from things that are interactive, where response time is important. hence the computer connection angle.

it Hz so much.

MagicRotation?
What's so magical about rotating?
Manufacturers these days...

MagicRotation is the next step in the evolution of Swivel Technology.

Are you supposed to take the inverse of the Response Time to get the frequency?
In which case, 9ms = 1/x, x = ~111 Hz ?
Laughing Man @ Aug 29th 2008 5:22PM
No no no, you got it all wrong. They mean that you can rotation these using your magical powers. You know the magical powers that we all have. I don't know why that is new. I have been turning things for years with magic.

Damn I'm quite disappointed. I thought 'desktop LCDs' would mean LCD with a computer inside it! But it does have 4 USB ports on it so we're getting there...(not)

what do these numbers in model name mean? ok, 22xx in 2243, 2233, 2263 means 22", but what about xx43, xx33, xx63? earlier I thought that this is the series number (newer better matrix), so the xx63 would be the newest. but no, samsung introduces new 2233 and 2243 monitors.

5ms?! YAWN! God, why can't they just make a 1ms and get it over with already. Still huggin my vx922
Justin @ Aug 29th 2008 1:44PM
How many 22" monitor can Samsung make? Will they ever run out of names?
Oh yeah, any word on whose panels will be in these? They almost certainly won't be Samsung's own panels. Mre like AU Optronics or CMO. My Samsung 2232BW+ with an AU Optronics panel looks great if you don't care about washed out colors, horrible backlight bleed and motion blur that actually gets worse when you turn on the Samsung RTA overdrive feature that's suppose to make the screen respond faster. Color banding too. It's great...
Until Samsung can prove to me it's using it's own panels I'm done with them. LG here I come!
tekdemon @ Aug 29th 2008 6:29PM
Did they really name it with a capital H and a small z? Because that's just a terrible, terrible decision if they did.
What's next, are they going to release a laptop model called the 5000Mhz?
nkear5 @ Oct 3rd 2008 2:52AM
I own one the 2233BW and it is easily the best monitor on the market. Don't quote me on this, but I believe it uses a genuine Samsung panel. The colours are extremely vivid and there is no ghosting. There is very minor backlight bleed when the screen is completely black; however, this does not bother me entirely. Compared to many other models, the backlight bleed is only a fraction of what the others display.
However, back to the panel type. The model number is CM22WS. Could CM mean Chimei? On that subject, the model numbers of others are CX, BR, GH, etc. So it could just be a naming convention.
Regardless of what panel type it is, it is extremely bright and vivid and extremely good value for money. I recommend it to anyone looking for a 22" monitor.

Hey nkear5, how this 2233 is compared to T220?
