We're still pondering the difference between Toshiba's
Cell-based Resolution+ technology and its "good enough for everybody else"
XDE tech, but we got a look at Resolution+ today -- featured in Toshiba's new ZF575 Regza TVs -- and it seems to work well enough. Unlike XDE, which is designed with DVDs in mind to mess with contrast and colors, in addition to sharpness, Resolution+ just focuses on sharpness, for a multitude of SD inputs, and seems to do a decent job of it. Comparison shots up ahead, don't poke your eye on any jaggies!

The only difference I see in those TV sets is "ON" and OFF"

Same here . . . . .

Check the brown carpet on picture 4. The right side is much clearer and sharper.

Finally, I can view brown carpet-related programming the way god intended.

@khattab
Perhaps it's my screen or my eyes, but I don't see any significant difference whatsoever between the two.
CAHLITO @ Aug 29th 2008 2:21PM
What's the difference?
Khattab @ Aug 29th 2008 2:25PM
Have a look @ picture 4. The difference in visual quality is obvious. The right side is much sharper and clearer.

I just picked up an 52XV540U.. this is Toshiba's Regza 120hz. My main use is with the computer, including working, watching media and browsing.
Of course, this product line announcement makes my set instantly "obsolete" .. but I still have 30 days exchange. Anyone know if there is anything amazing coming out this fall for new sets, especially with regard to hooking up to a computer?
Anyone know if it would be possible to use a 120hz connection over HDMI from a video card to the set?
I've been researching these issues, but all I can say is there is a lot of confusion.

If you look at the original press release they are only releasing 40" and 46" versions in this line. So your still better off with the 52".
JerkfacedFed @ Aug 29th 2008 2:25PM
yea u couldhave taken pictures from a little closer than 100 feet at the image quality, which is what theyre advertising...not the hdmi ports.

SO will this TV take my crappy Cox digital cable feed with garbage colors, tons of compression artifacts and posterization, and turn it into near HD quality or at least DVD qulaity.
I'm thinking no.
You can only do so much with a low resolution signal. I'd love it if you could take a crap image and turn it into something usefull. I'd use it everday iwth my designs. I could use the garbage photos I get and turn them into print ready posters. Problem is that it never works.

Crap in = Crap out
phanbouy @ Aug 29th 2008 3:58PM
ah yes, the old crap mass balance equations
phanbouy @ Aug 29th 2008 4:00PM
btw, does this assume that steady state crap biodegradation conditions have occurred?

With a built in Cell BBE, I am wondering if they will do a Folding at Home Client for this TV that would start running the moment your turned your TV off?
