TrekStor has this interesting piece of kit on display at IFA, the Wireless SoundBox. It all starts with a USB stick attached to the computer. From there, your music is streamed wirelessly at a distance up to 25-meters to up to 20 of the boxy, 2.4GHz speakers. The 4x battery (AA, presumably) speakers feature a nice to touch, "softtouch" coating, individual volume controls, and line-in for connecting audio sources directly. The sound quality was about on par with what we'd expect from such a tiny speaker but the range was quite good considing the level of public 2.4GHz noise on the IFA show floor. €50 (about $74) takes home the stereo starter set (USB stick and 2x speakers) with each additional speaker costing €30 (about $44) starting in October. See our attempt to run away with 'em after the break.
Hah! I get better audio output form my MacBook Pro :) OS X FTW
But can your Macbook Pro speakers detach and still sound off when placed across the room? I don't think so. >_>
Hah! I get better audio output form my MacBook Pro :) Vista FTW
Hah! I get better audio output form my MacBook Pro :) Linux FTW
Now all fanboy OS are accounted for...
So if you're planning on getting 4 speakers... buy 2 kits, it'll save you $$ vs. buying additional speakers!
You realsie that sound quality in laptops is dictated a - by the hardware, b - by the speakers. Operating system have nothing to do with it.
Hah! I get better audio output form my MacBook Pro :) OS/2 Warp FTW
No...NOW all fanboy OS are accounted for...
No, Juxtah, you couldn't be more wrong.
Hah! I get better audio output form my MacBook Pro :) DOS FTW
No...Not all fanboy OS are accounted for...
They look pretty good in concept. And the range is decent too.
You should have ran with them while you could!
... does it have a headphone jack?
He's just a commenter here, how the hell should he know??
Jason! that was amazing.
i guess it's just another reason to get a network usb hub.
these look awesome and would be great in my dorm + room at home.
Why would I ever buy additional speakers when I could just buy the starter set instead of spending $14 extra for two more individual speakers? Unless I need an odd number of speakers.
...maybe because you want to have them playing from the same computer?
I don't recall it saying they're interchangeable between systems, but I could be wrong.
Good hint on the center speaker.
If your wireless router works on 2.4 GHz, then wouldn't this interfere with that and cause disruptions to your internet or not work properly or something?
my wireless router doesn't interfere with my telephones. Neither do the other 8 routers in my complex.
I wonder what the battery life on these things are, the price seems fair to me, but if I had 4 of these little things, each taking 4 AA batteries (possibly), I wouldn't want to replace them every two weeks. 16 AA batteries every two weeks, that'd hit the wallet hard.
You know there are rechargeable batteries, do you? And they are more eco-friendly and standard ones.
