DayWalker case mod is amazing, can't solve Wesley Snipes' tax evasion problems
There was no shortage of case mods at NVIDIA's NVISION conference, but this one in particular managed to snag the majority of the spotlight. Created by Richard "DarthBeavis" Surroz, the Blade-themed DayWalker actually houses three separate computer systems; two are for playing games, while the other acts as a server. Conceptually, at least, the rig is designed to enable two users to play against one another, and given the "50+ fans" and triple SLI GTX 280 GPU setups (among other things), it's no shock to hear that it'd cost around $18,000 to $20,000 to build again. 'Course, that's chump change when you're stuffing away millions of dollars owed to the government -- just ask Snipes... oh, wait.

Jeez. That's terrible.
Serial 8-Ball Mouse @ Aug 30th 2008 1:30PM
Yeah... what the hell am I even looking at? Is that a screen in that smudgy box on the left? This is the most awful case mod I have ever seen.
Will H. @ Aug 30th 2008 1:56PM
$20,000 buys a hell of a lot of UV LED fans, that's for damn sure. If you stand too close to this monstrosity, you're bound to get skin cancer from all the funking UV it's putting off.
OneLove @ Aug 30th 2008 4:17PM
no comment. ?
Blackstar @ Aug 30th 2008 5:36PM
Yup, I would very much agree. I'm all for cool mods and artistic designs, but this looks like they grabbed every part they could and dumped them into boxes shaped into a cross. Ooooook. O.o
Sometimes, less is more guys.
Brad @ Aug 30th 2008 6:05PM
This is the worst use of money since I tricked out my Big Wheel.
Seriously though, the guy calls himself "DarthBevis" - clearly he's not the most creative person in the world. But he sure can burn through his parent's money!
gabe @ Aug 30th 2008 6:07PM
very ugly indeed - confusing to look at - i bet his mom makes him keep it in the basement so the guests dont see
Phoenix @ Aug 30th 2008 11:13PM
I'm really not impressed. If they had replaced the case fans with a liquid cooling system, they would save quite a bit. Besides, combining two systems into one with a third as a server is... well... stupid. I'm sure that it seems cool to a 13 year old kid with mild brain damage. >_> All told, another bomb brought out by engadget.
Muhammed @ Aug 30th 2008 1:48PM
wtf?
Will H. @ Aug 30th 2008 1:52PM
Classic Engadget, kicking the poor man while he's down. You better watch out though, cause he's half vampire and he WILL chop you up into tiny bits.
rjupiter @ Aug 30th 2008 2:00PM
I admire the tech in it but boy that thing is garish, no worse fugly!
HyperHacker @ Aug 31st 2008 2:02AM
My thoughts exactly. "Wow, that's quite the sophisticated mod... ugly as heck though."
slibus @ Aug 30th 2008 2:19PM
I bet the guy who built that thing has chicks hanging off of him like a jungle gym.
ajfarson @ Aug 30th 2008 2:25PM
Nice! A little busy though... but I bet it looks way better in person.
toasty7 @ Aug 30th 2008 2:26PM
It's supposed to be a cross? This was the most impressive mod at NVISION? You've got to be kidding.
Richard @ Aug 30th 2008 2:45PM
What does the case have to do with Blade other than the name?
MarcBot @ Aug 30th 2008 2:45PM
Why even bother on upgrading hardware for your rig? pc gaming is dieing. just face it,consoles are winning. look at ea sports, there not even bringing madden 09 out to pc.!! just get a console.
Zorque @ Aug 30th 2008 3:20PM
Why would I care about Madden on PC, that wouldn't benefit from a mouse/keyboard at all.
Harry Wagstaff @ Aug 30th 2008 7:05PM
They aren't releasing sports games for PC because the clearly straight cross-compiled 360 ports run like utter bollocks on a PC and it costs more to make it look like they've done some beta testing than they'll get from PC sales (due to reputation of sports games being cross-compiled 360 ports and running like utter bollocks on a PC).
hippykidz @ Aug 30th 2008 2:46PM
Okay so an impressive build no doubt. But the words hideous or monstrosity do not come even close!! With the exception of that skull the whole thing is just well...a hideous monstrosity.
BuddyBoy @ Aug 30th 2008 2:55PM
I don't get it, a Ton of LEDs and a cheap plastic sword makes it a blade case mod?
mcatrage @ Aug 30th 2008 2:57PM
Yeah but we don't want to talk to you.
rita hainsworth @ Aug 30th 2008 3:07PM

I vomit whenever I see your comments.
Erik @ Aug 30th 2008 3:08PM
No, but you can have low rank.
Off topic: What happened to the lowest ranked?
Vince @ Aug 30th 2008 4:01PM
Actually the government just thinks he owes them money. I guess with over a trillion words in the tax code it's almost impossible to figure out, but if you'll pay attention to the wording, only corporations are required to pay income taxes.
I guess someone should tell the IRS. Oh wait, they have. They're rotting in prison. So much for a Republic. Thanks anyway, Ben Franklin.
tridge @ Aug 30th 2008 4:20PM
I love it, and I've been following DarthBevis' build on some forums. He's a good modder and you wouldn't believe the hard work that goes into his mods.
Paul @ Aug 30th 2008 4:34PM
@MarcBot -
I could not disagree with you more. Consoles are becoming more and more like PCs. Online gaming, web browsing, playing digital media. Heck, you can even hook up a keyboard and mouse. All of these things show a trend of consoles becoming more and more like PCs. I would say 10 years from now the console as we know it will not be distinguishable from a PC.
The Wii, of course, offers true innovation over pure power, which is one reason why it has sold more units than the PS3 or Xbox 360.
Mile @ Aug 30th 2008 5:06PM
It's stupid and overpriced. Does it have a sticker of an apple on it somewhere?
Yeah, I went there.

LC @ Aug 30th 2008 8:49PM
Wow, idiots. Nearly all the money and parts were provided by sponsors. Clearly stated in the article.
DarthBeavis @ Aug 30th 2008 9:01PM
That is one of my builds and it is in progress in that pic . . .I started putting it all together about 4 days before Nvision . . .
Some better pix here as well as pics of my mannequin mod:
http://news.gotgame.com/live-from-nvision-08-the-art-of-case-modding/
There were WAY better mods there I will admit . . .an amazing level of skill the on display.
Reece @ Aug 30th 2008 7:32PM
I fail to see what more you could possibly add to this
DarthBeavis @ Aug 30th 2008 10:54PM
lol . . .true Reece! No, I mean I have lots of work to clean it up, need to make different monitor mounts, need to replace one of the mobos as it died, need to install the OS in the server, etc.
Like I said I only had a few days to get this together. Then I had to pack it into a Uhaul trailer and tow about 10 hours to Nvision along with Autopsy, my Mannequin build.
I finished two other projects in July you guys might want to check out:

Well, the Globe I am finishing as well (a sponsor wants it at CES so I have a bit of time). Cherry X might make it to Blizzcon if things fall into place.
Wormbolt @ Aug 30th 2008 9:27PM
Dude, you need to stay out of Hot Topic.
DarthBeavis @ Aug 30th 2008 11:19PM
LOL @ Wormbolt . . .great eye . . .being an old fart I thought the shirt rather funny ;)
@Cyber . . .thanks bro! We both know no one posting here who is critical has any mods to show for themselves but that is ok . . .my stuff usually evokes a strong response either for or against . .my list of sponsors speaks for itself . . and this build caused companies to ask me to build for them (for pay of course) . . .being a pro-modder you understand what this means and how hard this is to come by . . .
CyberDruid @ Aug 30th 2008 9:57PM
Wow...I shoulda brought a Sham-Wow to soak up all this haterade...they could use it over at 4Chan. What a bunch of lamers. DarthBeavis is a hardworking casemodder. He's sponsored. He gets the new stuff to play with and his work pimps out the gear. I wish I could have made it this year...that mod is gigantic. Maybe not everyone's "Dream PC" but as far as making a splash and drawing attention I can't see how you would miss it. Richard don't take any guff from those swine. ;)
Zorque @ Sep 1st 2008 12:26AM
You know, Hitler worked pretty hard on the Holocaust. Just because something takes a lot of work doesn't make it worth doing.

Think he's dumb because he calls himself "DarthBevis", well that "guy" has been more succesful and renowned at Case Mods than you will EVER be, why don't you look at all his work and sponsorships he gets ? Jealously , just because this case is odd, you denounce him. Get a life.
Hellaphunt @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:25PM

wow i am impressed looks aside the ability for two people to sit together and game at the same computer (or three) is impressive as hell wish i could do something like that but 20 grand is far too much for a simpleton like myself i am currently trying to figure out how to mod my computer with a grateful dead theme but fear the price is too high damn economy hehehehe
nothing but appreciation and respect darth beavis
