CTL releasing Atom-powered 2go nettop for $149
CTL, the same cats who brought us the 2go PC laptop, are apparently working up an equally cheap and not-exactly-flashy nettop PC. The 2go PC Nettop will reportedly range in price from $149 to $299 depending on specifications, and the baseline model will feature Intel's DG945GCLF motherboard, Intel's Atom 230 processor, 1GB of Kingston DDR2 RAM, a GMA 950 graphics accelerator, support for one HDD and one optical drive, six USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet jack. The Essential Plus Edition ($199) adds in Ubuntu and an 80GB 7,200RPM hard drive (while slashing RAM to 512MB); the $299 Essential Performance Edition comes with Windows XP Home, a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of memory. There's no word just yet on when the 4.5-pound boxes will be released, but we'd expect 'em to surface pretty quietly.[Thanks, Nate]

This post, by me, however, is indeed an endorsement of Newegg. I love them and use them all the time and have for years.
I'm not the only one either.
Can I upgrade it to a quad-core for a couple of bucks more?
go spam some other forums whs
@ d00b: The parts ARE cheaper, but you forgot to factor in shipping. That's $24 extra, plus you need to get a 1GB stick of RAM, too. That will go around $15-$20 or more, depending on shipping. I'm thinking it's a little easier and less laborious (hey, it's Labor Day weekend!) to buy it assembled. Not much work, I'd think, but it'd be nice to have everything in one piece when I get it. This is a really good buy here.
Well, the main reason why anyone would go the DYI route nowaday isn't so much for saving a few nickels, as much as getting the exact parts you want. The Intel mobo is a given, since there is only one SKU right now for an Atom part, but you can get more compact & power efficient mini-ITX cases. As far as work assembling the mobo into the case, I can't imagine turning a screwdriver to be that arduous or complicated. We are geekheads, after all.
I'm really hoping that the mini-ITX platform will follow the netbook trend and get into the mainstream, so there'll be more choices for cases and motherboards. Right now the pickings are pretty slim. We're still stuck either with the anemic VIA processors, or the Atom with crappy 7-yr old Intel chipsets (hey looka dat kewl parallel port!!)
No we aren't, check out Logic Supply. There are a good number of mobile Core2 motherboards available, some Geode offerings, a plethora of highly engineered cases (also look up the Nexus Psile), and a very nice looking Intel G45 board that accepts desktop Core 2 Duo's (but not quad) coming into availability.
I'd still rather DTX got popular, 2 slots would be very nice.
PERFECT!
I'm in for two of the $199 models.
How the fuck did the subject of iPhone get into this thread? Every goddamn Engadget article becomes an Apple orgy. Seriously.
I still prefer a Drunktop....http://blog.laptopmag.com/drunktop-compute-safely
I've built one of these type systems for emulation and media streaming to my tv. Oh, the Intel Atom is a Hyperthreaded CPU by the way, and with the new Atom 330, it shows 4 cores in the System/Task Manager. Unreal Tournament 3 on mine for those who want to test one out. Mine only got a whopping 3DMark6 score of 257, but i wasn't expecting much from an 8watt cpu. But for general media and online, this is a spectacular board for the price.
