LG's 42- / 50-inch PG6900 plasma packs built-in 160GB hard drive
While we new LG had a pair of DVR-packin' plasmas lined up, nothing was officially official until now. The 42- and 50-inch PG6900 plasmas were designed to hold up to 86-hours of programming (SD, we assume) on its 160GB of internal hard drive space, and the 8-day EPG should give you a pretty decent view of what's coming on in the near future. Additionally, you'll find a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, Energy Star compliance, a DVB-T tuner (plus an analog tuner), three HDMI 1.3 ports, 100Hz refresh rate and integrated speakers which are said to be "invisible." Look for these to pop up soon (at least in Europe) for $1,799 and up.[Via Gizmag]

Sweet! I wonder if you could mod it to make it run a regular OS?

Darrent would appear to have a brain disorder. Scarecrow ran off with it.

Maybe because there are no widely used HD TV sources in the UK/Europe?
melo @ Sep 1st 2008 4:02AM
Why in the world would anyone care if an HDTV records ***number of hours in SD?
Nor is this note-worthy. LG released Harddrive packed LCDs 3-4years ago.
Slow news day?
Ian @ Sep 1st 2008 5:06AM
well maybe slow news night...

If it's like the DVR's built in the LCD TVs, then the 86 hrs recording time is for SD. It's about 12-14 hrs for HD recording.
It's pretty useless in Korea though. The only things they show in HD are celebrity reality shows (the current popular one is a "Newlyweds" knockoff) or over-the-top sappy dramas (Summary: 1- Rich guy meets poor girl. 2- They fall in love. 3- A third wheel or current/ex lover gets them to break up. 4- Crying ensues. 5- The couple reunites, and everyone is happy.) (Obviously this is a gross generalization. Sometimes it's a rich girl who meets a poor guy.)

Woah cool! All I can do is hope that Australia gets one of these soon. We are always left to last :(
Dopefish @ Sep 1st 2008 5:39AM
And also, $1799?
Last time I checked we dont use the dollar in Europe...
Rogers @ Sep 1st 2008 8:59AM
Yes, very cool. These kinds of products with these kinds of capabilities always seems to cause me to think and try to come up with ways to use them even more efficiently. With all that memory available that get's me thinking of an entire football season of video recordings....Wow!
Josh @ Sep 1st 2008 10:38AM
You couldn't record a whole football season, that defeats the purpose of having an HD television, you could only get a couple of games in high def on there.

I dont no, I thought the article was pretty well written. Its knot like he over looked the basics of spelling. Know way he would have failed in English class at most high schools in the US today. His righting seems fine, concise, and write on topic.
