NEC debuts "premium" 22-inch EA221WM LCD monitor

Impressed by the NEC EA261WM's frog-displaying abilities but think it's about four inches too much for you? Then good news! NEC has now introduced the MultiSync EA221WM, which boasts many of the same "premium" features in a slightly more desk-friendly 22-inch size. That includes a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a 5 ms response time, a four port USB 2.0 hub, and NEC's trademark ECO Mode and carbon footprint meter, to name a few, although you will have to make do with a drop to 250 cd/m² brightness, and a 1680 x 1050 resolution instead of the full 1,920 x 1,200 on the 26-inch model. On the upside, the EA221WM's $390 price tag is a good deal more affordable than that of its larger counterpart, and you'll be able to get your hands on it sometime this month.

I don't see what's too remarkable about an overpriced 22" monitor with a poor contrast ratio and low brightness...
yeah but it displays the SHIT out of that frog...
Exactly, I was looking at an LG 22in Monitor this morning, priced around $260 (others were around $240)
The Samsung 226BW my friends and I use is 22", 3000:1 Contrast Ratio, 2MS response time, 1680x1050 and as of many months ago $300, whereas this one is 1000:1 and 3MS slower, and costs $90 more.
@ DarCowAlways
If you think there is actually a 3 ms difference I suggest you do some research first.
ok ill make it easy. 2 ms is grey to grey. 5 ms is black to black. completely different benchmarks
Tell us what's important: is it a P-MVA panel, or a TN panel?
Agreed, this sounds like a blurb straight from the Manufacturer's site. Can you guys tell us the info we'd actually care about?

It's probably just a TN..
yea .. it's probably TN with garbage viewing angles.
It's not probably, it is a TN panel: http://www.nec-displays.com/c/download/372430/OverviewMonitors2008-english.pdf
engadget, for the love of baby jeebus POST THE LCD TYPE! i know you like to copy and paste press releases with a couple sentences of pseudo-snark, but how many shitty monitors are getting too much face time here? right!
is this a joke?

I rarely, if ever, have seen 22 inch lcds with a resolution higher than 1680 by 1050, anyone know why that is?
just doesn't make sense to me either.
.... there are 1,920 x 1,200 15.4in laptop screens out there.
Looks like a TN panel just like PiZ mentions(beat me to it)
I honestly cant understand the price.
I have a Samsung 226BW @ home with a damn near 15 degree vertical viewing angle before a color gamma skew is noticed.
At work, i just got an asus VW223T for work, sadly it has horrible dynamic backlight control that i leave disabled, but has a respectable 30 degree vertical viewing range. not bad for $180 after the MIR+free shipping.
223T -discontinued-

sadly, they dont stock it anymore, the closest is the 222U

dude i have that monitor. i got it a few weeks ago. why did they discontinue it? i thought it was a new item.
This thing is another TN panel, which means i've completely lost interest in it. I recently hooked up my old 19" TN Panel Samsung LCD monitor alongside my 24" LG P-MVA panel (i need it for creating a website, sizing of elements such as text and buttons look different on a large monitor with different pixel pitch).
Yes, im rocking dual monitors, but the TN display looks like complete SHIT compared to my P-MVA. Looking at it at any odd angle, or even moving your head slightly shows a dramatic change of colour. Not only does the display turn almost completely black from viewing it from below, but from top the colours invert, it gets significantly worse though: the range of colours is total bollocks, it has more of a slightly blue hue and the is too dark for any kind of work, professional or simply recreational. I dont see how anyone could get excited, or even want to blog about, another useless TN panel LCD monitor. For the price their asking, its a total ripoff. You can get a similarly specced TN panel at the same size for much less. When you consider i paid $350 for my LG L246WP-BN, this NEC is ridiculous.
Long live high-end CRT's!
Seriously now, I have a question (for self education as I am looking for a monitor to buy (I want bigger work space).
My question is how does the P-MVA act in watching movies, playing games? are their any ghosting? Would a TN panel be preferred for such task?
Basically my budget is 700$ Canadian, and I am looking for a 22inch screen. Any suggestions, or what should I look for?
Thank you in advance for your time (to everyone that replies).
I know LCD in general are not as good as a CRT, and although nothing professional, I really do enjoy high color accuracy, and precision as I am in front of it for long period of time. And for the love of god, I don't get the obsession of the super reflective, mirror-like, glass and frame that some companies do. It's like they know that the screen is shit, and they try to do everything they can't so that you don't see the image on the screen. Ok so now I am getting off topic now...
I have a NEC 17inch CRT monitor purchased in early 2004.
I must say I am REALLY impressed by NEC. Plastic did not get yellow, the style is preatty nice compared to other CRT back then (well they don't make them anymore, but I think if they still did with this kinda style, it would still bee nice)). The screen outputs a very sharp screen, excellent colors and with 85Hz, it's like looking at an LCD screen. And I never touch the display color, tilt, and other image adjustment settings (well only the usual width, height, position for the first time you use a certain screen resolution, but once set it's all good). It's max resolution is 2560x1600 at 60Hz (so flickering at that rate). I am really impressed.
Sadly, NEC LCD doesn't seam (based on reviews) to catchup this trend. Sure they are few models here and there that they release that is actually good, but overpriced. I am actually surprised that after all these years NEC has a hard time.
NEC to monitors is what Sony is to HDTV's. Even if they are a bit pricey and the specs seem ho hum on paper, they have some magic that most other companies lack. I am currently using an hp2207 which many people claim to be the best 22 incher out there. Compared to my old 19 inch nec lcd this monitor leaves me uninspired. So please don't write this monitor off. At least wait for the reviews I'd be surprised if the IQ wasn't jaw dropping. You can at least admit this monitor is aesthetically beautiful. As for those that are whining about the viewing angle, its 22 inches and it sits right in front of you, sheesh.
O_O............ THat's the mexican staring from of southern sri lanka!
