Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset gets official
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan just got official with its PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset (model CEJH-15002) we've seen bouncing around since June. Set for a ¥5,000 (about $46 tax inclusive) release on October 30th in Japan along side SOCOM:CONFRONTATION, the Bluetooth 2.1+EDR headset with noise cancellation will automatically pair with your PS3, making it ready for games supporting on-line chat like SOCOM and Resistance 2 coming November 13th. The bundled USB cradle will charge the headset for up to 8-hours of voice. As a bonus, when used with the PS3 you'll be treated to on-screen indicators showing your connection status, battery charge and speaker levels and microphone mute status all at the push of a button. And for those of you wondering, yes, it should pair just fine with your cellphone since it supports both the HSP and HFP Bluetooth profiles.

It's ok I guess, I'm sure Sony will sell a lot of these.
It'll be funny seeing people walking down the street with a Sony PS3 BT Headset though.

Ya I know what you mean, they would be like those people with bluetooth ear piece... hahahaha.....no wait...
how is that funny, again?

Hopefully Skype will be released for the PS3....
PS3 BT Headset + PS3 Eye + Skype = Video Conferencing in your living room

You know that the PS3 eye has a built in microphone (pretty Decent too) ... thats why im not interested with it
Nietzche @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:24AM
now if only the PS3 would be supporting A2DP..
Erwos @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:26AM
Agreed. I have a perfectly good BT stereo headset w/ mic - the PS3 just can't seem to use the damn thing. In fact, it pisses me off that they advertise the PS3 as having BT 2.0, yet don't seem to support any BT 2.0 devices. Grr.
Still, I'm going to wind up buying this, because the "act as field microphone" capability is going to be super handy - plus it has a dock.

Aren't they selling a bundle with the headset and SOCOM together? I think I read that somewhere, and that's an economically sound decision for people who want SOCOM anyway.

in the same tone as lunch lady doris, "yes, yes they do"

Sony always has these cool quirky gadgets for their PS3, but its so rare that they sell well. Though their PS3 isn't doing so well either.

Am getting one (along with the new Socom) when they debut in the U.S.
Das Boot @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:11AM
I think imma get this with the Socom Confrontation game package as I think it will be 60 for both the game and the headset instead of seperate. I am a savvy shopper, although im not sure how to explain the 5000 dollar credit card debt.

It says a release of Oct. 30th??? SOCOM Confrontation comes out on the 14th along with the bundled version. So maybe the Oct. 30th date is for the headset separately which I believe retails for $49.99

If you ask me, I should be able to use my own BT headset with the PS3.
Now if only I had a PS3.
Alex @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:11PM
You can use your own BT headset with the PS3. However, this one offers extended battery life and on-screen indicators specifically for the PS3.

I have Sony BT 50 headphones, when will the ps3 finally support stereo bluetooth ?
It drives me nuts that this something as lotech as stereo sound is not supported by my apparently hitech ps3.
can they do it in a software update or is the hardware not up to it ?

I want TWO!!!! one in my ear and one for my other ear.
