Sony busts out VAIO JS, LV and RT all-in-one desktops, includes Blu-ray
We were already warned that Sony was gearing up to push the Blu-ray / HD recording abilities of its VAIO machines, and here's all the proof you need that it plans on keeping its word. Here at CEDIA, the outfit has unveiled a trio of new all-in-one desktop PCs -- not quite ready for an HTPC label, but definitely catering to the hordes of high-def junkies out there. The VAIO JS, LV and RT desktop models all boast at least an optional integrated BD optical drive, and surprisingly, each model is incredibly distinct. For instance, the budget-minded JS boasts a 20.1-inch XBRITE-ECO LCD alongside an integrated webcam and microphone for $1,000, while the LV includes a 24-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) screen, optional BD writer and built-in DVR functionality with up to 1TB of storage; furthermore, it offers an HDMI input for connecting your set-top-box or PS3. The $3,300 (and up) RT comes with a 25.5-inch Full HD LCD aimed at video editors, and there's also integrated digital TV tuners, HDMI in / out, up to 8GB of RAM and one of Intel's Core 2 Quad CPUs. The trifecta should arrive in mid-October for those interested, and there's one more luscious angle after the break.

if the LCD in this all in one computer is a TN panel, then the bluray feature is severely crippled and the thousands of dollars one would spend on this thing would be wasted. who the hell would want to watch bluray movies with washed out colours?
I doubt youre even using a 64bit OS.
Whoo boy that is stunning. That mouse looks a little dated though..
if you ask me all of it looks dated
the more overpriced all-in-one garbage i see from Sony et al, the more i want to use custom built, open source powered stuff
Get a life. All-in-One = fail? Let me guess - the Mac Mini is the ish?
The price is pretty high, sure, but the 25.5" model is slick, good looking and powerful. I'd buy it if I had the money and the desire to have stylish equipment around my house.
actually it does = fail, literally. one thing dies, the whole enchilada's a lemon. but thanks for sharing what you'd do if rich, very useful info.
Actually, Khattab, he said, open-source, custom built. I'm pretty sure the Mac Mini is the complete opposite of that category.
@phanbouy:
Ok, so Sony has no support? Yep, you're right, if something fails you have to throw away the whole damn thing.
@backlin: Open-Source? Which of the major PC manufacturer uses Open Source SW/OSs for their mainstream systems (except Dell in a few ones). Which of the open-source eqiupped PCs/Laptops are a major success? Get it?
I'm a student in Computer Science and for sure support the Open Source movement, but the conclusion "Windows = fail" is so so wrong (as often discssed here).
ha! seriously, fanboys? trying to disallow dissenting opinions and time and again only allowing fawning mawkish praise on overpriced trinkets
how long you think their warranty is? 3 years at best? maybe even only one year like a lot of their stuff? aren't they known for having some of the worst tech support in the business?
or, ooh ooh! i know! maybe, i dont know, you're someone who likes upgrading, or troubleshooting, or actually having some input into what goes in it or how it's configured?
nah.... you don't agree so start a flame war. right.
Someone who has enough dough to buy a 3300+ pc doesn't have a couple hundreds to buy extended warranty is dumb as brick.
"fawning mawkish praise"
lol phanbouy you have the most best words! i love it when you are smarter than everyone!
i feel better reading about Sony products than Apple's for some reason ^^. btw, strange that there are 7 separate Sony articles on this page. is it officially Sony press release day?
Yeah it looks great but Phanbouy has a point. Should a regular moniter die, all you have to do is replace it. But should that things's display go awry.. Good luck.
Tell the same thing to every imac owner since 1998. Just curious, how many LCD monitors have failed on you in last year?
I welcome these computers, quite like Sony displays and about time they get into the prosumer editing stuff.
but what if the computer goes dead? more common than displays going dead
Your username is very befitting to your comments.
And I would like the $3,300 version the most. It could be a bedroom TV/Computer hybrid.
Holy schnikes!
Me want!
"1,920 x 1,200"
Would you like letterbox with that Blu-ray, sir?
On the other hand, good for video editing.
Wow! This actually looks really nice! Almost, if not better, then Dells XPS One. If only it was cheaper....but you definitely get what you pay for.
Did they not say how much the 24" LV is going to be or am I missing something?
@ Nick
the LV starts at $1,699 with a DVD+-RW drive and $1,899 with a Blu-ray Disc read only drive.
@xavier
"The VAIO LV High-Definition PC/TV will start at around $1,600 while the VAIO RT High-Definition Studio PC will go for about $3,300. "
Thats taken from the press release, just wondering where the $ 1699 came from?
so.... we can install XBMC on it right.
lolol.. you guys crack me up.. haha!
Just buy a laptop! (and a 30'' monitor for your room)
