If you've been wondering what former editor-in-chief (but current editor-at-large) Ryan Block has been up to since he left the site, wonder no more! He and Engadget founder Peter Rojas have just soft-launched their latest foray into the world of gadgets, fittingly (and simply) named... gdgt. Right now they're just getting off the ground, but they've got a new podcast up, and we expect some great content to follow. It should be noted that Peter and Ryan have reached out to various voices in the tech community (yours truly included, along with Gizmodo editor Brian Lam) to advise and input on the new property, which should provide for spirited mashups about all the technology you know (or don't know yet) and love. Hit the read link to check it all out!

Artie Lange @ Sep 4th 2008 1:35PM
No. Clearly that is former Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown.
Alex @ Sep 4th 2008 2:29PM
I thought it was those dudes from WHAM only in black
andym @ Sep 4th 2008 1:15PM
So they left Engadget to start the same thing but with half the letters? I'm interested in how it will be different, specifically how it will be better.
Mile @ Sep 4th 2008 1:24PM
It will take less time to read because there will b n vwls.
DBrim @ Sep 4th 2008 1:19PM
I'd like to buy a vowel, Pat.
TokenFag @ Sep 4th 2008 1:51PM
I sense a vowel movement
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 3:17PM
@Token you might need some vepto vismol for vhat.
WarMouse @ Sep 4th 2008 1:24PM
Apparently, they pronounce it "jee-dee-jee-tee" (from the gdgt site).
But I think most of us are in the same boat, wondering what will exactly set gdgt apart from other gadget sites. Right now, it seems very malleable and eager to listen to any feedback, which one would hope will lead to a tech site that people will enjoy.
This means post negatively about M$, never post about Apple, avoid redundant posts, maintain journalistic integrity and never have any tyops, be the first blog to post about the topic or it will be OLD NEWS, avoid redundant posts, make sure you cover what every other blog covers, don't hold a grudge against Microsoft, and keep up to date on all the Apple stories.
Good luck!
Libb @ Sep 4th 2008 1:31PM
I'm going to affectionately call it "gidget", since that's what gdgt should phonetically say :)
I don't really care if it just has the same stuff as Engadget or Gizmodo, Ryan and Pete have always been entertaining and informative about the world of technology, both as reporters on the news and commentators on its status, and I will follow them to the ends of the Earth.
Best of luck Ryan and Pete.
Mr. E @ Sep 4th 2008 1:31PM
The site sounds similar to Engadget. Let's hope the new editor in chief does not hire any T-mobile lawyers; I'd still steer clear of magenta just to be safe.
bob e @ Sep 4th 2008 1:32PM
Hopefully not another Apple fanboi site
John Cavanagh @ Sep 4th 2008 2:26PM
Ryan Block an Apple fanboy? Noooooooo....didn't you read his Zune review...he's completely unbias!
Rishard @ Sep 4th 2008 1:32PM
I'm confused. Did they LEAVE Engadget? I don't ever remember an announcement about it. If they did leave, then why? If they didn't leave then why aren't they doing the Engadget Podcast, but doing this other one?
Josh @ Sep 4th 2008 2:13PM
wow, where have you been? There was a HUGE post weeks ago about Ryan leaving engadget to start a new venture.
jupiterthunder @ Sep 4th 2008 6:04PM
not to mention the contest to give away his swag.
DT @ Sep 4th 2008 1:33PM
Good name; I liked that movie. The surfer chick with the ponytail was hot.
Allen @ Sep 4th 2008 1:35PM
Jst wht w nd, nthr gdgt blg.
Richard Lai @ Sep 4th 2008 1:36PM
Aww... They could make a gay couple in that pic.
lanejasper69 @ Sep 4th 2008 2:46PM
And YOU could be classified as a shitty driver too, based on your race! But I wouldn't go there because I'm not an asshole like you!
WINNER!
happy_penguin @ Sep 4th 2008 3:36PM
Wow. I think Richard's comment was in jest and without malice but the lanejasper comment is just uncalled for.
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 4:08PM
well i guess jasper's being ironic about that whole not being an asshole thing
Richard Lai @ Sep 4th 2008 5:38PM
Thanks happy_penguin. lamejasper obviously took my comment the wrong way and made a further unnecessary move. Someone needs to grow up.
igb @ Sep 4th 2008 1:37PM
Maybe they'll cover Google Chrome, won't they?
Fisher @ Sep 4th 2008 4:34PM
not unless you can get it on the iPhone
AlphaTeam @ Sep 4th 2008 1:39PM
I'm going to get spammed.
Moe @ Sep 4th 2008 1:40PM
So, the name.... were you influenced by Motorola's naming schemes and forgetting all about bowels?
jupiterthunder @ Sep 4th 2008 6:06PM
i'm gonna forget you just asked that.
Bowels?
Ryan Trevisol @ Sep 4th 2008 1:40PM
I'm sure my invitation email got stuck in my Spam folder.
Let me go check.
Artie Lange @ Sep 4th 2008 1:42PM
But will they discuss the Iphone?
SNP @ Sep 4th 2008 1:42PM
I just hope it won't end up like Moto with the 4 letter naming scheme....
lanejasper69 @ Sep 4th 2008 2:46PM
I hope not!! (I have one, but it's an old topic and I'm sick of reading all the non-constructive arguments). Please dear god, kill the comment system or moderate it so there isn't just another argumentative ego-filled bunch of people fighting over Mac VS PC etc. just state the facts, and let it be. Allow people take it for what it is and not be given the choice to start flamewars.
Kris @ Sep 4th 2008 1:42PM
@jakem, so it'll be exactly like Engadget?
StalematE @ Sep 4th 2008 1:44PM
will we have to "audition" to post? GHEIGH!
Tim Cuculic @ Sep 4th 2008 1:47PM
And of course you know that http://engdgt.com forwards to http://gdgt.com. Sneaky.
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 3:09PM
well i guess that's a joke because it doesn't
is my sarcasm-dar broken?
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Sep 4th 2008 1:48PM
they were fated to pretend...
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 3:10PM
+1 cool MGMT song
Tim Cuculic @ Sep 4th 2008 1:55PM
But I guess technically engadget disemvoweled would be ngdgt.
daManager @ Sep 4th 2008 1:59PM
Dear engadget editors,
Do you have a job (besides writing blogs)?
Thanks.
Dahk @ Sep 4th 2008 2:02PM
Eh, the email notification system is broken =/.
I don't think it accepts emails with dots in the name lol - says its not a valid email.
Ryan Block @ Sep 4th 2008 2:18PM
Fixing that, thanks for the heads up!
nxtiak @ Sep 4th 2008 2:31PM
That picture looks like an album cover. Like a trance/electronic duo cover.
Tejas Padekar @ Sep 4th 2008 2:38PM
OMG!
I'm shocked he didn't call it iGdgt!
tpadekar @ Sep 4th 2008 2:41PM
aah, then it'd have a vowel! hmm... sneaky!
Wes @ Sep 4th 2008 3:00PM
GDGT?
Was AAPL already taken?
phil @ Sep 4th 2008 3:09PM
the music on the podcast is sick
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 3:11PM
hey... all i wanna know is if the blog will star Bennifer. think about it for a sec.
happy_penguin @ Sep 4th 2008 3:38PM
HA! phanbouy strikes again! :D :D
lanejasper69 @ Sep 4th 2008 4:31PM
Engadget, I'm GONE FOR LIFE, this is just a bunch of whiny bitches here (mostly) and I'm not wasting anymore time on this crap. Giz is much better, more current, better comment system etc. I've been hears for a few years now, but it's just crap now, a place for everyone to poke names and bitch and try to wn some format/Os/gadget war that no one will ever win and it's just lame anymore. Yes, I have also stated an opinion or two, but only because someone else was being an asshole or did the same to someone that was being treated unfairly, so later.
phanbouy @ Sep 4th 2008 4:38PM
well you'll blend in better there
